About Philip Roberts
5th generation Copper Island resident. Long line of copper mining history in my family.
Philip Roberts purchased this House in 1932
Why Philip Roberts chose Calumet
Grandfather purchased the house, guest house and surrounding properties in 1932. Additional property and neighboring cottages were bought in early to mid 2000's. Only one other neighbor besides the 3 other rental cottages at separate addresses all private from one another. Beach is all private property for miles with no development.

This has to be the best place along the shore for a large family up here in he Keweenaw U.P.! Gorgeous large house and everything you could need. It’s now our family tradition!
Wonderful House, Memorable Stay
We split this house with another couple and the four of us loved it.
Things We Loved:
*View of Lake Superior from living area and patio
*Kitchen (had everything we needed and more)
*Nice bathrooms with everything you need including lots of towels
*Speaker that connects via Bluetooth or auxiliary-input
*Good place to walk the dogs
*Proximity to everything in the Keweenaw Peninsula
*Philip (we've stayed with him before and he is such a wonderful host)
We will definitely return!
Nicely appointed house, great location, and super responsive management
We had a group of 8 guys who came up on a snowmobile trip and to enjoy the Copper Dog. House worked out great even for a bigger group of this size. House has a lot of beds and 2 air mattresses for anyone that needs additional space. House is scenically situated right on the Big Lake so you get awesome views of Gitchee Gumee. There was a warm up right before we came so the route to the trails became compromised, but Philip was super responsive in helping direct us to an alternate solution. Overall this house worked out great for our needs....lots of trailer parking, well appointed, and comfortable. I can also see how this place would be absolutely stunning during other times of the year when the Lake is not frozen....it is perfectly situated for a summer or fall getaway.
Had a wonderful stay and Philip was very helpful and accommodating! We had trouble with the sauna and Phil came right over. It was convenient for visiting our son that goes to Mi Tech and our other son who snowboarded at Mt. Bohemia. Also our little dog loved it too. Making it a great weekend for everyone. The home was very cozy and plenty of clean towels. The fresh flowers were a beautiful touch! We will be back!!!
Perfect winter wonderland retreat!
Had another amazing weekend, in the UP - much thanks to Phillip and his North Shore Cottages! This 5 bedroom cottage was clean, comfortable and well stocked - couldn't have asked for better lodging for our 4 couples! We all relaxed and enjoy every moment - we definitely plan on coming back.
I can't say enough about Phillips hospitality and willingness to accommodate - thank you - hope to see you soon!
Great location, charming home, wonderful host
We were driving from a long distance away during the winter season and were not sure when we would be arriving. Phillip had the house warmed up for us and lights on to welcome us. The house was charming, and our family enjoyed a nice comfortable weekend together. The extra touches such as the welcome basket with water, cocoa, breakfast bars was wonderful. Definitely would stay here again.
Nestled in the wooded shore line of Keweenaw County, this stunning property on Lake Superior is a short 3 miles to historic Calumet. Calumet was once the epicenter of Copper Mining and one of the wealthiest cities in the state. Today it serves as a National Historic Park and a view into yesteryear. This house was built by C&H (Calumet & Hecla) Mining company over 100 years ago. Come relax on the large deck or sandy beach with a speckled shoreline of agates, thompsonite, as well as other Superior treasures. Explore the almost 4 miles of undeveloped beach surrounding the home and the near by nature preserve, Black Creek Nature Preserve. Great for bird watching, northern lights sightings, rock hounding, and well deserved rest & relaxation. Come see why our customers prefer our properties, and keep coming back. To ensure availability of desired dates, we recommend booking 6-9 months prior as we fill up fast.
