About Philip Roberts

Hello, My name is Philip Roberts. My Grandparents purchased this property in 1927 as a residence where they had a small farm and ran the C&H Mining Co. Waterworks.

Why Philip Roberts chose Calumet

The Roberts family has enjoyed this beach property for three generations. We completely gutted and remodeled the cottage in 2010-11 to share this special place with visitors from all corners of the world.

What makes this cottage unique

Running along side of the cottage is a small babbling trout stream that opens up to the lake on the beach. On the beach you can enjoy a camp fire under the stars or even catch the northern lights, swim the Great Lake Superior, hunt the perfect rock or agate, fish till the sun goes down, barbecue on the charcoal grill and picnic at the picnic table, or take a nature walk and enjoy the natural beauty of the beach and forest. In the winter, ski, snowmobile, or snow-shoe right out your front door.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We enjoyed our stay in our warm, cozy abode! We really enjoyed our time in one of our favorite places on the earth! Although this is only the second time here in the winter; the first had no snow! We liked this time much better. We usually come to the U.P. in the fall, with our 1st visit 20 yrs. ago when we hiked Isle Royal, and have enjoyed it almost every year since.

New Favorite Close to MTU

  • 5 of 5

Visiting our son at Tech. Loved being so close to Houghton while still being in the woods on Lake Superior with all the conveniences of home. The house was very clean and nicely furnished. Will be back for sure!

Chart House

  • 5 of 5

We have vacationed at North Shore Cottages, specifically the Chart House, for the last six years and will be returning for two more stays in 2018. The location is ideal as it feels secluded yet is only minutes from Calumet and central to a host of activities. The cottage itself is neat and clean and continues to be improved each time we visit. Allowing pets is another great point - hard to find in this area. Phil Roberts is a great host, lives onsite and is very responsive to his guests. You’ll have a great time staying here.
