In 1992, I moved from Long Beach, Ca. to Idyllwild where I purchased an Inn right in the heart of the village. After 12 years of being an innkeeper, I retired from this lifestyle and now work in hospitality part-time, along w/ managing two properties in town. I now can devote more time to hiking and exploring these beautiful mountains w/ my friends.
Marilyn purchased this House in 1992
Why Marilyn chose Idyllwild-Pine Cove
I am very proud to be associated with this property and am grateful to have the opportunity to manage the 'Old Oak Tree' cabin. I love the beauty and solitude of Idyllwild and this cabin represents both to me.
What makes this House unique
One can leave the world behind when entering the cozy ambiance of this property. This cabin lends itself to either just r & r time or used as a haven for hiking, shopping or a base for explorations.

Spacious, very comfortable, and delightfully close to town!
My whole family loved our stay in this lovely home. It's spacious, very well-furnished, very comfortable, and extremely close to town, and to some nice hiking at the park around the corner. Highly recommended!
We had a perfect family getaway from San Diego for President’s Day weekend. The cabin is exactly as pictured. There was a cozy warm welcome with music playing when we walked in. I loved the guest binders with local info and menus. The house was clean, tidy, and had everything we needed for the weekend. My kids said they felt like this cabin was a home away from home, and I felt the same way. The decor is really special, with lots of little touches here and there that give this place character and warmth. Marilyn was a great host, she even called to warn us about a possible snow storm. We did get a tiny bit of snow, which we all played with in the lovely backyard. I know many people have mentioned the backyard fence being nice for their dogs... I was happy to have the fenced in yard for my 3 and 7 year olds! Very close to downtown area and hiking, etc. We would love to stay here again! Thank you!
What kind and generous thoughts! I must also compliment you and your family
for being so respectful of the property. Just know that you're welcome back to
the "Old Oak Tree" cabin anytime.
A perfect getaway
We went to Marilyn’s cabin to celebrate my husband’s birthday. We brought our dogs along and his best friend from Tucson joined us for the weekend. We couldn’t have been more comfortable. The house was clean and welcoming. The kitchen was extremely well stocked and we enjoyed staying in at night to eat, watch a movie and play Scrabble. I found the little market to be surprisingly complete. During the days we loved being able to walk to town and explore the shops and restaurants. Our dogs especially enjoyed meeting the mayor. We also discovered how close we were to hiking trails and hiked to the Nature Center. The huge fenced yard was a dream come true for the dogs! We are hoping to return to Marilyn’s cabin soon.
It pleases me to know how much you enjoyed your visit to the cabin and Idyllwild.
And what a bonus it was for you that you got to meet our doggie Mayor, 'Max'.
He's our ambassador and we're very proud of the job he's doing.
Hopefully, you and your family will return soon to experience more of our
My wife and I found this home to be much more then we expected. This house is perfect for a weekend getaway and Idywilld is a great town. We had a comfortable stay and can't wait to return. Nice touches throughout home made this a great weekend for us. You cannot go wrong with this home!
It was perfect!
Everything was exactly as advertised.
The owner was great. Such attention to detail! She even had all the menu's for all the restaurants!
I would definitely stay there again!!
Thank you for your kind response and happy that you found the house to
your liking. Looking forward to hearing that you're interested in returning
to the "Old Oak Tree" cabin in Idyllwild.
Idyllwild is a gem of a mountain town - all the essentials you need, great outdoor activities, and then there’s the “Old Oak Tree” to make it a perfect getaway! It’s a cozy home in the trees and it just feels like home away from home. The huge yard is great for our fur child to run around, and it’s walking distance to the heart of town! We will continue to make this our regular Idyllwild getaway spot!!
Idyllwild is on the map as '100 best art gallery towns in the USA'. Our village is also known for the excellent variety of restaurants, from mellow fine dining to an assortment of casual cafes to satisfy every palate. A coffee house, wine bistro and 'health-full' cuisine are also good choices. For those into alternative health, we have massage therapists, acupuncture, pilates and a yoga studio. Within a short walk from the house is an obstacle course by Strawberry creek, adjacent to a kiddie playground. Up and coming events include: Memorial Day festivities; July 4th parade; Lemon Lily & Blue Grass Festival in mid July; Jazz Fest the last weekend in August; garage sales over Labor Day; and Wine Walk in Oct. For those movie buffs, there's a great theater in the middle of the village that shows 1st rate films and also rents videos.
