About Owner/Property Manager

As a lifelong resident of the Coast, I love the beach and the water. This is definitely home!

Owner/Property Manager purchased this cottage in 2010

Why Owner/Property Manager chose Mississippi

As the second-largest city in Mississippi, Gulfport offers the amenities of a city with the charm of a small town. I like that Gulfport is centrally located on the Coast, with plenty of great restaurants, shopping, entertainment, casinos, and a wonderful beachfront with some of the best scenery in the South. Beachview Vacation Cottages are a great addition to Gulfport.

What makes this cottage unique

This cottage is a wonderful way to share the Coast's natural beauty with our guests. Recent growth on the Coast has been geared more towards commercial, high-density development, and I wanted to provide something more quaint & cozy in a laid-back setting.

Close to the beach and centrally located in a quiet area, this cottage has it all: nearby restaurants, great shopping and entertainment, easy access to the interstate, and more!

Lovely Family Getaway

  • 5 of 5

We LOVED our stay in this little cluster of cottages. We also booked a cottage for the in-laws, and it made for an affordable and memorable vacation. The cottages are well-equipped with linens and kitchen items. We cooked all but two meals either in the cottage kitchen or in the picnic area on a grill (there were several grills, so multiple families can grill out at the same time). The big open grassy space was perfect for our little dog (make sure to scoop the poop!), and the front porch was a great little chill spot with plenty of space to sit and prop your feet up. The walk to the beach was very peaceful (though once you reach the end of the drive, you'll have to carefully cross the main road that parallels the beach). We brought our wagon, and it was great. The cottages are minutes away from a Walmart and a couple of other grocery stores, as well as lots of great restaurants. The owner was very nice and was very quick to respond to any questions or concerns that we had.

A few pointers: If you're expecting a washer and dryer, make sure that you confirm before you book that the cottage you're reserving has a set. Ours did not, but luckily our in-laws' did. Ship Island is a must-see if you're in Gulfport, so plan to take the Excursion to spend the day seeing Fort Massachusetts and swimming in the crystal clear water out on the island. If you've got kiddos in tow, go to the Lynn Meadows Discovery Center, only 2 minutes down the road. It is one of the best children's centers I have ever visited, and this is coming from a family who lives in a city with one of the best in the country. We really enjoyed it (and at under $10 per person, it's a great way to take a break from the beach)

Just as Advertised

  • 5 of 5

If you are wanting a private pool, tons of room for everyone....and a large price tag, these are not for you. However, if you want a place that is just as advertised, very clean, very well kept, and are happy with a smaller place, these are great!

The cottage we had (number 2) was very clean, very well maintained, had everything we needed for the two of us. It shows with the cottage we had and from looking at the others, and the grounds, that the owner spends a lot of time keeping them looking very nice. The place was as advertised and there is just nothing I could complain about. I don't care where you go, to get a hotel room this close to the beach, you will pay much more...and with a hotel you don't get the space you do here along with a kitchen you can cook in if you wish.

Lastly, the owner could not have made reserving, checking in, checking out easier. I would highly recommend...and I travel a great deal and rent a lot of houses, this is the best deal in town, I promise!

Love!!!

  • 5 of 5

I can't say enough about these cottages. The second I walked in I wanted to buy one to own myself! Super clean and well kept. Ample supplies to get us through our stay with hardly any need to run off to the store. (Only needed grocery). The owner was super sweet and always available when needed! Great neighborhood and so conveniently located. Will definitely be back! Recommend to anyone who wants a nice place to stay for a great price.

Disappointing...

  • 2 of 5

Our family and dog recently stayed in a 3 bedroom cottage over the Christmas holiday. We had reservations for 8 nights. Our initial reaction was that the facility was cute and spacious, but we soon became quite disappointed.

The moment we walked into our cottage we noted a slight smell. Over the course of our stay, there were periods of very strong sewage-like odors that permeated the entire cottage forcing us to keep the ventilation on and bathroom window open throughout our stay. Even with a candle burning, the scent at times was quite strong. When we e-mailed the owner, the solution was to move to a 2 bedroom unit, which would not have met the needs of our family.

We realized on our first walk with our dog that burs were present throughout the property limiting us to only being able to walk our dog on the gravel drive. The beach area across the street does not allow dogs.

Internet throughout our stay was sporadic. It was difficult to remain connected for any length of time even when an initial connection was made.

Upon our arrival, the unit lacked any laundry detergent. By our 5th night, we had run out of toilet paper, bar soap, and paper towels—with 3 nights remaining in our stay. We had to go to the local Walgreens several times to restock the unit.

The location was nice, being close to the beach and near a variety of food and shopping options. It is conveniently located between Gulfport and Biloxi. There is an active railroad track that can be heard from the property.

It was stormy at the beginning of our stay, and we had water coming in slightly through the front and side doors. I would not choose these accommodations during inclement weather.

It is also notable (although we did not know this at the time of our arrival) that these units are mobile homes and were constructed as part of the “Mississippi Alternative Housing Pilot Program” as a relief effort after Hurricane Katrina. These units can be seen throughout the area and quickly lose their unique appeal.

Owner's Response: We sincerely apologize for your disappointment but we believe we responded rather quickly to your concern. The guest sent us an email at 10 PM on Christmas Eve. Within 50 minutes we responded back. Unfortunately at that time of night, and on Christmas Eve, we were not able to get anyone to check it out. Since there was only 4 people in their party, we offered for the guest to move into a 2 bedroom unit that was only 60' away. We told them that we could get someone out there early on the morning of the 26th. They chose not to move to the 2 bedroom and elected to leave the 26th. As for the supplies it clearly states in our rental agreement that we supply our guests with an ample start up of soap and paper products but no shampoo or laundry detergent. In this case it lasted 5 nights which we feel is very ample. These cottages are Modular and not Mobile Homes. There is a big difference. The construction of our cottages are above and beyond International Building Codes with 2x6 framing, engineered trusses, concrete based hardi type siding, metal roofs, spray foam insulation and much, much more. Yes these were part of a Pilot Program and if you research them they are incredible and there is a very high demand for them. As for the smell we do not doubt that the guest smelled something but we have been closely monitoring this for the last 11 days and have not found evidence of the problem repeating. The very few unfavorable reviews that we have received over the past 4 years seem to always come when there is inclement weather such as this guest mentioned. We sure wish we could control Mother Nature but unfortunately we did have a few days of intense rain during their stay. Once again we sincerely apologize for the disappointment of this guest but we just wanted to take the opportunity to clarify a few of their complaints. We are certainly not perfect and we will take this response seriously to make us even better in the future. Thanks

Recreation & Relaxation

  • 5 of 5

We both truly enjoyed our R & R @ Beachview. Loved just sitting on our little porch feeling the gulf breeze. Everything was just as we expected, enjoyed our chit-chat with Barney. Highly recommend to anyone who wants a nice quaint little cottage on the beach without the high costs of a condo & the crowds. We'll be back!!
