Beautiful house and great location!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I stayed here in Dec and we really enjoyed the house and location. It was nice to get away from the holiday hustle and the Banks is always the place to go. Sandra and Cary were great hosts and very accommodating. Their house is really cool, comfortable and we loved the local vibe here! The landscaping is also bonus.Pick this place if you want to stay(lodge) away from the summer crowds, but still be around all the great stuff about Nags Head and the surrounding area.

Great place in Nags Head

  • 5 of 5

-- Plenty of bath and hand towels, and if you do a lot of cooking, there's a good supply of dishes, pots and pans.

-- Fishing rods are there to use if you fish, bicycles if you want to bike, and other beach gear is available for free use.

-- Neighborhood is quiet, with houses all around, and I felt safe at all times. The owners live upstairs and they are quiet as well.

-- You get the driveway for parking. The owners park in the street, or just off the street. Nice. And no traffic noise.

-- Great view of night sky in the neighborhood. If you're from an area with light pollution, you'll appreciate being able to see the Milky Way, even though the owners leave a light on for you every night to help you find the place along the residential street.

-- The bathroom has a night light. You'll appreciate that if you need to get up at two or three in the morning. . . .

-- You're only about two blocks from Highway 158, the main road through town, and maybe only two more from beachfront on the Atlantic side of the island. The nearest gas station is within a mile or two, as I recall. There's a nice coffeehouse a few miles north on 158 that opens at 6:00 A.M.

-- Lots of Outer Banks magazines to read on a rainy day or at night. A couple of the lamps should have brighter bulbs, but that's the case in most hotels, too.

-- On my first evening there, Sandy gave me a restaurant recommendation for Blue Moon Beach Grill on Route 12 in Nag's Head. It's popular, and for good reason. Dinnertime will be crowded, so get there early or eat at the bar.

-- During my week in the Outer Banks, starting in the third week of October, I only got one or two mosquito bites up and down the islands even though I did a lot of walking and hiking in dunes, on boardwalks, marinas, etc. Moderate weather (highs mostly in the seventies). Lighthouses and other popular spots not crowded at all. Lots of parking just about everywhere. Good time to visit. Light traffic, especially for a tourist destination. I can imagine the traffic on main roads in July and August.

-- Every day you get the impression that the owners want to make your vacation as enjoyable as possible. Much appreciated.

-- Overall, an enjoyable trip. For sure I would stay at this property again!

Nice, comfortable place, not super easy beach access.

  • 4 of 5

This was a very comfortable, well equipped property, super friendly and easy host. Weather during our short stay was crappy so we did not get to fully enjoy the bikes provided, easy fishing access, etc. Beach access is about 1.5 mile, OK by car/bike but a bit of a walk if you have loads of beach stuff. Would very much recommend this property.

Wonderful getaway for two!

  • 5 of 5

Surprise around every corner... lovely neighborhood, close to restaurants, shopping, the sound, and a short drive to the ocean. The owners are friendly and VERY accommodating. We brought our own food, but over-packed because EVERYTHING ELSE was provided...bicycles, fishing gear, coolers, beach towels... I obviously didn't read the entire listing. The cottage is very open, beautifully furnished with amazing art and whimsical décor. No updates needed, and the door in the photo completely secludes the bedroom from the living room, with a light-blocking curtain pushed to the sides. Coffee maker has a carafe' so one can sit on the secluded patio and enjoy the garden and décor.

The owners live upstairs, so normal activity can be heard maybe more than expected as their floors are not carpeted. If you need to sleep until noon, bring earplugs. If you party hard and loud until the early hours, you might want to look for another place to stay.

We will definitely go back!

Great Place!

  • 5 of 5

This place has everything you could possibly need for a great stay on the Outer Banks. If there was ever a place that described the saying "home away home" to a tee, this is it! We are looking forward to our next vacation here...we can't wait!
