About the property

Beautiful And Quaint With All Modern Updates On East Fork Of The Little River

This Beautiful Cabin was taken timber by timber from its original location in Etowah County, Alabama. The cabin is pre-civil war in construction, it was reconstructed using the old mortar technique and then added on to in its current location. The Cabin sits on a private road behind a gate. Secluded is an understatement. It is situated on a bluff overlooking the Crystal Clear East Fork of the Little River, just below a waterfall which can be heard as soon as you open the door to the car during the wetter seasons. We have an inviting front porch with a cozy antique swing where many a book has been read in the fragrant mountain air. The Cabin itself retains all of its antique charm as you enter the Great room with its enormous original stone double sided wood-burning fireplace serving the great-room and the Master bedroom both located on the lower floor. The Upstairs is separated by a staircase that leads to a private spacious upper loft that contains two Twin beds and a Queen Bed. There is a fully functional kitchen with stainless appliances/dishwasher/stove/oven/refrigerator/freezer. One Bathroom Downstairs, with High Efficency Maytag Washer and Dryer. Flat Screen TV with Apple TV/DVD/Inside/outside Stereo/Xbox/Wireless Internet/Dish Network/Central Heat and Air. Master Bedroom overlooks a large elevated back porch and the river can be heard from an open window. There is a large stone hearth wood burning fireplace in the bedroom. The Bedroom opens onto a cozy screened in porch with a 6 person water therapy spa/hot-tub. There is a charcoal grill on the back porch. There are steps to the fire-pit and picnic area overlooking the river, and steps to the river itself where depending on the water level you can swim/float/fish/lounge or sit in the crystal clear mountain water. The house is about 10 minutes from Downtown Mentone for antique shopping/cultural activity/or fantastic food and music at the Wildflower Cafe or other restaurants. The canyon is also about 10 minutes away, and 5 Minutes from Alpine Boys Camp, Desoto State Park, Desoto Waterfall, and Lake. There are wildflowers galore and wild blueberries and blackberries and plums along the road depending on the season. Wildlife abounds everywhere. The Tin Roof provides a great sound to sleep to when it rains.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had a wonderful time and the cabin was perfect. I wished we could have stayed longer. I can honestly say that we had zero complaints about your place. The view of the river is great. We had everything we might need and more. We were able to eat lunch at the Wildflower, Leigh's favorite place to eat, and it was terrific as usual. Although we have never stayed in Mentone, we often ride motorcycles through the area. Your place is far enough out that there is very little light pollution, so the sky reminded me of childhood when there were very few streetlights polluting the sky.

I have already recommended it to several friends if they wanted to get away from it all, and I'm sure we will be sneaking away again, but maybe next time, for several more days.

Thanks for checking in on us as we had a wonderful time!

Amazing vacation

  • 5 of 5

This was our 2nd stay at the cabin. I just Love this place, so peaceful, away from it all. We had a ton of fun swimming the river, kids had a blast!! Enjoyed the sound of the river in the evenings while grilling and roasting marshmallows over the camp fire. Mentone has certainly stolen my heart. This cabin offers everything. Thank you so much for sharing your piece of heaven with us. I'm already counting down the days to next year when we return.

A lovely cabin in a wonderful, secluded location, yet close to it all!

  • 5 of 5

My new wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Away From It All for our honeymoon. It is a little off the beaten path, about three miles on gravel roads, but the location is unbeatable: secluded and private, but right on the Little River with a splendid view and access to the water. Quiet mornings on the deck, relaxing evenings in the hot tub, and days just chilling on the couch will always be happy memories. The cabin has everything you need to relax and cook and be comfortable. It is an easy drive of just a few minutes to DeSoto State Park and the restaurant and trails there, and a short excursion to Mentone and the shops and restaurants there (the Wildflower Cafe especially is worthwhile). Fort Payne is also not far. This is a wonderful and beautiful part of the state, a hidden gem, full of natural beauty and friendly people, and not so touristy as to feel covered up with people, especially during the week. Away From It All is a great place to stay and well worth every penny.

We love this place!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I came here two years ago for our honeymoon, and Away From It All made such an impression on us that we returned for a week for our two year anniversary. We fished quite successfully everyday, and floated on the river when we got hot. We caught lots of fish, including quite a few red eyed bass (and set them free for you to enjoy of course!), made campfires to the sound of the river at sunset, took naps on the porch in the reclining chairs, took dips in the hot tub, relaxed on the front porch swing, and stargazed on the boulder overlooking the waterfalls at night. We really enjoy the privacy, seclusion, and serenity that you get when you vacation here, while we appreciate the modern amenities such as wifi, apple TV, cable, and porch speakers. We truly love this place, but our dogs might love it even more!

Perfect little hidden gem.

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I never even knew this small town was here and have been pleasantly surprised by it. The cabin is the perfect getaway for couples or even family vacations. There is so much to do from hiking, swimming holes, rock climbing, repelling, to sightseeing. We will definitely be back!

Perfect Weekend Getaway

  • 5 of 5

The location was amazing. The cabin was very clean and had all the amenities needed. We did not leave the entire time we were there. This place is truly relaxing and the sound of the water from the deck was very tranquil. Can't wait to go back.
