About Bruce Johnson
Hello! My name is Bruce. Welcome to New Orleans. I personally renovated my home in 2006.
Bruce Johnson purchased this House in 2005
Why Bruce Johnson chose Algiers Point
The home is located in historic Algiers Point, the second oldest settlement in New Orleans.
What makes this House unique
My home is an economical alternative to the French Quarter, and yet is just a five block walk or drive to the Algiers/Canal Street Car/Passenger Ferry. Historic Algiers Point is a quiet alternative to the fast French Quarter pace, and yet close enough to enjoy the full benefits of the French Quarter and all of New Orleans.

Beautiful historic neighborhood
We loved the neighborhood. A lot of beautiful old homes that have been restored to their former glory. Very quiet and clean. The walk to the ferry was great. Lots of interactions with friendly neighbors and a lot of cats that wanted petting! The unit itself was clean and the beds we're incredibly comfortable. My only negative comment would be that I think the people staying in the upstairs unit had smaller children that you could hear running around quite early. Not much you can do. We're grandparents ourselves so we know where you have kids you'll have noise.Overall we enjoyed our stay.
Amazing home in safe neighborhood just minutes outside downtown. Fit all my needs and wants and Bruce was informative about the awesome site seeing and things to do in new Orleans! Would highly recommend staying here
We loved our stay!!!
The house was very clean!! We enjoyed our time here . Definitely will be coming back 💜💜💜💜
Great value and location
Lots of positives: neighborhood was perfectly safe for walking at just about any hour of the day for a few women on a girls trip. Riding the ferry at $2 each way can add up, but is worth it, the Uber ride might take twice as long at certain times and is around $12 each time. You are literally across from the French Quarter. At a fraction of the cost, and in my opinion, much cleaner, safer and friendlier environment. Unit was well maintained and having a washer and dryer is a huge plus. Beds were comfortable and not dated. Sofa very comfy, even though it was not slept in by us. Please note, it is a basement style apartment, and comfortable for average height females - not taller than 5'6". A tall gentleman may feel crowded or too close to the ceiling.
Things to consider:
WiFi was unable to connect all trip. This was not great, since all of us had different cell phone service providers, and NONE of our providers gave us coverage - we frequently missed calls. This lack of coverage stayed happening citywide, but worse in the apartment. Do NOT wear impractical shoes. The streets are broken/dirty/messy and not worth ruining anything more than 1 pair of sneakers. Ladies - to go out at night I recommend sandals.
Food in general is amazing - places we strongly recommend include Ruby Slipper Café, Arnauds Remoulade, and Oceana. Didn't make it to Café Du Monde, but smelled delicious and was full as we walked by. Many of the major restaurants will have lines or long wait times - save yourself the headache and download the NOWait app and you will be contacted when its time to eat.
Another interesting tidbit - most clubs feature live bands, not DJ. This matters if you plan to dance. Side note: while Bourbon St is fun, especially to drink, Frenchman Street is the new place to get upscale jazz classics and new music. It's also a little cleaner. Do not engage in conversation with the street people....they will hustle you out of $20 for 1 picture snapped on your cellphone.
Overall - a great experience and we plan on returning to the city and using this awesome property as home base again.
Thank you ladies. I’m glad you enjoyed. Please come back. I’m sorry about the WIFI. I didn’t know it wasn’t working.
Cute house in quiet safe neighborhood.
We enjoyed our stay very much. It was a bit small for the 6 of us but we made it work. The low ceilings were a challange for my over 6 foot tall son and nephew but not a bad thing. Overall I would definitely come back to this location again. I'd even like the info for the upper unit too, to rent on my next trip to NOLA. Bruce was awesome and we kept in contact during our stay to make sure everything went smoothly. This home made our first trip to the Big Easy super easy and comfy. Thank you again Bruce!
Perfect for our needs.
This is our 3rd time staying here and it is perfect for ALL of our needs. We travel with two dogs and the backyard is perfect for running around. There are two delicious cafes in walking distance that we always eat at least once during our trip. The ease of use of the ferry to get to the city is also very convenient.
My home is a five (5) block walk or drive to the Algier's Point/Canal Street Ferry. A five minute ferry ride to The base of the French Quarter leaves you by Harrah's Casino, Riverwalk Mall, Canal Mall & Cinema, and a short walk to all of the French Quarter.
