About the property

Lovely late 1800' s cottage .Old New Orleans charm in a great location!

Come chill in the sitting pool!! This private house has one private bedroom and a comfortable fold out sofa in the living room. There is a nice size kitchen , with a cozy gas fireplace. It opens on to a gorgeous courtyard with a sitting pool. All new renovation , but old world charm remains. It is in a great location .. Within walking distance to the Marigny, Bywater and the French Quarter. There are a variety of bars, restaurants and coffee shops near by. Best of all, the new-opened St. Roch Market is just steps away!

A Great Place to Stay In NOLA

  • 5 of 5

This is a classic, comfortable cottage tucked away in a lovely neighborhood. The living room, full kitchen, and comfy bedroom make it seem like home. The back door opens onto a lovely courtyard in which to while away a hot NOLA afternoon or listen to the sounds of an approaching thunderstorm in the evening. The soaking pool offers a refreshing escape from the heat. There are great restaurants and music venues just a short walk away through charming neighborhoods. The French Quarter is also an easy walk. Tom and Ann, the owners who live next door, are generous with their knowledge and responsive to any inquiries. Like New Orleans itself, this is a quaint, charming, comfortable place to visit that makes you feel very, very welcome.

The cottage is very cute and clean and in a great location. The pool and the whole sideyard are very funky and fun to relax in. Love the chickens.

Do yourself a favor and book this place ASAP!

Travel is our hobby so we stay in all kinds of places booked via VRBO and Airbnb. This little black jewel now tops our list of favs!! Everything about it, from initial confirmation to departure schedule, was exactly what you would want from a "home sharing" situation. Here's a quick run down of what made this so special:

1. The location is divine. Out of the hustle of the French quarter, but still in the midst of a very vibrant neighborhood with a tremendous zest to offer. Literally steps away from the front door is St. Roch Market which is reason enough to book this place pronto! The market offered all kinds of tasty treats and we visited at least daily and sometimes twice! Google it...you will wanna go.

2. The house itself is a treat to spend time in. The layout is perfect for a couple and it has the added bonus of a shared courtyard that is perfect for coffee in the morning or a glass of wine at day's end. The bed was super comfy and the bath & kitchen were expertly appointed. We typically spend most of our time on the go whenever we travel, but this place kept calling us home and we ended up spending a lot more downtime here than is normal for us. But it felt like a treat to just "come home" to it.

3. Tom and Ann are the most gracious hosts we have ever encountered. Tom was super to deal with from the get go and very prompt to communicate with us before we even arrived. Once we got there, Ann had a loaf of pound cake waiting for us (which we devoured since we had been travelling all day to get there) and all sorts of goodies stocked in the fridge and in a snack bowl for us. In the bathroom, she had left homemade soaps and lotion and it was just a treat to be so spoiled. Tom was great to give us suggestions on places to eat and directions on how to get around. They just couldn't have been more generous with their time and attention to us. Felt like we were doted on!

I could go on and on. It was a wonderful get away for us and a big part of that was all because of this little black jewel! Thanks Tom and Ann!!

Outstanding !!!

  • 5 of 5

A perfect location , gorgeous cottage , very relaxing courtyard with sitting pool, cute animals, great foodies garden. For past 2 years we have stayed at the "Beautiful Jewel Box " each time for a great fortnight . The location is close to the many highlights of the city , walking distance to all the delights of Frenchmans St and the French Quarter. Easy access to public transport and no problems in parking on the quiet street. Great safe neighborhood and fabulous restaurants/bars in the area. Ann and Tom are delightful, warm and caring hosts who are generous in sharing their secret spots. We are looking forward to our next visit.

No parking. Unsafe area. Rude and won't give you your money back if not satisfied. Don't do it!

  • 1 of 5

My worst experience ever in NOLA and I am from here and it was my anniversary. The contact person was rude and obnoxious when we could not find parking for our vehicle. He seemed rushed and annoyed. The house decor was old and not in a good way.. No central air and musty smell. For only a little more, you could stay in a nicer room on Bourbon St. with a balcony. The neighborhood looked seedy and unsafe at night. And again, parking is a nightmare. If you are unhappy with this place, you will not get your money back unless you pay the shady fee for dissatisfaction. Indicating some shadiness right off. Stay any where else! These reviews look fake. My experience was awful. Don't do it!

Owner's Response: To set the record straight I tried to cut and paste the initial conversation I had with the prospective guest, but there is not enough room here to do that. The cottage was always available to these guests but they just decided not to stay because he scratched his truck against a tree and became "furious". They did ask in advance about parking and I told them it is street parking and not generally a problem, all true. There was plenty of parking at their arrival across the street. I have parked my vehicle there within a few doors at most of the cottage for years with no problem. They first said the cottage was "nice", now it's "old" and "musty". The "shady fees" whatever they are, and the refund policies, are controlled by VRBO, not us. Likewise for the so-called "fake reviews", that's a VRBO controlled item and we personally met each and every person who wrote each review. I could go on, but would rather let our other reviews speak for themselves.

Map

This adorable cottage is within walking distance to the Marigny , Bywater, Frenchman Street and the French Quarter. There are a number of neighborhood bars in easy walking distance, some of which also serve food, such as Arabella Casa di Pasta (at Cajun's) and Kukhnya (at Siberia), and the brand new St. Roch market is right around the corner! (See last 2 pictures) Fattoush restaurant is one block away, located in the New Orleans Healing Center which houses the New Orleans food co-op, a health club ($15 for one day pass, less for multiples) yoga studio ($17 for one day pass), and other shops.... just three short blocks to Marie's Bar (one of New Orleans finest bloody Mary's ) and a short walk to Mimi's, Feelings Cafe, Faubourg Wines and several cool coffee shops, to mention a few things.

The cottage is newly beautifully renovated. It is a true New Orleans beauty with all modern amenities.. There are high ceilings , ceiling fans and hard wood floors. Stainless steel appliances, fabulously comfy pillow top mattress , flat screen tv's, cable and wireless internet. There is a gas fireplace and the cottage opens onto a beautiful serene court yard with a lovely 'cocktail' pool .. Great for sitting, relaxing and cooling off . Washer and dryer on premises , as well as Lulu and Buddha .. 2 sweet hens that may provide fresh eggs if the timing is right.

This cottage is cozy .. The bedroom is separate and private.. ( not a 'shotgun') . There is a queen size bed and a big window and a closet.. In the living room there is a nice queen size fold out couch with a thick mattress and springs.

This is a truly wonderful place to be your home away from home while you are in are in this fabulous 'City of New New Orleans!'
