We enjoyed a week at Palmetto Bay as a family. We liked the very natural surround and the house was very well appointed. The property is beautiful and well managed, but quite isolated. We experienced multiple power outages while there, which was a nice break from technology, but somewhat inconvenient. Of course, that's not the fault of the owners. The house is open air, so it was VERY humid inside the home, even with aircon units in the bedrooms. The hot water is either scalding or cold because of the on-the-spot water heater, so that took some adjusting. Again, no fault of the owners, but the property is completely riddled with no-see-ums and sand fleas. The bug spray we bought on island did not provide any deterrent for the bugs, so bring that deet or whatever you think will help. I will always associate being itchy and Roatan when I think of this trip. The on-site restaurant is quite pricey, but nice to have since getting anywhere else on the island where there are restaurants is a 15-20 minute drive. Having a car while staying at this property is essential. The beach associated with this property was very full of sea grass and there was a creek that emptied out right into the ocean and after some heavy rains, the water turned completely muddy with all the runoff. A walk around the corner from the beach gives you a much cleaner experience, but it's not totally clear if those spots are private property or not. Overall, this isn't a luxury stay, but it has some plusses that aid in a relaxing vacation.
