This home has three bedrooms, two full tiled baths, a large eat in kitchen, living room/dining room, a family room and separate laundry room. It has a big front deck with mountain views and flowering container plants everywhere. The deck is shaded by a big apricot tree, just delightful on a hot afternoon. There is also a back covered portal/patio with table and chairs, BBQ and fireplace and of course more plants. There is ample parking and surrounding garden spaces. A fun addition is big storage shed which is now 'The bunkhouse' a perfect spot for the young or young at heart. The home sleeps 2-6 in beds. There is a family room sofa for one guestand bunk house sleeps two. The Bunk house is summer lodging although there is a heater and electric mattress pads...
The home is furnished with my antiques, consignment store and yard sale treasures, original art, folk art pieces and my whimsical style throughout. All bedding, towels, kitchen supplies and appliances are new and inviting.
If all this is not enough, my home is less than a five minute walk through a pleasant old neighborhood to the downtown Plaza area with shops, galleries and restaurants.
There is an additional one bedroom casita on the property (separate parking and fenced for privacy) which will sleep two-three (vrbo 490376.) If you choose to also rent this casita this Compound can sleep 12 guests A truly perfect getaway for 2- 12 guests!
GREAT/FUN NEWS FLASH!!! This house and the little Casita Juliet (Vrbo 490376) on the property were featured on The Taos Home & Garden Tour the summer of 2015 I got to show off what I love to do to over 500 folks! A very good day indeed...
From Foreclosure to Tour material is quite a compliment and very exciting!!! So often Tour homes, while often quite lovely have that 'professional designer' look. The architect is there, the Builder, the Landscaper and all the owner knows is that they wrote a lot of checks to make this happen. Believe me, I know ALL about these houses since I performed all above roles as well as laborer and general schlepper... My style, my time, my creativity and sense of whimsy at work.
PLEASE NOTE: Even if my calendar shows a booking for your dates contact me. I have a total of 10 Taos Vacation Rentals so I have all kinds of availability...
Some women collect shoes. Some collect husbands. I seem to collect houses!
I am the VRBO Queen of Taos with two homes, a downtown apartment and now another house and soon (within the month) a little casita for guests.
I so enjoy buying old adobes, remodeling and reviving and then furnishing them and renting them to visitors. My houses are always booked and I get great reviews.
I am a busy Taos woman. Aside from my vacation rentals, I own a fun, eclectic downtown shop called Red Cat Melissiana. The name is a combination of my red cat Nellie and my name. Melissiana is a made up word and means 'anything I want since it's my shop'. I have unique gifts, flowers and lingerie in a wonderful old adobe building with great history on a street known as 'The Garden Street of Taos' planted of course by me. I am active in my community, on two board of directors and certainly never have a bored moment.
I moved to Taos 8 years ago from the San Francisco Bay area after raising my three children as a successful landscaper. I wanted a small town with lots to do, real mountains and four seasons. I got all this and more. I can't imagine living anywhere else and love sharing my town with my guests.
Melissa /Taos mgr. purchased this house in 2013
I've known this home for years. A friend of mine owned it and I often went to garage sales at the house. It had a nice feel to it and I liked the location. It went into foreclosure two years ago and I honestly forgot about it. I had enough else going on. A real estate friend of mine mentioned it to me and we went to see it. I immediately saw the incredible potential as a wonderful vacation rental, but no longer had my 'California money or California mentality'
My mom is 96 and talked about wanting to do something for me while she was still alive to enjoy it. She wrote a check and I had another house.
I bought it in March and it was quite the challenge, but 4 months later I have an amazing showcase vacation rental!
Thanks mom! I've named it 'Casa Madre' for you!!!
This home has a wonderful feeling to it. Ok, part of it is my style and taste I know, but it is inviting and friendly with a spacious, yet cozy feeling.
Floors are wood or mexican tile, there are lots of windows and it has a welcoming feel.
The house is constructed of 'cross ties' which are railroad ties, but not treated with creosote so the walls are thick and it is cool on the warmest days. I splurged on two gas log stoves for that fireplace feel without the firewood chore. All rooms now have heat. It must have been quite chilly in the past, but will now be warm in the winter.
The house has a nice layout and will be comfortable for one to three couples in the three bedrooms.
The neighborhood is great. Nice homes, peaceful and quiet. Birdsong in the day, crickets at night and occasionally the intriguing sound of someone's peacock! (A peacock in Taos? I swear it is...)
There are two homes on the property, but each have their own parking area, are separated by gardens and a fence so everyone maintains a sense of privscy.
The property is completely fenced and I am a dog friendly lady who knows how many folks travel with their pet.
This is a very special home and I am proud to offer it as a vacation rental.
Melissa, we had a wonderful stay in your house. So cozy and tons of character and charm!
We especially appreciated the fully stocked kitchen. Made cooking so much more pleasant.
We look forward to coming back for another visit.
We stayed here as a big group-8 adults and 3 kids. It was a blast! The house is open and inviting and the rooms are very cozy. We didn't have an issue w space and we all had hot showers! We hope to make it back in the summer to use the Weber grill and picnic table outside. Highly recommend and Melissa was very nice to work with. Thanks!
This property is decorated and furnished with a unique collection of authentic antique and eclectic furniture, art, and decorative pieces from Taos, the Southwest and Mexico. The property has plenty of Taos personality and shows the owner's interest in and appreciation of the arts of Taos, The Southwest and Mexico. The location is centrally located, close to the Plaza with easy access to all main streets. The kitchen, baths and laundry are adequately equipped and stocked with small amounts of basic staples, spices, paper goods, soaps, etc. Grocery stores, services and shopping are very close and convenient. Very homey feel and well maintained. We were very pleased!
Casa Madre was great! It had all the amenities we needed, was in a great location, and clean and comfortable.
We had a group of 5 adults, 1 child, and a dog. The adobe was very charming, with lots of character. We had enough space for all of us to feel comfortable. The gas-fired stoves are very nice. Large kitchen with a bar was great for hanging out while cooking. Large dining table with seating for 6 was nice. Shower heads were a bit cumbersome due to being so low, but this isn't uncommon with adobes. Outdoor spaces were great, even though it was a bit cold for us to use them much. Walkable to the plaza with just one section lacking sidewalks. We all felt the beds were on the firm side, so if you like firm, you're good. Bedding itself was comfortable. Very quiet neighborhood. Home was clean and Melissa was responsive to all communications. We plan to stay again in the future. Tree House Lounge above Lambert's was a great Happy Hour for us one night, and we always enjoy live music at the Adobe Bar within the Taos Inn.
We rented this property 2 years ago for friends from Scotland and we were so impressed that we just rented it again for out of town guests. It is charming and whimsical and absolutely comfortable as well. It's located very near the plaza and within easy driving distance to grocery stores, music, museums and other Taos amenities. We loved the artwork and the attention to details for extra comfort such as complete sets of pots and pans, essential kitchen items such as oils and spices, lots of fluffy robes and towels, laundry facilities and extra blankets. The wifi works beautifully, the gas stoves are both functional and pretty to look at and there are live plants throughout the house for that extra homey look. I would highly recommend this rental to anyone who wants a true Taos home experience!
This is our 3rd year staying as Casa Madre during the Wool Festival. We share the house with another couple and it is perfect. We hit the farmers market Saturday and then enjoy grilling out on the covered patio, taking in the beautiful evenings in Taos. Very clean and comfortable, plenty of room to relax and enjoy. Very quiet neighborhood. Melissa is always very helpful and quick to respond when corresponding to make reservations and to answer any questions. Have already booked for next year !!!!!
So much to do in Taos whether your interests are outdoor adventures (ski, snowboard, white water rafting, hiking) cultural events (6 museums, lecture series) shopping (numerous, fun shops in walking distance) art galleries (Numerous galleries on Ledoux Street, Kit Carson Rd., Bent Street--all in walking distance) Many restaurants within walking distance
