About this property
Casa Madre 3 bedroom/2 baths
This home has three bedrooms, two tiled baths (one has tub/shower combination), a large kitchen, living room/dining room, a family room and separate laundry room. It has a big front deck with mountain views and flowering container plants everywhere. The deck is shaded by a big apricot tree, just delightful on a hot afternoon. There is also a back covered portal/patio with table and chairs, BBQ and of course more plants. There is ample parking for two vehicles and surrounding garden spaces. A fun addition is 'The bunkhouse' a perfect spot for the young or young at heart. ($25 per person per night. Just add when booking. The home sleeps 2-6 in beds. There is also a family room sofa sleeper with gel foam mattress and all bedding. ($25 per night per person)The bunk house sleeps two and guests use inside bathrooms. The Bunk house is summer lodging although there is a heater and electric mattress pads for hardy souls. ($25 per person per night)
The home is furnished with my antiques, consignment store and yard sale treasures, original art, folk art pieces and my whimsical style throughout. All bedding, towels, kitchen supplies and appliances are new and inviting.
If all this is not enough, my home is a short walk through a pleasant historic neighborhood to the downtown Plaza area with shops, galleries and restaurants.
As with all of my properties I am dog friendly. Dog sheets provided for sofas and beds and mutt mitts for dog clean up. There is a fenced side yard off the front deck for dogs. I charge $10 per night per dog. This may be left at the house upon departure or added when booking.
There is an additional one bedroom casita on the property (separate parking and fenced for privacy) which will sleep two(vrbo 490376.) for an additional rental fee. If you choose to also rent this casita this Compound can sleep 8 guests in beds. and family room sofa sleeper for two in Casa Madre. A truly perfect getaway for 2- 10 guests! I welcome stays at 30 days + with a generous 50% discount and pet fee of $100 per stay.
If Casa Madre is booked for your dates please look at Casa Grande Vrbo 860840 which is another one of my homes. Also three bedrooms and two baths and walking distance to the Plaza.

About the host
Hosted by Melissa /Taos mgr.
Some women collect shoes. Some collect husbands. I seem to collect houses!
I have 11 vacation Rentals in Taos. Everything from one bedroom apartments and casitas to two and three bedroom homes.
I so enjoy buying old adobes, remodeling and reviving and then furnishing them and renting them to visitors. My houses are always booked and I get great reviews.
I moved to Taos 14 years ago from the San Francisco Bay area after raising my three children as a successful landscaper. I wanted a small town with lots to do, real mountains and four seasons. I got all this and more. I can't imagine living anywhere else and love sharing my town with my guests.

Why they chose this property
I've known this home for years. A friend of mine owned it and I often went to garage sales at the house. It had a nice feel to it and I liked the location. It went into foreclosure and I honestly forgot about it. I had enough else going on. A real estate friend of mine mentioned it to me and we went to see it. I immediately saw the incredible potential as a wonderful vacation rental, but no longer had my 'California money or California mentality'
My mom was 96 and talked about wanting to do something for me while she was still alive to enjoy it. She wrote a check and I had another house.
I bought it in March and it was quite the challenge, but 4 months later I have an amazing showcase vacation rental!
Thanks mom! I've named it 'Casa Madre' for you!!!

What makes this property unique
This home has a wonderful feeling to it. Ok, part of it is my style and taste I know, but it is inviting and friendly with a spacious, yet cozy feeling.
Floors are wood or mexican tile, there are lots of windows, screened doors and it has a welcoming feel.
The house is constructed of 'cross ties' which are railroad ties, but not treated with creosote so the walls are thick and it is cool on the warmest days. I splurged on two gas log stoves for that fireplace feel without the firewood chore. All rooms now have heat. It must have been quite chilly in the past, but will now be warm in the winter. Please ONLY operate gas log stoves from wall thermostats and NEVER turn off main gas lines.
The house has a nice layout and will be comfortable for one to three couples in the three bedrooms.
The neighborhood is great. Nice homes, peaceful and quiet. Birdsong in the day, crickets at night and occasionally the intriguing sound of someone's peacock! (A peacock in Taos? I swear it is...)
There are two homes on the property, but each have their own parking area, are separated by gardens and a fence so everyone maintains a sense of privacy.
This is a very special home and I am proud to offer it as a vacation rental.
