Why Bryan Vogel chose East Central

Lightkeepers cottages were built in 1947 as a vacation resort. The Lightkeepers name comes from it's close proximity to the Point Aux Barques Light house which is located next door. Enjoy the water by day and the light from the lighthouse as it guides passing ships at night.

A Gem of Michigan's Treasures.

  • 5 of 5

It was a pleasant surprise to find a well maintained stand of rustic cabins left in Michigan - seems they are going extinct. Bryan and Laura are great hosts and you'll find the cabins full of charm, everything you need - nothing you don't.

Great getaway for a great price.

  • 5 of 5

The rustic cabins reminded us of youth camp in the Kewanaw. The hosts have given them a homey feel and went out of their way to make it as pleasant and relaxing as possible. I loved being able to open the window and hear the sound of the waves at night. Nothing better to sleep by.

First stay

  • 5 of 5

Brian and Laura, have given this little oasis a much needed boost of love. We stayed in cabin 1 and already look forward to our next visit. Hearing the water at night and the screened in porch is a must experience. We are so happy to have stumbled into this wonder slice of perfect!

A return to a quieter time in america.

  • 5 of 5

Such a fantastic trip. Brian and Laura had everything ready to go when we got there. The cabin was built in the late forties or early fifties and has been well maintained with an older nostalgic feel like you just stepped back in time. With a traditional rocky lake beach and crystal clear water reminded me of my time growing up in Europe. Anything you need Brian and Laura are available and willing to help however they can. A nice small community with a lot of welcoming smiles and hellos from people. The lighthouse is a short walk from the cabin and well worth the stop the volunteer staff knows their stuff and the built in 1857 the lighthouse is still in use by the USCG today. There is alot to do in the area from sandy beaches to lighthouses that dot the shores of lake huron and plenty of places to eat including a delicious stop at Rybak's for some tasty ice cream. This is a nice trip to take and relax and sight see and explore and with calm waters plenty of boat or kayak adventures to take. Brian and Laura make you feel at home say hello and ask how things are going when they see you. Make a trip to Lightkeeper cabins it is a great way to spend a few days or a whole week.

Beautiful view from a different era

  • 5 of 5

This place will take you back to a time when cars had fins everyone stopped to talk to their neighbors and time moved slower. The owners are very nice and helpful the cabins are nostalgic and the views right on the water are just fantastic you'll love this quiet retreat right next to pointe aux barques lighthouse which is a short walk away and worth a stop in to explore also. Very nice people very nice stay thank you.

2 stars for the beds and the area

  • 2 of 5

The cottage was vintage, dark dank and run down, not very clean, and needed a lot of tender care.

There were holes in the old floor, didn't look like it was ever mopped, the beach was horrible!!! There was no mention of the SHARED fire pit!!! The beach area was over grown with weeds and such. I guess we got what we paid for simply a place to sleep. What a let down!!!...p.s. there was no sunrise in view!!

Owner's Response: We strive to ensure our guests have a pleasant stay at Lightkeepers. We try to greet each guest upon arrival and give them an orientation to the shoreline, grills and fire-pits. Each cabin does have it’s own fire pit. I am sorry that you were unable to locate your dedicated firepit which is a 3 foot diameter campfire ring on the shore directly below your cabin (3 steps and a walkway). Cabins are cleaned between each guest and we are sorry that you did not reach out to us while you were here with any of your concerns. Our cabins face Northeast and the sunrise can be viewed by the shore or the deck behind the cabin by looking 45 degrees to the right. The sunrise is not always visible on rainy or cloudy days.
