***Welcome, Big Game Hunters***

***Your Mountain Getaway***

The Lost Elk Lodge is a unique wilderness experience located in the heart of historic Jasper, Colorado. The cabin is built on the location of the old Cherokee Trading Post of a bygone era. The property is 1 acre of commercial resort/tourist (CRT) land, having 300 feet of frontage on Forest Service Road 250 and also a seasonal creek running next to it. There is year-round access with the road plowed to the driveway of the property making it ideal for 4 seasons of fun. From hiking to snowmobiling and hunting to fishing, there's a little something for everyone.

While hunting is not allowed in the town of Jasper itself, it's important to note that usually a short walk from any property takes you in to the Rio Grande National Forest where elk, deer, bear, big horn sheep, coyotes, game birds and countless other game are readily available. Likewise, the Platoro Reservoir is a short drive up the road and hosts freshly stocked trout and Kokanee salmon. Not to mention all of the secret streams, lakes and ponds known by the Jasper residents.

Located in the remote Rocky Mountains, in the South San Juan Range, the Lost Elk Lodge offers an off-grid escape while maintaining the most important of creature comforts. Although there is no commercial power, the cabin is self-sufficient with solar, batteries, propane and a generator. The artesian well produces fresh spring water which is safe, delicious and refreshing to drink.

Satellite internet is also available, allowing guests to check their email and browse the Web if they so desire. (Streaming audio/video and large downloads are not supported or allowed due to limited bandwidth!) In addition, a Skype phone is now available for outgoing calls.

The cabin is approximately 1100 interior square feet plus another 700 square feet of wood decks that extend from every wall of the cabin. There are 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, and living and dining areas with plenty of room for cots. The place is fully furnished with everything you would need for a comfortable stay including bedding, towels, and all of the basic dry goods.

This was our second stay at Lost Elk Lodge. We love the serene setting and beautiful cabin!

A beautiful cabin and extremely well- equipped. The solar power/ generator is very easy to use and Dara, the reservationist is extremely helpful in answering any questions you might have about the cabin's operation. If you desire an "off grid" experience we highly recommend Lost Elk Lodge!

Wonderful, special place.

  • 5 of 5

This experience was wonderful for our family to unplug + unwind! Jasper, CO is an unbelievably beautiful location, away from it all!

The cabin is well appointed and exceptionally clean. The owners have thought of everything for comfort's sake and this attention to detail made our experience all the more enjoyable. We loved cooking meals, hanging out on the porches, playing games at night. I can't recommend this enough!

TIPS:

*Don't let "off-grid" living scare you! The solar panels were easy to navigate and it was actually quite informative for our kids how much power everyday appliances use!

*Bring food for the fridge and the staples that you need. There are restaurants in Platoro and groceries in Monte Vista/Alamosa, but those are a bit far away and we found our time was a lot better spent in the Jasper area exploring!

*Research this area before you come-the history is interesting and you get so much more out of your visit with some of this in mind! There is a wonderful website that I believe the owner of this property started/contributes to and there are excellent suggestions for hikes, info on local fishing, geocaching, and more.

*Ask questions-Dara is WONDERFUL and so attentive to your specific needs.

OVERALL, I highly recommend this property + these people who care so much about this area. It was such a treat, and we can't wait to bring the family there again.Thank you so much, Larry, Marisa, Dara, and Gail!

Hidden Treasure in Jasper Colorado

  • 5 of 5

We loved our Jasper vacation. From the first contact with the owner our experience could not have been better. We have rented many VRBO homes, none have been as well equipped as this cabin.

Kitchen pantry stocked with staples and spices. Cabinets filled with all the cooking and bakeware you will need. They even have what I call a junk drawer with all the extras you might need, small tools, batteries, matches, etc.

Linens- high quality

Bathrooms, stocked with all the things you will find in a high end hotel.

Beds- very comfortable.

Plenty of board games and videos for the DVD player...not that we watched it with the beautiful views from every part of the property.

Each day we would have muledeer enjoying the sweet grass surrounding and the mountain stream. At night we would leave the bedroom door and window open to hear the sound of the cool mountain stream.

There are so many things to do in this area, fishing, canoeing and ATV adventures. We brought our own ATV and had many adventures from trout fishing, gold panning and hiking, it was anew adventure each day.

When they say just bring your clothes and food they were kidding!

We had no issues with the solar power.

Looking forward to more trips to this cabin.

Loved our stay in this cute cabin. Plenty of room for the whole family, though it was only the two of us. Scenery was gorgeous, great trails to explore and fishing! Wildlife walking right through the front yard. So relaxing.

Beyond Expectations and More.....

You won't go wrong staying in this wonderfully equipped cabin. Solar power and generator are extremely easy to use and makes you feel so self sufficient! We had two young boys who loved playing in the stream and on the huge front porch. If you need a place to unwind and relax.....this is it!
