***Welcome, Big Game Hunters***

The Lost Elk Lodge is ideally situated for deer, elk and other big game hunting (GMU 80/81). Contact us for a quote!

The Lost Elk Lodge is a unique wilderness experience located in the heart of historic Jasper, Colorado. The cabin is built on the location of the old Cherokee Trading Post of a bygone era. The property is 1 acre of commercial resort/tourist (CRT) land, having 300 feet of frontage on Forest Service Road 250 and also a seasonal creek running next to it. There is year-round access with the road plowed to the driveway of the property making it ideal for 4 seasons of fun. From hiking to snowmobiling and hunting to fishing, there's a little something for everyone.

While hunting is not allowed in the town of Jasper itself, it's important to note that usually a short walk from any property takes you in to the Rio Grande National Forest where elk, deer, bear, big horn sheep, coyotes, game birds and countless other game are readily available. Likewise, the Platoro Reservoir is a short drive up the road and hosts freshly stocked trout and Kokanee salmon. Not to mention all of the secret streams, lakes and ponds known by the Jasper residents.

Located in the remote Rocky Mountains, in the South San Juan Range, the Lost Elk Lodge offers an off-grid escape while maintaining the most important of creature comforts. Although there is no commercial power, the cabin is self-sufficient with solar, batteries, propane and a generator. The artesian well produces fresh spring water which is safe, delicious and refreshing to drink.

Satellite internet is also available, allowing guests to check their email and browse the Web if they so desire. (Streaming audio/video and large downloads are not supported or allowed due to limited bandwidth!) In addition, a Skype phone is now available for outgoing calls.

The cabin is approximately 1100 interior square feet plus another 700 square feet of wood decks that extend from every wall of the cabin. There are 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, and living and dining areas with plenty of room for cots. The place is fully furnished with everything you would need for a comfortable stay including bedding, towels, and all of the basic dry goods.

Beyond Expectations and More.....

  • 5 of 5

You won't go wrong staying in this wonderfully equipped cabin. Solar power and generator are extremely easy to use and makes you feel so self sufficient! We had two young boys who loved playing in the stream and on the huge front porch. If you need a place to unwind and relax.....this is it!

What a slice of heaven. If you want to "get away", the Lost Elk Lodge is it. Everything is available to decompress and recharge your batteries. Extremely clean with all the amenitities, the lodge exceeded my expectations. Wildlife abound in the area with hiking and fishing at your fingertips. I would highly recommend this place and I hope to get back soon.

Great Get-Away

  • 5 of 5

This is a very nice cabin and well equipped with everything you need. It is in a great setting with a small stream that runs by the edge of the property. Our family stayed here to visit friends in the area and had a blast exploring the area with them. We went up to Cliff Lake and to the town of Platoro to do some fishing. We enjoyed every minute of it and wish we could've spent more time here.

Wonderful wilderness escape

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in Jasper for Memorial Day weekend and the Lodge was exactly what we were looking for! It was beautiful and in a lovely setting and a great place for our young daughter and dog to enjoy as well. We enjoyed exploring the area one day (it wasn't a bad drive to the Great Sand Dunes / Alamosa) and a day just spent hiking around the local area another day, and in the evenings cooked out on the grill and relaxed! They had just gotten satellite internet installed, so when we wanted to check in with the outside world we could, but you really don't want to once you're there! Electricity was on when we arrived and we never had to even think about it the rest of the weekend, and the gas heaters kept things nice and warm when it started to snow. The board games and outdoor games where a nice touch, and there were plenty of dry goods to use for cooking if you forgot anything. Also, even though there was no cell reception, our GPS/ google maps on the phone worked all the way up to the cabin, which was helpful when arriving quite late at night from Denver. Highly recommend the Lost Elk Lodge to anyone looking to disconnect and relax for a bit in a beautiful surrounding.

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for your super review, Courtney! We're thrilled you had a wonderful time at the Lodge and could take advantage of all the wild and beautiful stuff in and around Jasper. Little piece of heaven

  • 5 of 5

Our stay in Jasper was truly refreshing. The views from a top of Bennett Peak was breath taking. (Can hike the trail, but taking the ATVs was the quickest!). The cabin had everything we needed to make our stay stress free. Also we took a 40 minute drive to the town of Platoro and had an awesome dinner in a great restaurant. (Huge portions, will certainly fill anyone up) If you like to fish rivers/reservoirs this cabin is in a great location. The town of Jasper is nothing like the big tourist towns. This cabin had all the comforts of home and the ball toss game was a great family/friends activity and with the daily chipmunk and deer visits our time at the cabin was awesome.

Thank you for sharing this gorgeous cabin.

We would love to rent this cabin again!

Perfect Place to Get Away

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time at the Lost Elk Lodge. During the day we toured the area and at night we enjoyed the cabin. The four kids (ages 16-21) loved the ladder toss game. It was a nightly ritual to play it. They also loved to play the National Park Monopoly game. The cabin worked out great. Electricity was never an issue. The cabin is well stocked with all the supplies you need. The thing we were most surprised/excited about was the amount of deer around the cabin. One night there were 8 in the yard circling the cabin. We saw deer every morning and evening. The balconies provided great viewing. We hiked to the waterfall and the kids did the hike from Summitville down to Jasper. On Sunday when we were out we experienced rain/sleet/snow. That was something we hadn't experienced in August. We couldn't have picked a better place to stay. Getting away from the all the technology of today (i.e. cell phones and computers) created an environment to enjoy our family time together. Thank you for allowing us to use your beautiful cabin. It was perfect for the six of us. (P.S. Having two bathrooms made life much easier)
