Escape to the beautiful Sierra foothills and our private 60-acre ranch in the Gold Country. Bring your dogs and horses, or enjoy playing with ours. Meet our llamas and experience their tickle-soft mouths while feeding them treats. Take a llama for a walk for unique photos from one of the scenic view spots on the ranch. Enjoy farm-fresh eggs after collecting them from the coop or just have a laugh while watching the chickens play. Extensive fencing keeps dogs safely separated.
Ranch life doesn’t have to be rustic as you’ll see in our 5-star guest house with spectacular sunset views, hot tub, and luxury amenities! We host only one group at a time with up to 6 people, so you have as much privacy as you want in this relaxing rural paradise. Come enjoy the beautiful setting, with the option to join our daily barn visits to interact with the animals during your country getaway.
There are many other fun things to do on our ranch from private hiking trails, swimming pond, game room, horse shoe pit, and basketball court. Our location offers the best of both worlds with the rural privacy to re-connect with nature PLUS the conveniences of being only a few miles from small country towns (Pine Grove, Jackson and Sutter Creek) for groceries, restaurants, and more.

About Cyndi Harrell
As you probably guessed, we (Cyndi & Troy Harrell) are animal lovers and get frustrated by not having nice places we can bring our fur children. Our Dog & Pony Ranch has been an ideal solution for vacationing with our dogs and horses which is close enough to the Bay Area so we can getaway frequently. We are active in animal rescue (and also pet-therapy visits to senior centers) and have brought many of our foster dogs here who have found healing from their pasts while running off-leash and learning to become well-behaved family members. Cyndi manages the property and will respond quickly to all inquiries!
Cyndi Harrell purchased this Guest House in 1998
Why Cyndi Harrell chose Pine Grove
We are also avid skiers and outdoor enthusiasts who fell in love with the Jackson area during years of stopping here after skiing at Kirkwood on our way back to the Bay Area (an easy weekend 3 hr drive away from Jackson). After reading the local property pages many times at Mel & Faye’s Diner, we bought this 60-acre property in 1998 as raw land and have greatly enjoyed the many year journey of developing it into our Dog & Pony Ranch. It’s in a great location with large private acreage that is still close to the conveniences of town, close to skiing and many activities, with very usable land including a perfect hilltop house site with stunning sunset views. There have been so many interesting and sometimes frustrating lessons about rural living while adding well, septic, road, power, phone, fencing, pond and recreation features, horse facilities and finally our dream home.
What makes this Guest House unique
We love entertaining friends and family at our Dog & Pony Ranch where we put our best foot/paw/hoof forward to welcome the many people (and their pets!) visiting over the years, first camping and later in our luxury home which we opened to the public for vacation rentals starting in 2013. Many guests have commented on the peaceful quiet and restorative feeling of our country getaway, which we have found very beneficial for stress relief from our high-tech careers. Please come back and visit regularly to see how we continue to improve this special place!

a little bit of wonderful!
This was an experience we will never forget. The opportunity to enjoy the beautiful surroundings with our big dogs was a joy for all four of us......we can't wait to get back.
From walking the llamas to playing with the Decker cows......watching our little girl dog fall madly in love with the horses and eating those magnificent fresh eggs for breakfast......
it was all food for the soul.....
doggie paradise, for real!
Everything about our long weekend stay was wonderful. Our dog loved the dog door, pond, horses, and most of all resident Lab, Cody. We loved the space, the trails, views and sunsets, fresh eggs, and most of all owners Cyndi and Troy Harrell. Can't say enough good things about the Dog and Pony Ranch!
Most Wonderful Place for a Family Vacation!
What a weekend! We spent a 3 nights with Cyndi and Troy and their beautiful family of horses, chickens, dogs, llamas, cows, and even a cat! We brought our twin 5 year old daughters and our 16 year old daughter, and they had the most wonderful experience they could have ever imagined! In fact, when we left, the twins asked to come back for their birthday. We always go to Disneyland for their birthdays, so we asked if they would rather come back here or go to Disneyland this year and the vote was unanimous ... come back to the Dog and Pony Farm! We weren't surprised though because we all felt this way!
Cyndi and Troy were very kind and loving to our girls and took the time to show the girls how to care for animals and thought of such creative ways to keep everyone engaged (despite the large age difference in our girls ages). They even welcomed our twins into their home as the girls chased Cody and Hannah through the doggy doors. It felt like we were spending the weekend visiting family!
The property is beautiful and even these stunning photos don't do it justice. The views are incredible and the sunsets are like no other. Cyndi took us on a hike around the property, which someone could spend the entire day exploring - and ensured she made every experience for the girls a fun and learning opportunity. The animals are all kind and loving and loved having us around. They were very gentle with the girls. We do not have animals of our own, but by the end of the weekend, it felt like we had a whole farm that belong to us, as Cyndi, Troy and their wonderful family of animals were so welcoming.
We loved our stay at the Dog and Pony Farm and will definitely be making a return visit!
It was so fun hosting your wonderful family who clearly loves animals like we do. Thank you so much for your heartfelt review to let other guests know about the unique experience to be found at our magical ranch. We’re really looking forward to your next visit and I’m already thinking of special ideas for the twins’ birthday party!
Such an amazing getaway!
My fiancé booked the Dog and Pony Ranch as a surprise birthday getaway. We have a playful GSD, so as you can imagine it can be difficult to find an amazing spot that allows pets. When I was (finally) told where we would be going, I could not have been more excited. Cyndi and Troy were AMAZING hosts. We were advised to evacuate our home the night before our trip due to the wildfires in Sonoma County and we reached out to Cyndi and Troy to see if it would be possible to come a night early. I don't think words could express how grateful we were for them allowing us to coming early. The property and hiking trails are gorgeous and the house was so cozy. I have to say, it might have been more of a vacation for our dog - he was in heaven the entire time and we could not have been more relaxed. Troy and Cyndi did not miss a beat when they designed their rental. If you are looking for a relaxing getaway with your pet - the Dog and Pony Ranch is perfect! We cannot wait to come back! Cyndi and Troy, thank you so much for being so kind to let us come early and making us feel so welcome. We will never forget it.
Billy & Ashley, we were so glad to be able to help with an extra night and hope you and your community are recovering from the horrible fires. We greatly enjoyed chatting with you, and our Lab is especially looking forward to your next visit with such a nice GSD playmate to run with along the trails!
Wonderful, relaxing get-away....
My husband and I, along with our two corgis, had a great time at the ranch. Cyndi and Troy have thought of everything - from a beautiful well stocked house with all the amenities to dog bowls, kennels, towels and treats for the dogs. The house was very clean and comfortable, the sunsets were spectacular, the trails well groomed for nice morning walks with the dogs, and the peace and quiet was restorative. We enjoyed visiting their animals too. Highly recommended!
Thanks, Charlotte! We’re glad you got to enjoy the full ranch experience including feeding the llamas, horses, and chickens. Cody was so happy that your Corgis wanted to play with him, and we’re all looking forward to your next visit!
Wonderful, warm and inviting house!
We love this house! It’s a living work of art. The beautifully done concrete floor, and the all the wonderful woodwork including the staircase, the granite in the kitchen, the woodwork on the vaulted ceilings, all of it is amazing. The house is stunning but still manages to be inviting. That’s a difficult balance to find. Oh, and on top of all that it’s perfectly suited for large dogs.
I’m so glad you open your house to renters. This was a one of a kind experience. We spent lots of time playing ping pong, foosball, and petting the horses. Our giant chocolate lab of course loved the pond.
Thank you again!
We get so frustrated by the "dog friendly" places that only permit small dogs, so designed our home and 60-acre ranch particularly for big dogs to come run & play. So glad your lucky Lab got to enjoy it -- thanks so much for sending the photos of the happy boy! And glad his people enjoyed all the things we include for human fun too ;)
When you’re ready to venture off this wonderful 60-acre property, there is even more to do within a 15-60 minute drive including uncrowded Amador County wineries, winter skiing at Kirkwood, casino and shows at Jackson Rancheria, cave exploration, golf courses, many nearby lakes and rivers, antique shopping, gold and historical sites, and much more. For a list of local activities with highlights of those that are dog-friendly, check out our DogPony.com website or the information folder in our vacation home.
