About the property

Luxurious and Romantic Getaway for People with Pets

*** 2 Bedrooms plus Loft (sleeps up to 6), 1.5 Bathrooms ***

(see 25th "photo" for video tour)

Escape to the beautiful Sierra foothills to enjoy nature from the comforts of a luxurious hilltop hideaway home with spectacular sunset views. It’s the best of both worlds with the privacy of 60 fenced rural acres (you are the ONLY guests on the property) plus the conveniences of being only a few miles from town (Pine Grove, Jackson and Sutter Creek), and below the snow pack at 2000' but a short drive to Kirkwood. The magnificent great room with dining room has lots of space for your family to enjoy including a spiral log staircase to the loft. The stone wall fireplace features a log mantle that was harvested from a dead tree on our property. The kitchen opens to the new Rec Room with adjoining patio space and outside BBQ for convenient meal prep.

The romantic master bedroom has many special features including a Cal King canopy bed, simple switch propane fireplace, and make-up vanity dressing area. The en-suite bath features a jetted deep soaking tub, double-sinks and double-shower with both rain head and handheld nozzles. The half-bath is adjacent to the 2nd bedroom / Rec Room which includes a very comfortable queen-sized sleeper sofa with a LaZ-Boy high-end foam mattress. The additional sleeping is a full-sized spring-coiled futon sofa in loft, which is ideal for kids wanting their own hideaway. Every room in the house is uncluttered with plenty of drawer/cabinet storage space for guests.

What makes our Dog & Pony Ranch so special are the features that have been designed for 4-footed family members who are not only “pets considered” but PETS WELCOMED! We chose tile and stained concrete throughout the house which is not only beautiful but also easily cleaned. Leather sofas and chairs repel dog hair and no delicate décor is below tail level. Artificial grass lawns are perfect for fetch sessions or agility training (jumps, weave, tunnel and teeter are available). There is a dog-door to our wrought iron fenced yard which provides secure fencing for pets to enjoy the top acre around the house. We’ve also field-fenced the perimeter of our 60-acre property so dogs can roam further off-leash. Miles of well-marked private hiking trails through the rolling hills (2200’ elevation) provide exciting deer, rabbit, turkey and other wildlife smells for your canines to explore with you. You can see the 6' wrought iron fence in the patio & hot tub photo with more photos and fence info on the Outdoor features page of our website. Our dogs’ favorite feature is the large 50’x70’ swimming pond complete with a dock where our dogs practice their dock diving. Yes, people can enjoy the hiking and swimming too, but we think it’s so much better with man’s best friend by your side!

For additional human entertainment, we have a big 58”flat screen TV with satellite + Blu Ray DVD player + Netflix, a 48” Smart TV in the Rec Room, and a portable MP3/bluetooth/radio stereo so you can enjoy your music in any room. There’s wireless high-speed internet (aka WiFi) and a desktop computer for guests to use. In the loft, there is a bookcase full of books, puzzles and board games. Other indoor games include a ping-pong table, foosball and dart board. Outdoor games include a regulation width/height basketball court, cornhole set, horseshoe pit, football, Frisbee golf and bocce balls to play on the lawn. What guests rave about most though is our outdoor covered patios with hot tub and comfortable seating which provide a perfect place to watch the sun set over the neighboring vineyards, and then light up the fire pit and gaze at the stars while listening to the crickets chirp.

If this sounds like the peaceful getaway you need, please contact us to make your reservation at the Dog & Pony Ranch! We have more photos and FAQ's on our website.

About Cyndi Harrell

As you probably guessed, we (Cyndi & Troy Harrell) are animal lovers and get frustrated by not having nice places we can bring our fur children. Our Dog & Pony Ranch has been an ideal solution for vacationing with our dogs and horses which is close enough to the Bay Area so we can getaway frequently. We are active in animal rescue (and also pet-therapy visits to senior centers) and have brought many of our foster dogs here who have found healing from their pasts while running off-leash and learning to become well-behaved family members. Cyndi manages the property and will respond quickly to all inquiries!

Cyndi Harrell purchased this house in 1998

Why Cyndi Harrell chose Pine Grove

We are also avid skiers and outdoor enthusiasts who fell in love with the Jackson area during years of stopping here after skiing at Kirkwood on our way back to the Bay Area (an easy weekend 3 hr drive away from Jackson). After reading the local property pages many times at Mel & Faye’s Diner, we bought this 60-acre property in 1998 as raw land and have greatly enjoyed the many year journey of developing it into our Dog & Pony Ranch. It’s in a great location with large private acreage that is still close to the conveniences of town, close to skiing and many activities, with very usable land including a perfect hilltop house site with stunning sunset views. There have been so many interesting and sometimes frustrating lessons about rural living while adding well, septic, road, power, phone, fencing, pond and recreation features, horse facilities and finally our dream home.

What makes this house unique

We love entertaining friends and family at our Dog & Pony Ranch where we put our best foot/paw/hoof forward to welcome the many people (and their pets!) visiting over the years, first camping and later in our luxury home which we opened to the public for vacation rentals starting in 2013. Many guests have commented on the peaceful quiet and restorative feeling of our country getaway, which we have found very beneficial for stress relief from our high-tech careers. Please come back and visit regularly to see how we continue to improve this special place!

Okay, I've stayed in some really awesome Airbnb's. I mean really awesome - one was perched on a cliff over looking waves crashing in a the shore below, another was nestled in the mountains of Big Sur providing a hardly believable panoramic view of the mountains. But this place is the absolute best Airbnb we have ever experienced. I mean from hot tubs, to beautifully manicured front and back, to basketball courts, ping-pong tables, to an incredible master bedroom, to two great and fully (and I mean fully) stocked kitchen with a trash compactor, to remarkable mountain views from all around the house and add to all this the house was impeccably clean, and so new the beautiful wood exterior had sap oozing from the pillars. All the appliances were brand new and top of the line and on and on and on to every last conceivable detail. All this the house, the property and the hosts, we can summarize in a single descriptive word: Spectacular! And as you would expect for anything this awesome, we only wish we could have extended our stay for a week. But alas, it was booked! If you have a choice, grab this place, it will not disappoint.

Such an amazing getaway!

  • 5 of 5

My fiancé booked the Dog and Pony Ranch as a surprise birthday getaway. We have a playful GSD, so as you can imagine it can be difficult to find an amazing spot that allows pets. When I was (finally) told where we would be going, I could not have been more excited. Cyndi and Troy were AMAZING hosts. We were advised to evacuate our home the night before our trip due to the wildfires in Sonoma County and we reached out to Cyndi and Troy to see if it would be possible to come a night early. I don't think words could express how grateful we were for them allowing us to coming early. The property and hiking trails are gorgeous and the house was so cozy. I have to say, it might have been more of a vacation for our dog - he was in heaven the entire time and we could not have been more relaxed. Troy and Cyndi did not miss a beat when they designed their rental. If you are looking for a relaxing getaway with your pet - the Dog and Pony Ranch is perfect! We cannot wait to come back! Cyndi and Troy, thank you so much for being so kind to let us come early and making us feel so welcome. We will never forget it.

Owner's Response: Billy & Ashley, we were so glad to be able to help with an extra night and hope you and your community are recovering from the horrible fires. We greatly enjoyed chatting with you, and our Lab is especially looking forward to your next visit with such a nice GSD playmate to run with along the trails!

Wonderful, relaxing get-away....

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I, along with our two corgis, had a great time at the ranch. Cyndi and Troy have thought of everything - from a beautiful well stocked house with all the amenities to dog bowls, kennels, towels and treats for the dogs. The house was very clean and comfortable, the sunsets were spectacular, the trails well groomed for nice morning walks with the dogs, and the peace and quiet was restorative. We enjoyed visiting their animals too. Highly recommended!

Wonderful, warm and inviting house!

  • 5 of 5

We love this house! It’s a living work of art. The beautifully done concrete floor, and the all the wonderful woodwork including the staircase, the granite in the kitchen, the woodwork on the vaulted ceilings, all of it is amazing. The house is stunning but still manages to be inviting. That’s a difficult balance to find. Oh, and on top of all that it’s perfectly suited for large dogs.

I’m so glad you open your house to renters. This was a one of a kind experience. We spent lots of time playing ping pong, foosball, and petting the horses. Our giant chocolate lab of course loved the pond.

Thank you again!

Owner's Response: We get so frustrated by the "dog friendly" places that only permit small dogs, so designed our home and 60-acre ranch particularly for big dogs to come run & play. So glad your lucky Lab got to enjoy it -- thanks so much for sending the photos of the happy boy! And glad his people enjoyed all the things we include for human fun too ;)

Amazing home and views!

  • 5 of 5

We loved this home so much! The house is gorgeous and the views are amazing. Everything is so well though out. I brought my boys and we never left the property. The hike around the property was a good workout and we loved the basketball court and all the fun things to do in the game room. It was such a relaxing long weekend. We are so happy that the Harrell's shared their beautiful new home!

A private, country getaway

  • 5 of 5

I am so long overdue in this review. We had the best vacation at the ranch last summer. It's a self-contained destination, if you want it to be. If you have a dog, I can't imagine a better place to play. Fully fenced yards and acreage. Trails all over the property- we absolutely loved waking up and going on leash-free walks. The house is great- comfortable, upscale and comfortable. The land is a dream. My husband and daughter loved swimming in the swimming hole every day. There was a random issue with the electric gate- the owner immediately drove hours to remedy the situation and was so kind. The owners were absolutely lovely and communicative. The little towns around the house were so fun to explore. Can't recommend this property highly enough.
