Sports & Adventure Activities
Everything was as expected or better...the pictures do not lie!
We vacationed in February. The UP was everything we had hoped for! There was wood for the fireplace and propane for the grill. Standard household items were available (towels, dishes, coffee maker, pots/pans, spices, etc.).
We rented snowmobiles from Marquette Powersports and spent a day on the well-marked snowmobile trails. We highly recommend this adventure. We also went to the Eben Ice Caves. It was a hike, but well worth it.
A very relaxing atmosphere in a beautifully constructed home.
Great home with a beautiful view.
If your are looking to get away from it all and enjoy some peace and quite, this is the place to be.
We enjoyed sitting in front of the fire place and watching the scenery. The home was very clean and warm. Dave Peyton was great to work with and responded quickly to questions.
Highly recommend this home.
Nice Cabin and Great Location
We stayed here during winter break to get out and enjoy winter activities and unplug and this property worked great for that.
The positives were the cabin is very comfortable, Kristen (the manager) met us at the gas station and drove us to the property and was available if we needed anything. She was great to communicate with. The snow was cleared very well so access was easy (wouldn't have needed 4WD to access this place but still would be recommended), there was plenty of firewood for a fire, and the property was well equipped for cooking, spices, utensils, linens, etc. We had fun playing darts, the Wi-Fi worked very well almost all the time (when we used it), there's access to Netflix and Hulu if you want it, and overall the place is great to just hang out. We also had our deposit returned in full within about a week, which is very reasonable.
The areas of improvement were the housekeeping could have been better. There were dishes in the cabinet we had to rewash because they were kind of greasy/dirty, there were some small cobwebs and looks like they had recently exterminated because there were some small bugs that were dead (probably from the cabin not being occupied as much in winter). The water filtration system worked fine, although the water is still pretty mineralized. That wasn't a problem as we are used to well water, and they even left us a gallon jug of spring water in the fridge. However, I would recommend bring an extra gallon or two for ice and for coffee.
The only other issue was the owner responded very quickly when I first sent a message asking if we could rent 3 days instead of the minimum of 4, but he never accepted our request for renting four days, even after I told him we would rent for the four days. My request expired and then it took over a week for us to be able to rebook it. We were getting close on time so I proceeded to book another place but this owner finally got the mess with VRBO fixed. When I went to check out, it asked me to verify that I agree to the owner's cancellation and rental terms. I sent him two messages requesting that information and never received a response. It is also not posted on his ad (at least at the time).
I would consider re-renting overall as long as owner is more timely in following up, responding, and take care of the nominal housekeeping items.
Exactly what we wanted
This property is exactly what we wanted. Peace and quiet in a comfortable clean cabin (house). The place is in perfect condition, and appointed with higher end furnishings and cooking equipment. Our jobs drive us crazy in these "modern" times and we wanted a place to decompress. Big Bay is not much more than an intersection and that was perfect. The cabin is spacious and comfortable. It's right on the shore and the waves lapping the rocks is like medicine for the soul. We had a couple of stormy days where the surf was crashing into the rocks which was exciting. And it so happens that there was a spectacular display of the northern lights during our stay, Something I will never forget. If you want to reconnect with yourself this is the place. Dave and Kristen couldn't have been nicer or more accommodating. 5+ stars
Beautiful Log Cabin
This is a beautiful home in a quiet location. It was very clean and well stocked with everything we needed. We really enjoyed using the fire pit in the evenings. Great for star gazing! This house comes with a large gas grill on the deck which we used a few times. And to top everything off, there is an incredible view overlooking Big Bay on Lake Superior! I will return to this fantastic home in paradise!
Gorgeous views, quiet road, and wonderful house to stay in! This house is open and has all the supplies you need. Plenty of space to tuck away your stuff so you feel like the place is your own! The water is amazing and if you want to go in - grab your water shoes - fun to play and splash in. My kids are 8 and 6 and had a blast one night when the wind picked up and the waves were huge. This house has all the accommodations you need - a full kitchen, BBQ, and plenty of space to sit around and enjoy a wonderful meal together. The fire pit outside and the fireplace inside were fantastic! We would definitely stay here again!
