Natural Setting on Quiet Lake 1 hour from Portland, Newly installed internet
Quiet location on small lake for a quiet get away or retreat - a writing, crafting, art, meditation time, or just a beautiful Maine relaxation week a few feet from the lake? What ever!!! But water sports and hiking are certainly available in the area too.
Max 2 person. Full kitchen, 3/4 bathroom with shower, front room (living and dining) overlooks Pleasant Pond. Deck with patio furniture out front door of cottage. New internet installed last year.
Cottage has 100 feet of lakefront, and is 10 steps from the clear, freshwater Maine lake with loons (and usually 2 babies!) nesting across the way. Resident great blue heron is seen quite often. I've actually seen a loon swim under our dock - very exciting to see him so close!!! Ramp to dock and stairs to water from dock, for swimming, as well as tying up kayaks or canoes, or small power boat. (Boat ramp available on other side of lake.) Swimming is refreshing, and water is clear. Fishing is available, although I'm not much help in that area.
Pond has a few power boats on the weekends, but mostly Patio boats, trolling skiffs, Kayaks and Canoes are in residence. Lake is 1 mile by 1/2 mile, with an inlet and outlet to explore, and a sand bar extends out near the middle. It is 60 ft deep just off our shore.
The cottage was totally renovated in 2019. Wood floors and knotty pine interior. A queen bed in the one bedroom, which is 'open' to the front room, with pocket doors that can be closed for privacy. Large trestle table for dining or crafting. Front of cottage is totally windows for the southern and western view of the pond , which includes exquisite sunsets (of course!!).
Access is on a well kept private road. The town of Turner is delightful, has a grocery store, a convenience store/sandwich shop, hardware, laundry, and library . The larger town of Auburn is about 15 minutes from Turner, which has more amenities as needed (larger department stores etc), including a nice artist presence. Bates College Dance festival is in full swing during mid summer. Nezinscot organic farm is 2 miles away in Turner. Turner Highlands Golf Course is up the ridge behind the cottage. Portland is about 1 hour from the cottage.. New Internet installed.

About the host
Hosted by Carol Sadler
I have retired from a career in Portland, Maine and have spent lots of my last 15 summers at the cottage next door to this rental. These 2 cottages were in my Maine ancestry, and I was recently lucky to be able to purchase this second one, and get it renovated.
Why they chose this property
Turner is a delightful small town, with an active community. July 4 parade is awesome - the whole town is there!!! Also, we had 30ish boats in the Boat Parade this 4th. Tuesday nights are folk and fiddlers at the Gazebo near the library. The lake is quiet with little boat activity, and too small for large diesel boats. I hope you will like the area as much as I do.
What makes this property unique
The sunsets are phenomenal, of course. The activity of the loons always keeps me entertained, well into the night when you can still hear their calls (what do they communicate about after dark, I wonder!) The lake is clear and refreshing. Paddling the lake is perfect!!! Turner is country-ish and out of the hubbub, but close enough to Auburn for Movies, Colleges, department stores, etc.
