About the property

Two Bedroom Cabana, Very Close To The Beach

Roatan is one of the beautiful Islas de la Bahia (Bay Islands), located off the north coast of Honduras, in the western Caribbean. Long a favorite spot of divers and snorkelers, for its crystal clear waters and vibrant coral reef, Roatan is becoming an increasingly popular and well known Caribbean holiday destination.

Our property is located in Sandy Bay, on the north coast of the island. The area is secluded and private, located well away from the tourist spots which draw the cruise shippers and partiers, but it is not isolated. Our cabana is part of a small community of houses located in a lush jungle setting, complete with mango trees and almond trees, beside a beautiful stretch of beach. It is not directly on the beach, but just a few moment's walk away. If you are looking for a quiet place to relax and enjoy, this is the spot.

Our cabana home is the bottom half of a duplex, located a stone’s throw from the beach and dock on Sundancer Lane. Completed in 2009, it has two bedrooms, one bath room, a kitchen and a living room. Since the pictures posted on this site, we have screened in the deck, which provides a good deal of additional 'bug free' living space.

There is air conditioning in the bedrooms and ceiling fans in all rooms. We have a small flat screen television in the living room and a second TV in the small bedroom, both with cable. We also have a small ipod dock. Wifi is included. We have also installed a small safe in the cabana.

While the area is quiet and secluded, it is located only a five minute drive from two grocery stores, ten minutes from West End, a nearby town catering largely to tourists and divers, and a twenty minute drive from West Bay, the most popular beach on the island. Through our property manager, you can obtain day passes for access to the Mayan Princess, a resort on West Bay, with access to their pool, beach area and parking.

Blue Island Divers is located just a minute or two away down the beach to to the east.

In addition to the numerous restaurants in West End, the “Salty Mango”, which is on the Blue Island Divers' property, is now open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. There is also a small deli, located in Lawson Rock a short walk to the west. The deli is open for breakfast and lunch. Finally, Solymar beach resort, located about a 10 minute walk down the beach to the east has restaurant facilities as well as water sports and equipment for rent.

We have access to a private, locked dock which you can use as your base for some of best snorkeling in the Caribbean, for swimming or as a shaded spot to set up a hammock and enjoy the cooling breeze coming off the water. The dock is also the perfect spot to sit back enjoy a drink at the end of the day, while watching the sun set over the Caribbean.

Our property manager, Vanessa, lives close by. Depending on when you arrive, she may be able to pick you up from the airport or arrange for transportation (price of transport included for stays of 7 days or more for weekend arrivals or departures) and will help by suggesting itineraries or assisting in arranging trips or excursions. Vanessa can also assist in arranging housekeeping, if desired, for an additional fee.

Awesome escape!

This place has it all. Central location while close enough to either coxen or west end. Steps from the beach and includes access to a private dock that gets you easy access to the ocean down a set of stairs. Covered and open spaces on the dock let's you regulate your sun exposure. The house is a comfortable size with 2 adequate bedrooms and a well stocked kitchen. There was nothing we wanted for that wasn't there. Fresh water, plenty of ice trays, and even a selection of spices. Go to the house first before the store as there were a few provisions we purchased that we didn't need to as they were already there, like coffee filters. Ample parking and a spacious screened porch with table made breakfast outside enjoyable. This place is quiet and away from the hustle and bustle of the tourist beaches, but close enough you can get there easily in minutes. We can't say enough great things about this place and look forward to checking in again soon. Thanks for allowing us in your home, as it felt very much like someone moved out for a few days so we could use the house. Not a typical condo/resort type rental. Very unique and very much worth considering for a couple or a family.

Thanks again

Great place for peace and quiet

  • 5 of 5

On our first trip to Roatan we decided to stay here and dive basically every morning for a week while spending the afternoons doing as little as possible. We made good use of the hammocks on the deck and the dock. The kitchen is really well set up (including an espresso machine!). There were a few kids around so our kids kept themselves busy playing, including jumping off the second level of the dock. The reef nearby is really great for snorkeling; we saw morays and turtles nearby. Beautiful.

Wonderful home, great location

  • 5 of 5

This was my second time in Roatan and I loved this property. There's a nice master bedroom and the second bedroom with two beds was great for my kids. We had plenty of space and the living/dining area and the kitchen had everything I could've wanted from a coffee bean grinder to all the Tupperware I needed, to a cooler and ice packs. We were here to dive and it worked out great, every day we cooked breakfast and dinner and packed lunch in the cooler. We made use of the day pass to the Mayan Princess and that was a really nice change from our other experiences. I rented a car and the place is about 10 minutes from the airport and grocery store, 15 minutes from West End. That made the location really convenient to run back to the store and our diving was in West End. The place here is less than 100 yards from the beach and we went out to the dock numerous times to relax in hammocks, watch the sunset and just enjoy the ocean. The beach here is quiet and not full of tourists.

Great place to make your base for exploring the island

  • 5 of 5

This cabana has all that you will need. The beds are comfortable. There is always hot water for showers. The fans in the bedrooms and kitchen/living room are all that we needed to keep a comfortable temperature in the cabana. We never needed to use the air conditioners. Drinking water was provided in 5 gallon plastic jugs. There is a selection of snorkel gear and flotation devices available to use as well a couple of hammocks to take down to the private dock. The main reef is a fair swim away. But between there and the dock there is plenty of coral structure and flats with turtle grass to keep the interest of any snorkeler. I saw lobster, conch, starfish, all sorts of reef fish and some baby needlefish and barracuda. I would recommend to use a boat charter to see the island from the waterside. There is not much to see from the main road except some great vistas of both north and south shores if you travel up east of the island. We used handsonfishingroatan at gmail dot com and they would pick you up as well as drop you off from the end of our private dock. We got to experience handline fishing for small tuna and barracuda as well as take in the beauty of the island all the way down to west bay and back. I would highly recommend them. We did the ziplining at Pirates of the Caribbean - that was a lot of fun also. I would suggest you note any days that cruiseships come in as they do tend to crowd the popular places and activities with their guests. So plan accordingly. Shopping is close by at Eldon's supermarkets. No point renting a car. Use the taxis and buses instead and travel with the locals. The only disappointment of the whole trip is the exit fee charged at the airport of US $46.20 per person. So for our family of 4 = $185.00 - but this has nothing to do with the accommodation. So don't be afraid, book it and enjoy your stay in Roatan.

Comfortable well located vacation cabana

  • 5 of 5

I have stayed at this cabana on 4 trips to Roatan in the last 4 years. This cabana has a screened deck on the front where you can enjoy the fresh air and breeze without any concern for bugs. The setting is absolutely peaceful and the most noise is usually from the odd torrential downpour in rainy season or the wind rustling through the trees. Air conditioning units in the 2 bedrooms readily take away any excess heat to get that perfect sleep The unit has good internet and cable TV with CNN , FOX and CBC Toronto for Canadians and all the basics to be able to adequately self-cater in a comfortable manner. Vanessa is a professional, helpful property manager living nearby who can assist you with any questions.

The Sun Dancer location in Sandy Bay provides easy access to Coxen Hole and the airport (less than 10 minute drive) where there are a couple of well stocked supermarkets. Here you can readily obtain all your grocery requirements. Certainly renting a car makes life easier but if you choose to use taxis these are also readily available by just walking up to the highway, 200yds, and are undoubtedly cheaper as long as you negotiate the fare. You will likely share with other passengers but just ensure the rate for your ride on getting in the taxi. You can eat out and get a drink at the Blue Parrott which is a small restaurant and bar on the Sun Dancer property just a 2 minute walk. A number of restaurants and dive shops are a short ride away in the West End and at West Bay on the westend of the island

If you want to relax in a hammock you can sling 2 on the deck, but better still walk down to the private gated dock and walk out to the end of the pier. Here you can put hammocks under the palapa and enjoy shade and the sea breeze. This is just a couple of minute walk from the cabana. Also, you can stroll the beach . Snorkelling from this dock is good and the sea life and reef truly spectacular.

The surroundings here are relaxing and there are no issues with safety. I rate this location as the ideal for those that do not want to be lost in crowds of tourists but you can readily have an evening out with more activity just down the road in the West End.
