Nestled within an 11-acre private desert sanctuary and sculpture park, this completely unique retreat sits directly adjacent to the breathtaking landscapes of Saguaro National Park, yet remains an easy thirty-five minute drive from downtown Tucson. Inside the cabin, futuristic retro styling meets modern convenience to offer an unforgettable lodging experience. To ensure you stay perfectly comfortable through the desert seasons, the capsule is fully equipped with efficient heating and air conditioning, alongside a high-speed, reliable wireless internet connection. While there is no dedicated indoor kitchen, we provide an excellent setup to prepare your favorite meals, including a microwave, a portable hot plate with cooking pans, a charcoal grill, an electric kettle, and a French press coffee maker, creating an experience that is truly unusual, unique, and adventurous. Your immersive desert experience continues just outside the cabin door, where your private shower, sink, and dry compost toilet are attached to the structure on a beautiful, wrap-around elevated circular deck. This serves as your personal oasis to sip your morning coffee or watch the sunset over the desert peaks. Because we deeply love, respect, and protect our natural environment, we invite our guests to join us in practicing sustainability. We provide premium plant-based body wash, shampoo, conditioner, hand soap, and dish soap for your stay. The graywater from your shower and sink directly feeds the surrounding desert trees via an underground drain system, and because water is scarce in the Arizona desert, the bathroom features a high-quality, odor-free dry compost toilet system that is incredibly clean and simple to use. The water on the property is a sustainable blend of hauled community well water and harvested rainwater, fully purified by a state-of-the-art ultraviolet filter system that kills ninety-nine percent of germs, making it completely safe and delicious to drink. Because of the highly delicate, refined, and curated nature of the interior design and art installations, we must maintain specific guidelines to protect our unique space. The Time Capsule is a strictly pet-free environment, and we cannot accept pets or emotional support animals under any circumstances. If you are traveling with an animal, we kindly invite you to book our pet-friendly property, the Groovy Glamper, instead. Legally trained service animals individually tasked to assist with a disability are always welcome, though they cannot be left unattended in the cabin at any time. Furthermore, because this property is an active art sanctuary and contains fragile items that cannot be child-proofed, the environment is entirely unsuitable, and potentially unsafe, for toddlers, children, or minors, and guests are fully responsible for any damage caused to the interior installations or curated decor. The property itself is a fully fenced, unique desert art space called The Island in Tucson. It is monitored by outdoor security cameras that we will show you upon arrival, allowing you to feel completely safe and secure throughout your stay. If you are traveling with friends or family, the Time Capsule sits fifteen yards away from the Groovy Glamper, making it easy to rent both properties simultaneously to share the vacation while maintaining individual privacy. We live on the property and are easily reachable via text message if you have any specific needs, yet our house is located 140 yards away to guarantee your absolute privacy and peace. Here, you will experience the true harmony of a beautiful semi-rural desert environment. While our neighbor’s fence is visible nearby, their actual house is located several hundred yards away. Because of this rustic setting, you will get to experience the genuine sounds of nature, occasionally hearing roosters and neighborhood dogs barking in the distance, as well as coyotes calling at night. To maintain the safety and integrity of our art sanctuary, we want to ensure you are fully aware of our unique layout and requirements before finalizing your reservation. To protect the delicate desert landscape, cars are strictly prohibited past our gated parking area, meaning you will enjoy a scenic 50 yard walk through a natural desert trail with your luggage to reach the capsule from your vehicle. Additionally, because we meet you directly at the parking area to greet you, show you around, and guide you through the eco-amenities, we enforce a strict in-person check-in policy. Arrival is strictly between 4:00PM and 10:00PM. We cannot accommodate check-ins after 10:00 in the evening under any circumstances, and we ask that you please ensure your travel arrangements or flight times align with this window before booking.
