Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 2 - 8 nights

About the property

A Stones Throw From East Beach And Dog Friendly.

Welcome to Turtle House, a unique Carroll B. Ishee designed home nestled in the woods near East Beach in Ocean Springs. With its angular roof lines, large expanses of glass, different floor levels and decks on three sides, the Turtle House invites guests to be attune to nature. The 2 bedroom, 2 bath house offers a peaceful retreat yet is close to East Beach, Gulf Islands National Seashore, USM-Gulf Coast Research Laboratory and downtown Ocean Springs, a place that has received many national accolades for its livability and beauty. With the decks and back yard, the property is secure for children and pets. The house has room to sleep 6, but plenty of interior and exterior space for entertaining, including an outdoor grill and wet bar. Located on a paved dead-end street, there is enough parking for even the Cruisers. The home is very comfortable for couples and families, and we love pets.

Why Dian Willhoite chose Ocean Springs

This is a Carroll B. Ishee house - designed by the noted Gulf Coast architect. It is a Japanese style cottage with decks on three sides. It is located in a cul de sac in a secluded part of Ocean Springs. It has an open floor plan, with large bay windows on the wooded side of the house.

What makes this cottage unique

Many people enjoy the wildlife that is visible from the house. Birds, rabbits, raccoon, and of course turtles make there appearance on a daily basis. There is a bald eagle nest within one thousand yards of the house. Numerous seabirds and coastal birds are in evidence on any normal day from the bayous, beach, and estuaries nearby. Dolphin sightings from the beach are reasonably common.

Architectural history jewel!

  • 5 of 5

Lovely private, pet- friendly abode surrounded by woods but close to the center of the Ocean Springs historical district AND the beach. Fun to stay in, all the conveniences, & a room for the kids! Whether you want to BarBQue or fix delicious seafood from the nearby dock, you can! The owner, Diane, makes you feel welcome, shares stories about the area, & explains the architectural details of this bnb. We felt welcome & enjoyed our stay. Next time, our dogs will come!!

Secluded house with fenced back yard for our dog

  • 3 of 5

The house was quiet and away from the City noises. Very hard to find the location unless instructed by property care taker.

The house was adequate but was alarmed when I killed 2 roaches and a centipede in the kitchen the first day. Beds were not very confortable and the livingroom furniture was dirty and smelled. Sorry, but will not return.

Owner's Response: These guests brought 5 dogs to the Turtle House. ( notice that they said in the review about the fenced back yard for our dog.) The 5 dogs messed and peed on the bedding. We had to discard it. Shocking. The sofas were a mess and dirty. They left without cleaning up inside the house after all the dogs. When they booked it was for 2 dogs. We are not running a kennel, just pet friendly. I think they were very surprised when I met them and saw all those dogs. They will not stay at the Turtle House again. The house is beautiful and sparking clean again after 2 days cleaning. Unbelievable.

Quaint, Cool, Relaxing

  • 4 of 5

Enjoyed the Ishee house. Loved the windows and the wrap around deck. Didn't care for the full size bed in the master. But the house is beautiful. Great location. Quiet. Nice neighborhood.

Cozy, private and everything we wanted.

  • 5 of 5

Wanted a short getaway, not too far from home where we could bring our pups. Turtle House looked like it would fill the bill and it certainly did! We cooked all our meals there and the kitchen provided everything we needed. Loved the soaking tubs. Next time we will have to explore more of Ocean Springs but this time we were content to stay put. Dian was a pleasure; she even "rescued" us from the wrong Gum Street. Don't trust Google on directions!

The property was amazing!

  • 5 of 5

We had an amazing time at the turtle house. The owner was very helpful and gave us a tour when we got there. The property had everything we needed to have a great thanksgiving with family from Texas. It’s a very private and secluded place to vacation. We will definitely be back!

The Turtle House on Gum Street is a unique property designed by Carroll B. Ishee. The house is hidden away in old Ocean Springs. It is built of glass and wood to bring nature inside. We particularly like to have people with dogs. The house has a series of terraces and a yard that dogs enjoy which are all separately enclosed for their safety. The house has two bedrooms and two baths. It sleeps six - this includes two bunkbeds and one queen size bed. The baths have Jacuzzi tubs that are wonderful. There is plenty of safe parking. Car show enthusiasts will note that there is roll in access to the gated yard and room for several cars. You will find it quiet and joyous.
