Cape San Blas consistently ranks in the Top 10 Beaches. 20 miles of Pet Friendly, uncrowded white sand beaches on a peninsula sandwiched between the Gulf Of Mexico and St. Joseph’s Bay makes this a dream vacation spot. Bring your family to experience Florida like it used to be -No High Rises here to mar your views – No crowds – just emerald green waters and unspoiled snow white beaches with sand dunes and sea oats blowing in the gulf breeze. When was the last time you built a bonfire on the beach at night or went horseback riding at sunset on the beach? Also, pets are allowed on the pet friendly beaches of Cape San Blas.

Sounds laid back but there are plenty of things to do here.

300 feet from the entrance of Barrier Dunes is a bike path that goes the entire length to the entrance of Cape San Blas (9 miles). St. Joseph’s State Park is within walking distance and has miles of white sand beaches, striking dune formations, a heavily forested interior, and a favorable climate for year-round outdoor recreation. Boat launching, picnicking, hiking trails, boating, fishing + can be found here. Also nearby is the Port St. Joe Country Club and Golf Course.

The Port St Joe marina offers scuba diving, boat rentals and sailing opportunities. Both Appalachicola and Port St. Joe offer unique shops and antiques. There are many wonderful seafood retaurants from Mexico Beach to Appalachicola.

On the Cape: 'Coneheads' offers lunch and dinner as well as great ice cream & The Best Burgers ever! 'Indian Pass Raw Bar' is a favorite with lots of local color as well as it’s great oysters and seafood. 'The Trading Post' and 'Scallop Cove' offer Groceries & most everything you might need + fresh Doughnuts. ' The Sand Bucket' is new and offers Champion BBQ which is superb!

About Jenny Richie

After living in Florida for 28 years and then moving back to Alabama, we still missed the 'toes in the sand'. We live close to the Gulf Coast and looked at our old stomping ground, Panama City. Boy, had it changed, grown up with miles and miles of high rises. Exploring we came upon 'The Forgotten Coast' and fell in love with Cape San Blas. There is enough to do but still has that laid back, forget your troubles, kind of vacation feeling.

We started vacationing here with our children and grandchildren and made many memories at the beach, boating, shelling, bonfires on the beach and just being together. That's what vacation is all about.

Jenny Richie purchased this townhome in 2013

Why Jenny Richie chose Florida Main North West

We love Barrier Dunes as it is beach side, gated and secure, beautiful landscaping with 2 pools and tennis courts as well as 3 stocked fishing ponds. It is pet friendly with pet stations all around. What more can you ask for?

A lovely place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

We were very happy with our stay at Funseeker over the Thanksgiving holiday. It is very attractively decorated, well maintained, and equipped with everything you might possibly need for a vacation week. The location is great- very close to both the pool and the beach. And we liked that it is an end unit, and that the main deck overlooks a pretty pool. We especially appreciated the beach chairs and Netflix! The fireplace is also a plus, although the weather was so beautiful, even at the end of November, that we didn't have much occasion to use it. The owners provided us with excellent information ahead of time, and were very easy to reach and helpful when we weren't sure how the brand new TV worked.

Cape San Blas is lovely, with a beautiful beach and Funseeker in Barrier Dunes is definitely a place to which we would like to return!

Another Perfect Vacation at Funseeker!

  • 5 of 5

Once again, we returned to this unit on this beach on this fabulous Cape. Honestly, this in truly Paradise! The unit is fully equipped (there's even a crockpot), and beautifully decorated. We enjoyed the garden tub this visit, and also the grill. But don't let those conveniences keep you from sampling the local fare; we adore Indian Pass Oyster Bar, as much for the atmosphere and people as the food! One night we went just to watch the karaoke "show" out front, which was great fun. The beaches and the sunsets were spectacular every single day of our stay. I saw one from a float in the water, which was a special treat! There are often dolphin frolicking, too! Cape San Blas is part of what is called the Forgotten Coast, and we hope much of the world continues to "forget" it so that it remains unspoiled and uncrowded for many years to come. This was our third trip to this unit, and we will be back. Jenny and Rodney could not have been more hospitable and easy to deal with. We left with dreams of retiring here someday! It was, and is, that special.

Beautiful Cape San Blas property

  • 4 of 5

Funseeker is a beautifully appointed unit in a quiet, gated neighborhood. The unit is not "beach front", but it is in a perfect location! Right next to a small pond (where we saw turtles), only steps from the beach front pool and the beach, and right next door to the State Park (our most favorite place to visit while in the Cape), where we were lucky enough to see dolphins playing!

The "Swamp Hole" was a unique area of the Cape that boasted good shelling, and a beautiful landscape.

The unit itself had everything we needed for our stay. We stopped at the Piggly Wiggly in Port St. Joe and picked up a few groceries and we were good to go for our weekend stay.

The only drawback for our family were the mattresses (for both bedrooms). For us, they were much, much firmer that what we are accustomed too at home. Obviously, just a matter of preference.

Cell phone service is definitely spotty at best and mostly non-existent on the Cape. The unit did have Wi-Fi, which seemed to work intermittently (not the owner's fault obviously). The neighboring unit actually had a rep from the Wi-Fi company come out and investigate during our stay because he was having issues with his Wi-Fi, so there may have been a bigger issue going on.

The development boasts a heated pool during November, I didn't get in the pools, but my hubby and kids said both of the pools were quite cold (again, nothing to do with the owner, just a side note).

Jenny was very responsive and easy to work with. They certainly have a beautiful home in a beautiful, relaxing, quiet part of Florida.

I would certainly recommend the Funseeker!

Owner's Response: Hi Yvonne, I'm glad you had everything you needed to enjoyed Funseeker! I think the one pool is heated but only when the temperature drops to a certain degree and we've had really mild weather so far.

Funseeker Tons of Fun!

  • 5 of 5

This was our second VRBO to Cape San Blas. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay this time at Funseeker. This property covers it all for you, your kids, grandkids, and dog. The condo was immaculate and offered anything and everything you would need for a wonderful trip to the beach. Jenny even provides the nicest beach towels and towels for your doggie too! The kitchen has virtually everything. The beds are very comfortable. The laundry room was larger than most with plenty of room for using the provided drying rack for your washed bathing suits. I have to mention that she also provides umbrellas, chairs, sand toys, coolers if needed for the beach. This condo is a short walk to beach access and both pools. We loved the convenience of the outside shower for bathing our dog and granddaughter after our trips to the beach. You will not go wrong choosing this condo for your stay at Cape San Blas.

Loved Cape San Blas and Funseeker!

  • 5 of 5

This was our families’ first trip to Cape San Blas although we have stayed at many other beaches on the Gulf Coast including Panama City, Destin, and the 30A; Cape San Blas was by far our favorite so far. The Cape is a very quiet beach with an awesome nature preserve located a short distance from Barrier Dunes. We rented a pontoon boat for the a day and saw dolphins, sand dollars, sea urchin, hermit and horseshoes crabs and we even caught a small shark while fishing. If your family enjoys fishing, bike riding, snorkeling and hunting for critters the Cape is for you! We also really enjoyed Barrier Dunes and Funseeker. Barrier Dunes is a smaller complex so everything is super close and convenient. We came to the Cape with friends who stayed in a nearby condo and the kids were able to run back and forth between units without us being worried about traffic since Barrier Dunes is a gated community. The pool and beach are very convenient and well maintained. Funseeker was on a small pond filled with turtles that the kids really enjoyed feeding; you could also fish in the ponds which the kids loved too! Funseeker is a wonderful, super clean two story condo with a desirable floor plan. My husband and I loved the large master retreat on the top floor with a large, well stocked bathroom and adjacent laundry room. The condo is well stocked with lots of extras including beach umbrellas, chairs, and boogie boards; it was great not having to bring these from home. There is also an enclosed outside shower with hot/cold running water which was great for the kids after the beach. Free internet access and phone service is also provided, which is important since your cell phones most likely will not work on the Cape. I can’t say enough good things about Funseeker, Barrier Dunes, and Cape San Blas.

Great family vacation rental!

  • 5 of 5

My sister and I brought our four kids (3 teenagers) for a week at this condo. We were impressed with the decor and layout, as well as how well stocked the place was. The Barrier Dunes complex is very nice and family friendly. We especially enjoyed watching and feeding the turtles in the pond and the close proximity to the beach. The kids enjoyed watching movies on Netflix after a long day at the beach. I would definitely recommend this place!
