GREEN CLEANED: This home is cleaned with natural bio-degradable products that are safe for children, and people of all ages. Every Fall we have the carpets and air ducts professionally cleaned to keep the house fresh every year for our guests. We also change out the pillows on the beds regularly to keep them fresh as well. Our mattresses are incredibly comfortable and seem brand new as we keep them regularly cleaned and protected. We do not use harsh insect repellent inside the home, and instead use spider traps that are hidden under beds and behind toilets. We also put them in the basement window seals. We do spray the outside of the home regularly. We have ceiling fans in all bedrooms to cool the summer, and a wood heat stove, forced air heat furnace and two additional heaters for winter. The house has incredible insulation and stays cozy in the winter. The stove has an overhead fan that blows the air outdoors. In fall 2017 we installed a garbage disposal, so now the kitchen has all amenities in a modern home. YAY!

About John Campbell

Hi! My name is John Campbell. My wife, Christine, and I look forward to our guests enjoying their families at our Swan Valley Family Retreat. Christine handles all of the bookings and business of the property, and I am the Mr. Handyman to keep it up. If you have any questions with your rental, you can contact Christine anytime at 208-357-8679.

We love this place. My father 'Bill' built this home in 1954. I was only 1 year old. My two sister's Linda and Francelle and I lived in the most beautiful valley in Idaho and were fortunate to have so much of mother nature's pleasantries around. My grandfather homesteaded here with a dry farm in the upper bench of Swan Valley, and my dad was born here. My wife's Aunt lived in a home behind our house and her grandmother was born here as her father owned a saw mill. So both of us absolutely love the "Family Spirit" that resides in our Swan Valley Family Retreat and valley.

Christine and I decided to share this beauty and serenity with you and your friend's and family. The home was remodeled in 2013 to accommodate 16-20 comfortably in this 5 bedroom 2 bath home. We have also had groups that included over 100 family members and were able to accommodate them all, as they brought tents, RV's and trailers. We rent two porta potties for the summer to help out.

Christine and I designed this home to keep the taste of the old fashioned charm, yet have the technology of today. The home is on over two acres which can accommodate large RV's, trailers and tents for large family reunions. The 'Cook's Kitchen' includes new appliances (including dishwasher) and plenty of everything for large meals. The large dining room has two tables that seats 16-20. You will absolutely feel much at home here at the Swan Valley Family Retreat! Swan Valley is world famous for fishing on the incredible snake river! But you must see the breathtaking Fall Creek Falls!

John Campbell purchased this house in 1954

Why John Campbell chose Swan Valley

This is a family destination, where everyone can enjoy each other in a country setting. The Swan Valley Family just that! An escape from the regular world into serenity, beauty and relaxation so family can be the main focus! My dad built a large red grainery, and with it's rustic charm, creates the best backdrop for outdoor family photos. The huge front lawn is wonderful to relax and view the mountains, and the open area behind the house is perfect for parking, games, and more! This is a family home and the nostalgia of what Bill and Rose Campbell (my parents) created here is meant to be shared. Their favorite color is RED, and you will see a lot of red throughout the house. Bill was a farmer and a mechanic. If anyone wanted anything fixed, they would bring it to Bill. His famous fix-it shop is still around just the way he left it. He was also an artist and along with a grandson, painted the side of his shop a beautiful mountain view. The house is known for it's four large picture windows where the views are incredible. Deer frequent the property in the wintertime. A big apple tree brings terrific apples every year. You will love vacationing here and making it your yearly vacation home. It is charming every day of the year!

What makes this house unique

Every outdoor amenity is within 45 minutes of the property. Some are only less then 1/2 mile. Come and stay at our Swan Valley Family Retreat and make it your yearly vacation destination! Give us a call! Christine and I will be glad to meet you!

Great place to stay for a relaxing vacation!

  • 5 of 5

I could not have asked for a better! My family and I came to swan valley for my sisters wedding at a cabin 5 min away from this one. This place was super close and convient for us and not only that, this cabin is very clean with plenty of room for a large family gathering. It also has everything you need, which makes you relax and feel like your home. Loved spending time outside on the bench and roasting marshmallow in the fire pit! The owners were fantastic to work with and made this experience very easy for us! We definitely plan to use this place again when visiting family! Thank you so much!

Owner's Response: Thank you for such a wonderful review! Our rating for you and your group would be a 5 star plus! We enjoyed your visit and especially how well everything was taken care of! Guests such as yourself help keep the rates down for everyone else! There are so few places that would accommodate larger groups, and our goal is to be a part in reconnecting families year after year with their family reunions and having the accommodations to do so. We will gladly have you and your family back again!

A little piece of heaven! Cozy, well-stocked home, close to hiking, AMAZING views!

  • 5 of 5

We could not have been happier with our choice to stay in this home in Swan Valley! The house is darling with so much character and charm. The yard was perfect for our range of kiddos (6 - 18 yrs old) with plenty of space for soccer, football, badmitten, glow-in-the-dark volleyball, etc. We took family picture right on the property -- the backgrounds are INCREDIBLE and a photographer's dream! Old barns, rustic fences, wood, etc. The house is so well-stocked ... my sister-in-law has stayed in many rentals and said this place was the most well-stocked she's ever seen. Having 2 refrigerators was such an added bonus! We walked to the corner store every night for square ice cream -- So much fun! We watched the buffalo crossing each evening. The outdoor fire pit was one of our most favorite things . . . it seated our entire family and we had "firesides" each night, roasting marshmallows, telling stories, etc. This valley is absolutely breathtaking and picturesque. We loved the covered / shaded parking. Our favorite hike was only a 15 minute drive from the house (Targhee National Forest) and has such beautiful waterfalls. Rexburg was only a short hour drive away and we toured BYU-Idaho college grounds, saw the temple, toured the city, etc. The owners of this property are amazing . . . so kind and accommodating! They made us feel like family! We cannot say enough good things about them and this property!

Wonderful location, Older Home, Great Owners

  • 4 of 5

We stayed for a week for a family reunion. Five couples and 13 children, all but one 8 and under. (Grandma and Grandpa stayed else where for their sanity.) There was enough room in the house, but not much to spare. Lots of room outside and placed to explore. (Even had an older Chinese couple from across the street exploring one morning.) Big front yard, but highway out front so watch the little ones. (There was enough room that they did not tend to go that far.) Lots of room out back. We had a few issues with basement with smells and bugs. (Owner was very responsive to this issue.) It is an older farm house after all. Kitchen was not giant, but very usable and well appointed where you need it. My only suggestion for the owner is to add an outside grill. (You don't want to cook inside during the summer.) And keep an eye on the basement. We really enjoyed our stay. Thank you.

Owner's Response: Roy, It was wonderful to have you and your group stay in our Swan Valley Home. We are glad you enjoyed your stay. One of the workers at the corner store was talking with part of your group (they mentioned they were at the Campbell's place), when they were eating square ice cream cones, and mentioned how they enjoyed it. It was nice to hear feed back through the corner store! :) We greatly appreciate your review! We do plan to have grills (notice plural since we cater to large groups), and need a safe place to put them especially when any heat could start something with dry brush, (as there have been many fires started this way). What we decided on was to put them in the large outdoor shed (covered pavilion) that has only gravel to walk on. This seems like the best place. They will be gas grills, and our guests must rent the tanks from us (so we know it was installed properly, with no leaks. It has taken us some time to decide on this, but we agree with you that grills need to be there. :) We are looking at next year. Yes, the house is over 60 years old, and it is constant care to maintain it. As for the basement, some food was left under beds in the basement prior to your visit, and not sure if that and/or the coolness attracted the bugs. We thoroughly sweep, vacuum the house, corners and windowsills before each guest and have had the exterior sprayed for insects. We also have a professional working with the basement in keeping it aired out. We are looking at getting an air return installed. In the winter, with the heat on, air is circulated nicely and there isn't any problem, but in the summer, and as cool as the basement gets, that may be the solution. (Hopefully) We advertise our home as an older country home, with no extra frills or fluff. To compensate it and the projects that we are constantly working on, we offer a wonderful rate to provide a place that can host a large number of guests with plenty of space for tents, and trailers, along with extra outdoor porta pottys, huge fire pit that seats 24 people easily, with the best mountain views in a most beautiful valley. Thank you again for your visit and review. You and your group were wonderful to have and we would love you to come back anytime. Everything was taken care of so very well.
