About Gary Wilson & Kathy Clark

After vacationing here we just couldn't resist moving, we fell in love with the area, the flora and fauna, the climate, the people and mostly all the colors of the Caribbean.

Gary Wilson & Kathy Clark purchased this apartment in 2013

Why Gary Wilson & Kathy Clark chose Cahuita

Typical realtor saying… Location location location! The coral reef right in front of our property, the ability to just walk out and stick our toes in the sand, fall asleep to the sound of the gentle waves, wake to the occasional monkey troop in the distance. The beauty here is like none other, with the tropical rainforest trees and plants, sights and sounds, not to mention the some of the tropical smells of the Ylang Ylang trees, plumeria, and white ginger. Sammie our resident juvenile sloth is always a treat to watch along with the amazing diversity and migration of birds.

What makes this apartment unique

Our first visit to Costa Rica included a stay just down the street at Arrecife, and I was instantly in love with the area. Turns out some 13 months later, we were approached about being able to buy our home, in the same neighborhood we fell in love with. Our 2 story round home has been a labor of love, being able to renovate and enjoy the area at the same time. We have 2 complete apartments, each with one bedroom, kitchenette, bathroom with shower, so 2 couples can come and have plenty of privacy, or be together in our separate community kitchen, while still enjoying vacationing together!

Tropical paradise

  • 5 of 5

This cabina should be on everyone's to do list. The setting is beautiful, the grounds in and around this place are well manicured and the beach is right there waiting for swimming snorkeling and surfing. Accomadations perfect if you like more cooking at home vs all meals out. Night life also moments away via bikes , bus or your own car. Our third trip to Costa Rica and our second stay here at "Turtle" . Plan to return next year.

Our own bit of Pura Vida!

  • 5 of 5

We couldn't have asked for a better place to stay during our time in Punta Uva. The house is simple, but with everything you could need. The kitchen is well stoked with the basic equipment, the bed is very comfortable, and the ceiling fans do a great job of keeping you cool even in the extreme tropical heat. Best of all, Gary and Kathy are wonderful hosts. They are truly welcoming and very helpful in answering any questions about the house and surrounding area we had.

A beautiful and memorable holiday

  • 4 of 5

We just got back from Costa Rica and had a wonderful holiday at Garry & Kathy's Caribbean Beach House. Garry is a fantastic host with lots of information. Unfortunately we didn't get to meet Kathy. The beach is only a few steps away, several restaurants close by and a few grocery stores. We biked almost every day. The area offers at very relaxed atmosphere with the sounds of the ocean. It has a sloth who lives in the back yard, monkeys and many birds. Thanks Garry for making our trip a memorable one.

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our time in Punta Uva. Kathy and Gary were very helpful and made our stay go more smoothly. There beach is lovely warm water, and lots of sunshine. The accommodations are all that we expected. We enjoyed the area with its refuge and the little city of Puerto Viejo is charming. Lots of animals and lovely flowers.

Fun place!

  • 5 of 5

Gary and Kathy are really cool people. They were super helpful and accommodating. Gary is a character and so are their pets! My son fell in love with them! Sloths galore! There's a lot of wildlife to be seen walking, riding your bike, or simply crossing the road in front of the property and looking up in the trees. We saw kinkachoo, howler monkeys, a large iguana and many sloths. The food in the area is really good and fresh. Arrecife serves a generous sized lobster compared to other restaurants serving a similar dish. The seafood is amazing. Just a note to help tourists: American Express is all over in signage here. Not only does the bank not deal with American Express, most shops and restaurants want cash, some accept Visa/MasterCard. Excursions booked with tourist companies also want cash.

Thank you for accommodating us at Christmas, Kathy and Gary. Big hugs!

As close to Home in a Natural Paradise as it gets

  • 5 of 5

Such a great place Gary and Cathy have built - don't know where to start. Gary's great woodwork and concrete finishes and Cathy's beautiful tile murals are great warm touches. All necessities to cook if you want, or close enough to great restaurants to eat out if you want. Clean, quiet, comfortable bed with the sound of the ocean to put you to sleep. Out the gate and across the road, Gary and Cathy's gardener keep the area to the beach well groomed and have planted new palm trees and plants - looks great. Calm water and reefs right there for snorkeling. Enjoyed our afternoons on the beach in the company of their cute little blonde dog. Gary was the most wonderful host (sad that we were unable to meet Cathy). Provided the best spots to visit - (had a fabulous time at the Jaguar Refuge Center - what a great service they provide to animals in need in the area - a must see if you visit for sure). Enjoyed supper at a couple absolutely fabulous restaurants - Stashu's Fusion and Chili Rojo - incredible meals. Such a small country, but what diversity from west to east. With all the places to pick from, to stay in the area, we lucked out by finding the BEST ONE - BY FAR!!!!!! What a great place to spend a Birthday... We will return - that is a guarantee - next time will be LONGER. Thanks again Gary.

It is a 75 step walk out to the beautiful caribbean for a little snorkeling or just around the point to the Punta Uva Dive center for some scuba or paddle boards! If you continue beyond Punta Uva to Manzanillo, you will find more beautiful beaches and Punta Mona, a sustainable farm tour. Also, heading towards Puerto Viejo, you'll find the Jaguar Rescue, a must see for a great value to learn about many of the local animals/reptiles/plants. There are many local 'soda's' or restaurants along the way to get a taste of the Caribbean flair of food. Be sure to stop in a Caribbeans to sample chocolate in the chocolate lounge, yum! In Puerto Viejo, for a great cup of coffee and sweet treats is Bread and Chocolate. If you are up for a good breakfast, Cafe Rico, and they open early for the earlybirds! Gecko Trail Adventures is an all around wealth of information to help you set up your zipline tour, excursions and adventures. If boating is your thing, dolphins, fishing, snorkeling, picnicking at a deserted cove, Wahoo Tours is for you. The area is great for down time too, if you just want to grab a book and read on the beach.
