About Gretchen Bell

We live, work, and have raised our family in Anchorage, Alaska. We have five children ranging in age from 24 to 46 and four teenage grandchildren. We are both very active in the community but not so active we can’t escape to The Big Island for a some aloha spirit.

Gretchen Bell purchased this condo in 2010

Why Gretchen Bell chose Waikoloa Village

We love the laid back aloha spirit of Hawaii. In addition, it is the most convenient tropical location for Alaskans with many direct flights year round.

We particularly love The Big Island with its variety of climate, vegetation, wonderful beaches, and many things to do.

What makes this condo unique

When we decided to buy in Hawaii, we looked at several properties. We didn’t get the same “island feeling” in the other units. The best way to describe it is the feeling of “aloha.” Walking into our condo and opening the lanai doors to the beautiful garden brings an amazing sense of peace, relaxation and anticipation of fun.

The location is perfect for exploring the beaches and towns on the sunny Kohala Coast. With the beautiful beach at A-Bay, fine dining and a variety of shops all within walking distance many needs can be met without ever having to leave the resort area. It is a haven whether you want to kick back and do nothing or venture out and do everything

The mature landscaping is amazing. The pool is salt water, heated, big enough for lap swimming and there are two fabulous hot tubs. The unit is ground floor so not having to carry groceries, or beach gear upstairs is great.

Nice resort-style condo

  • 4 of 5

Not much "native" Hawaii around here, but the beaches are the greatest, particularly in winter when Kona beaches tend to lose all their sand. The place was very comfortable for 4, and all the provided water toys and beach stuff was a nice touch. Quiet neighborhood is conducive for sleeping with doors and windows open to the cool breeze.

Attractive and quiet condo with awesome pool and jacuzzis

  • 5 of 5

We very much appreciated the use of the pack and play baby bed. We did not use air conditioning because three sliding glass doors and a screened front door gave good cross ventilation. We had a pleasant stay.

Fantastic location and well equipped!

  • 5 of 5

We loved the location in Waikolea.... very central. We also found the condo in great proximity to the pool and barbecue / fitness center. We have stayed at other VRBOs that had very few amenities. This unit came very well equipped. There were toys and provisions for our 14 month old great nephew. The kitchen was well stocked. We would definitley choose this particular unit again. Very happy!

Absolutely wonderful place to stay

  • 5 of 5

We had a little trouble with getting into the condo, but Gretchen turned some unexpected circumstances into an opportunity to take great care of us. She was immediately available and communicated easily and helpfully to get us in. She is the ideal host and the condo is the perfect Hawaii stay with pool and hot tub right out the back door and beaches, shops right down the street. We even met some really friendly neighbors who were getting back from their daily bike ride. A great spot.

Big living room, the kitchen and other parts of the home well stocked. Morning on Lanai was restful.

  • 4 of 5

The landscaping and amenities were nice. Plenty of beach equipment. Property was very quiet at night. We gave only four stars because the entry gate never worked with the code but an attendant could open gate remotely. There is also code issues with pool entry.
