We live, work, and have raised our family in Anchorage, Alaska. We have five children ranging in age from 24 to 46 and four teenage grandchildren. We are both very active in the community but not so active we can’t escape to The Big Island for a some aloha spirit.

We love the laid back aloha spirit of Hawaii. In addition, it is the most convenient tropical location for Alaskans with many direct flights year round.

We particularly love The Big Island with its variety of climate, vegetation, wonderful beaches, and many things to do.

What makes this condo unique

When we decided to buy in Hawaii, we looked at several properties. We didn’t get the same “island feeling” in the other units. The best way to describe it is the feeling of “aloha.” Walking into our condo and opening the lanai doors to the beautiful garden brings an amazing sense of peace, relaxation and anticipation of fun.

The location is perfect for exploring the beaches and towns on the sunny Kohala Coast. With the beautiful beach at A-Bay, fine dining and a variety of shops all within walking distance many needs can be met without ever having to leave the resort area. It is a haven whether you want to kick back and do nothing or venture out and do everything

The mature landscaping is amazing. The pool is salt water, heated, big enough for lap swimming and there are two fabulous hot tubs. The unit is ground floor so not having to carry groceries, or beach gear upstairs is great.

Perfect condo with everything you could possibly need!

Loved our stay at this condo! Comfy beds (we are actually about to purchase one like the master suite had). Had everything you could need for a day at the beach. Will definitely stay here again when we're back on the big island.

The property was very clean and fit our needs perfectly. Access to the pool was amazing. There was an awesome beach 6 miles called Hapuna. The property had everything thing we needed for the beach. Parking was easy and the check in process was very convenient. I would highly recommend the property to others to stay........ The owners were great to work with and answered any questions prior to arrival. Nothing but positive to say about our stay!

Exceptional Stay!

This condo is very well appointed! We were very impressed when we walked in the door. The furniture and decorations were lovely, the condo was particularly spacious, the beds were very comfortable, and the views of the garden were spectacular. The location was prefect as well to get to all of the places on the island that we wanted to explore. We would stay here again if we have the opportunity to return to Hawaii. Thank you very much for sharing your wonderful condo!

Great amenities, location

Nicely cared-for property with lots of extras, especially for those who want to eat in. The Waikoloa development is pretty, excellent for jogs or strolling. Nice coastline directly accessible by foot; excellent beaches (i.e., Hapuna) just a short drive away (15 min).

Not quite worth the price

This home is unmistakably beautiful and in a great location, both on the Kohala Coast and within the Hilton Waikoloa Village complex. The unit is ground floor and located within steps of the pool area. The interior is clean with nice furnishings.

However, I'll echo sentiments expressed by others. The master bed is rock hard despite the notes in other reviews that they were replaced after similar comments, and more than one light bulb was burned out.

The hostess emailed me on our arrival date apologizing for the fact that scheduled maintenance hadn't occurred as expected, and asking what she could do to make up for the inconvenience. There was no indication in the email, however, on what those maintenance issues were and, as we'd just arrived, I didn't know quite how to respond.

There was a note, however, at the unit indicating the water in the master shower took awhile to heat up, so to let the shower run. We tried each day, letting the water run from 5 minutes to 15, and were never able to get more than mildly lukewarm water. We were able to get hot water from the bath, washroom and kitchen faucets, however. We ended up taking baths instead.

There was also a sliding glass door that, when locked, would unlock when the door was pushed fully closed. This was especially disconcerting in a ground floor unit.

After our return, I responded to the email from the hostess, and let her know these were two key issues of safety and comfort - the minor stuff such as light bulbs were hardly worth addressing. Since she twice asked what could be done to make up for it, I asked for a 50% refund on the four days. She said she would look into it with VRBO.

Instead, she checked with the guests who booked in after us who said they found no issue with the hot water, despite a note left (by the owner? Maintenance? Housekeeping?) indicating there was an issue, and that they found no issue with the lock when pulled (not pushed as I'd mentioned). As a result, the hostess is "perplexed" and is now planning to write a review about me. She says she's never had an incident like this since renting the unit. Yet, they clearly were aware of the issues, having left the note on the hot water to begin with and sending me email apologizing for the lack of maintenance being completed. She's puzzled by the issues I mentioned; I'm puzzled why she brought it up and asked what she could do to make it better if there weren't *really* any issues.

Owner's Response: In responding to guests we normally try to remain positive and give the guest the benefit of the doubt. In this case, when a 100% refund is requested for unsubstantiated claims under the threat of a bad review, we find we have to be very clear. We also must marvel at the fact that at no time during this guests stay did they contact us with any complaints or concerns so we could address them. It was suggested that there was no hot water in the showers. On advise from VRBO we contacted guests in the unit just prior to this guest and just after. They had no problems with the hot water. Apparently hot water was available in the tub and since the tub and shower are supplied by the same by the same water pipe and heater we can only suggest that the shower lever was turned to cold instead of hot. Had we been contacted we would gladly have instructed that turning it clockwise increases water temperature. It was also stated that one of the lanai doors didn't lock properly. Again in consultation with guest before and after this stay all doors closed and locked perfectly even when pushed and pulled. We did try to inform this guest that one of our kitchen cabinet doors was out for repair and were going to offer to have our maintenance person install it during the stay. We didn't receive a response from this guest and if we had we had intended to discount the stay if maintenance and been allowed in. After the fact the guest stated they had not responded because they didn't want maintenance people riffling thru their belongings. Our maintenance crew is licensed, bonded and trustworthy. This review is the first time in 22 post stay conversations that beds are mentioned. The comfort level of beds is a highly personal matter. We had in the past received complaints about the old mattresses so in February of 2015 they were replaced with high end memory foam mattresses with cooling layers. Although a majority of our guests have found them very comfortable, I am sure some may not. We always prefer to maintain good relationships with our guests and have many who have stayed with us multiple times over the years in this case however we felt these complaints were false and declined to give this guest a refund and feel this is why they chose to write this review. On advise of VRBO/HomeAway we investigated all these claims and found them to be unsubstantiated. We also felt compelled to write a guest review so other VRBO owners were alerted to this guest.

The beach, a gourmet grocery store, Starbucks, restaurants, shopping, swimming with the dolphins, and more are all within a short walking distance.

You can visit nearby Petroglyph fields via a trail which starts at the shopping center and goes through beautiful golf courses.

A short drive away in Kona, you can swim with the manta rays, take a helicopter excursion, or experience a trilling zip-lining adventure!

On the other side of the island in Hilo, are coffee and macadamia plantations.

The Southern part of the Big Island offers views of an active volcano lava flow, lava tubes, deep sea fishing, whale watching, submarine excursions, star-gazing at Mauna Kea summit, and orchid gardens.
