About the property

Directly On Chincoteague Channel Overlooking Chincoteague Bay

The Moorings North is an unique architecturally designed luxury 5 bedroom home in the heart of Chincoteague Island, VA. The house is elegantly decorated and has mesmerizing panoramic views of Chincoteague Bay. It is conveniently located in walking distance to small shops, a coffee house, and restaurants.

This upscale home is an ideal waterfront vacation spot for families as well as for couples who are seeking a romantic getaway.

Be our guest at Moorings North and enjoy your vacation in a beautiful setting with nearby award winning beaches and wildlife refuges.

Two-story porches grace the front of this dynamic house custom designed for your comfort by local architectural designer Richard Vesely. You will enter a tiled, light filled two-and-a-half story high entrance hall with a grand staircase, and French chandelier. Ascending the stairs, you’ll be delighted along the way by the views to the water from three towering windows, or take the convenient windowed elevator to the living level on the upper floor.

With the reverse floor plan the upper level is the main living level including the great room with beverage bar, kitchen, master bedroom, and a full bathroom.

Arriving in the great room, you’re sure to notice the ravishing Brazilian Tigerwood flooring, but your eye (and your heart) will quickly be drawn to what you’re here for: a wall of nine windows will open up sweeping views of sun-diamonds dancing on the sparkling waters of Chincoteague Bay. Stunning, simply stunning!

The great room is combined with the dining area and an open concept luxury kitchen, which invites you to entertain yourself, your family and your friends. The towering cathedral ceiling in the great room will give you a sense of space and open feeling on hot summer days as well as a cozy atmosphere by the gas fireplace during your relaxing winter vacation. You’ll enjoy preparing locally caught seafood in the fully appointed gourmet kitchen. Two ovens, warming drawer, microwave, dishwasher, granite counter tops and more are waiting for you. While some gather around the large screen plasma TV on the fireplace wall, one or two may prepare drinks at the Carrara marble beverage center.

The spacious tile-floored kitchen with its cherry cabinets and granite counter tops is sure to be a popular spot to entertain. There is plenty of room to pitch-in for cocktail and canapé, or prepare a delicious supper of fresh seafood purchased at the town dock.

Everyone will gravitate to the welcoming French country dining table centered under the gentle glow of the Provincial iron chandelier. Notice, too, how the dining area floor of Mexican Travertine is set into the hardwood flooring.

While the house has two climate control systems, there will be days when you will want to open the French doors leading from the dining area to the columned, covered Gazebo-in-The-Sky: outdoor relaxation sublime high above the sparkling waters. Here, it’s likely you will linger (probably everyday) while the sky turns indescribable shades of magenta and crimson-orange as the timeless sun descends into the welcoming bay. In this amazing outdoor living space you’ll find a gas grill to bring even your cooking outdoors.

Up an intriguing spiral stair from the Main Level is the Tower-Hide-Away with two additional twin beds, just right for the young, and the young-at-heart. The view from the highest point of the house over the waters are indeed again breathtaking. Tower guests shares bath on Main Level.

At the end of your day on Assateague Island’s pristine ocean beach (or perhaps you climbed to the top of the lighthouse?) you’ll be ready to enjoy a great night’s rest in your private quarters on the Lower Level. Because there are two richly carpeted master suites, each equally tasteful decorated rooms with king-size bed, granite top make-up vanity, walk in closet, full tiled bathroom with separate tub, and walk in shower, perhaps there won’t be any trouble over ‘who-gets-to-sleep-where’.

A word about the bathrooms: one has a large Kohler soaking tub, the other one has a Kohler whirlpool tub for two. Did we mention that each of these suites has a private balcony over the water?

On this level there’s a room with two twin beds, and an ensuite bath with water view window in the shower.

As many of the houses on the coastline Moorings North is elevated, which will give you extra storage space on a partially enclosed ground level as well as a Weber charcoal grill and direct water access. Tie your up to 65’ long boat up in deep water at our bulk-headed dock right there. Catch your all time fresh crabs and fish right from the dock. How much fun will it be for children and grown-ups to provide your seafood dinner right from the water in front of your vacation residence? You hardly want to leave your vacation spot right on the water of Chincoteague Channel, but in case you would like to spend a day at the beach, we’ll provide beach chairs, sun umbrella and boogie boards for you. When you come back from a beautiful day on the beach, enjoy the convenience of an outdoor shower. From the ground level there is an elevator entrance handy for handling luggage and bringing in the groceries. This elevator makes all floors handicapped accessible.

Still some energy left? Take one of the bikes and explore the many attractions Chincoteague Island has to offer.

We will do whatever is in our hands to make your vacation time at Moorings North exceptional, comfortable, and unforgettable. We welcome you to our well-loved home on Chincoteague Island!

About Claudia and Claus Grill

After a couple of visits to the island we absolutely fell in love with Chincoteague. We, the 'Grill-Family', were always looking for beautiful relaxing locations, to spend time with the kids on the beach, at the same time having the most quiet and friendly environment to reenergize from our busy life. We found it with Chincoteague Island and were entranced with the beauty, the 'million dollar views' and the friendliness of the people on this island.

So when we started looking for houses, we did it with a spirit of it being our second home and not a business investment primarily. We have very high standards of excellence and customer satisfaction with an overarching desire to make our guests feel like home. We believe in the importance of personal touch and caring in all we do. That's why we also decided to manage the property personally, knowing the local staff maintaining the house and being in direct contact with our guests. The Moorings North was the perfect fit for us: Beautifully furnished with unbelievable views, luxurious look & feel. We are committed to constantly further upgrading this already beautiful high end home and are proud to share it with you.

The property has everything you could ever need for a beach vacation.

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed the bay views from all levels of the house. The expanse of window allows for this great view even when inside the house. The bedroom balconies and windows allowed for bay view even from the bed. The firepit area was an awesome spot to watch the shore birds come in to roost for the night. Having beach chairs, sand toys, bikes, helmets, gas grill was all great so we didn't have to have those items take up space in our vehicle since we were traveling with a baby and had all those necessary items. The house was first class with beautiful flooring, chandeliers, fireplace, Wi-Fi, beverage area with wine openers and stoppers. We particularly liked the dining room with the expense bay view. We would definitely consider returning to this property for a future vacation and will recommend it to our friends. Another nice feature is all the bedrooms are like suites with ample private space for dressing rooms, makeup area, bathing, etc. We also liked the beach theme with the wall art and the personal touch of Moorings North with the coffee mugs and the welcome basket. The outdoor shower is a nice feature when returning from the beach. And the elevator is definitely a lifesaver. The location of this property allows for great walking to downtown and the shopping district, restaurants and parks.

Family Vacation for Pony Penning

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful spot for our every-other-year family vacation. Gorgeous, welcoming home! The en-suite rooms were perfect for our three daughters and their spouses and young kids. Our two older grandkids loved the third floor loft. Great place with mooring lines for our new boat and a quick ride to the pony swims which I last saw 53 years ago as a small child. A magical week!

Perfect Week at Moorings North

  • 5 of 5

Excellent week. Short ride to the beach and short walk/bike ride to downtown restaurants. Short walk to the corner coffee shop. Very usable indoor and outdoor spaces. Our grandson learned to cast from the beautiful dock. The layout of the home provided ample space for our four families to gather and the bedroom/bathroom suites assured enough space for all to be comfortable. We greatly appreciated the elevator! We used the gas grill on several occasions and dined on the upper porch many times. Mother Nature provided exceptional weather and a nest full of baby birds to check on each day--a favorite activity of our 5-year-old grandson. Owners are very cooperative and hospitable!

A Gem on Chincoteague Island

  • 5 of 5

Our week at Moorings North could not have been better. Not only is the setting of the house perfect, the décor is beautiful also. We were able to walk downtown or to the local ice cream shops. Sunsets are beautiful. The amenities of the house are fantastic. The Gril family did not forget anything to make our planning/arrival/stay/departure seamless. We felt it was a very “welcoming “house the minute we walked through the door. Simple things like night lights (beach theme, of course) in the bathrooms, small signs around the house to direct you to the right light switches or to tell you lights are on timers, and detergents in the kitchen and laundry room all made us feel at home. The baby gates and Pack and Play also made packing lighter and made us feel it is a house for all generations. Cleanliness is obviously very important because the house was spotless when we arrived. Moorings North is a gem on the island.

Wonderful home!

  • 4 of 5

We were traveling with three disabled adults, and this home was wonderful! A big kitchen, three king sized beds, a beautiful private outdoor space, an elevator....and all the toys you'll u need for a beach adventure on hand! This house has a wonderful fire pit, a fire place, bikes, beach chairs...and the views were amazing! My grandmother sat by the window every morning and watched the birds on the channel.

My only was listed as handicapped accessible and it WAS...except in the bathrooms. No handrails or grab bars had been installed, and though they do have an available shower chair my mother in law, aged 80 and cane dependent, was nervous about showering. Please look into this, and this house will be absolutely perfect!
