My 10 yr old grandson's reaction was, "Grama, this place is amazing. You hit the jackpot!!"

  • 5 of 5

We had the perfect family reunion at the Yellow Bay Retreat. There was 14 of us ranging in ages of 10 to 61. The house is so spacious that we never felt we were crowded or under each other's feet. The 3 levels had enough room for everyone to have their own bed and space. The mattresses were comfortable and the fluffy comforters added to a good night's sleep. The bedrooms downstairs each had a door going to the outside which was so convenient. The 4 1/2 bathrooms made it easy for every one to have time and space to get ready. The jetted tub in the master bath was a wonderful way to relax after a day on the lake. The kitchen was well stocked with a pantry full of spices and even flour and sugar. We were all able to gather in the kitchen to fix meals together and then the large farm table and 4 bar stools allowed us all to eat together.

We made good use of both decks, often sitting out there in the early morning or late evening enjoying the sound of wildlife and the sunset. There was an osprey nest in the tree next to the house and we enjoyed watching the mother feed her babies. We filled up the hummingbird feeder and had 2 regular hummingbirds visit everyday.

Flathead Lake is the most amazing lake in the West. (we are a little prejudice as we are Montana natives and lived not far from here for many years.) The water was so clear and warm. We rented jet skis one day and a boat another day. The dock was convenient for these activities. It was also fun for running to the end and jumping into the lake. Evenings we would build a campfire in the provided fire pit and enjoy hot dogs, s'mores, singing and storytelling.

We didn't watch much TV, however, we did use it for a couple movies and reviewing videos we had made. It would have made it more enjoyable if the TV could be mounted on the wall and maybe some additional seating so everyone could see and be comfortable. Not a biggie, just a suggestion.

I can't say enough good things about this property. Shannon was a pleasure to work with and was always so quick in answering back.

Our week stay provided a lifetime of memories to look back on and we will remember our wonderful stay at Yellow Bay Retreat for years to come. I don't know when we will all be able to get together again, but when we do, this will be the place we will gather.

Great place for the whole family!

  • 5 of 5

It was wonderful having the whole family able to stay here. Plenty of rooms and beds. I love the house layout, and access to the lake. Very kid friendly. Shannon was excellent to work with! Made our vacation very memorable being able to have everyone stay together and still close to many activities! Loved it!

Yellow Bay Vacay!

  • 4 of 5

This house is probably one of the best locations on Flathead Lake. Yellow Bay is a family favorite of ours and this is the second time I've enjoyed this house. There is tons of space so everyone can spread out and enjoy themselves! We had 2 babies in our group so the three downstairs bedrooms with their own baths were perfect for our situation. The only reason I gave this house 4 stars instead of 5 is that some of the items seemed rather low end for the price we paid ($750/night w/taxes and other fees). There wasn't quite enough flatware to get through more than one meal, none of the plates or mugs matched, the towels were well worn, etc. However, it had all the kitchen gadgets and appliances one would need to make meals.

This issue is not a deal breaker, and my family will consider renting this house again, but when you think of amenities you might see in a hotel at this price point, you expect higher quality kitchen and bath items. Again, the location is AMAZING and this house is a great size to accommodate a large group!

Owner's Response: Thanks Anna for your input. I think new towels and some additional flatware is a great idea! I'm so glad you enjoyed your stay. We hope to see you again next time! Shannon

Perfect lake house for the entire family!

  • 5 of 5

This house was absolutely perfect for our family vacation! The house has almost everything you will need. The 3 bedrooms in the daylight basement each have a bathroom and 3 separate entrances to the house and the lake. The main level not only has a terrific view of the lake, but a large open kitchen and large dining room table that seats at least 10. The laundry facilities were on the main level and very nice. We brought our boat and launched at Yellow Bay State Park. We would definitely stay again.

A perfect family reunion getaway.

  • 5 of 5

It was a grandma's dream vacation for a family of 12, ages 7-68. Clean and spacious it has a well-stocked kitchen with large inside eating area, plenty of beds and those necessary bathrooms. The neighbors were wonderful and Shannon (the property manager) couldn't have been more helpful and accommodating. To attract other boating families, the dock does need a boat lift for windy weather. We had to make arrangements for our boat in Wood's Bay. I can't say enough about the sunsets on the water. If you are lucky enough to live on the water, you are lucky enough. I got to be lucky for a week. Thank you.

The name Bigfork is derived from the Salish name for the area. There are reports of a homestead and orchard immediately north of Bigfork as early as 1885. Everit L. Sliter set out 500 apple, cherry, plum and pear trees in 1892 on Flathead Lake’s east shore. In 1902. he platted the Bigfork townsite at the mouth of the Swan River. The east shore has since become a major cherry growing area. Wayfarers State Park lies just south of town.(Copyright 2009, Montana Historical Society: Montana Place Names from Alzada to Zortman, Montana Historical Society Research Center Staff).

Bigfork has been distinctly honored with designations in the following publications: The 50 Great Towns in the West, 100 Best Small Art Towns, The Great Towns of America, and National Geographic Guide to Small Towns Escapes. Bigfork is an exceptionally lovely, upscale, year-round resort village that is brimming with art galleries, fine restaurants, golf, high-end boutiques, and live theater.
