The Great Smoky Mountains are now a second home to us. Something we have always dreamed of. When we hike these mountains, our hearts tune in to the essence of the Love of God. The serene forests, the beautiful waterfalls, and views from the top of the world have brought us closer to God and has shown us the 'peace that surpasses understanding' when we are in these beautiful mountains. We have tried to channel that peace through our blessing from God we call Free Spirit. It is our greatest desire to share that peace with our guests through the spiritual theme of our cabin. God's love flows more freely through a vessel open to receive his love. We hope Free Spirit can assist in your quest to find His Peace, His Joy and His Love.

Perfect Girls Retreat!

  • 5 of 5

This weekend was a "Girls Retreat" for five co-workers. From the moment we walked in the door we felt like we were home. The cabin is beautifully decorated, down to the Christmas tree by the fireplace. (and each little nook had adorable moose -- including a moose nativity scene on the mantle!) We stopped at the grocery store recommended by the owner to shop for groceries (less crowded than the ones in downtown Sevierville or Pigeon Forge) and prepared our suppers/breakfast in the kitchen that had all the essential cooking utensils. Snow was falling and it was dark when we arrived, so we were a little apprehensive driving up the last road to the cabin, which was pretty steep and included a narrow switchback, but I had no problem as long as I kept it steady. The roads are well-maintained. A snow plow even drove by the next morning, which surprised us a little, all the way up on the mountain. Our time was mostly spent between the kitchen table eating/playing games and fellowshipping around the fireplace. Detailed instructions were available for everything from the wifi to the hot tub. The king bed downstairs was very cozy and comfortable, I can vouch for that, and I hear the queen poster bed upstairs was the same. The cabin was spotless and we didn't see one cobweb. Believe me, we tried, just so we could make the statement that it was spotless. It was close enough to make a little jaunt into Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg, but far enough away to enjoy the quiet solitude of the mountains. Too bad it was just cold enough to keep us out of the hot tub this weekend. I cannot think of anything that we would change. We are already planning our next girls retreat to come up here again! Great communication with the owners.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your great review of Free Spirit! We are at the cabin now and also read your entry into our journal. We are jealous you got the snow and we are getting the cold. But we are glad you made it up safely and were able to enjoy the snow. It was so good to hear such pleasant things about Free Spirit. It is our way to share our love of these mountains with those who want to see them in a safe and comfortable place, without worries. Thanks again and hope to see you back again.

a charming, peaceful retreat!!

  • 5 of 5

The "Free Spirit" cabin is the perfect place to stay in the Smokies. It's close to Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, yet off the beaten path enough to be private and peaceful. Very nicely stocked and decorated. Extra amenities like upstairs game room, hot tub on back deck, furnished front porch, furnished upper bedroom porch, stereo system, weather radio, several nice tvs with cable and Roku services. We celebrated our 25th anniversary here and look forward to going back here every chance we get!

Owner's Response: We are so glad you enjoyed your 25th Anniversary in our cabin. Free Spirit gives us a chance to be a part of those special times. And yes, we love being "close to everything and every place". But our favorite is the 20 minute bypass straight to the Great Smoky Mountains. Thank you for your stay and hope to see you back on your 26th.

About Roger and Donna Shipley

God has blessed us with our lifelong dream of having a place of our own in the mountains to enjoy His creation. Free Spirit Cabin is the perfect place to quiet your soul and free your spirit to experience all the beauty of nature and the serenity that it holds. We are so happy to be able to share this peaceful place with you.

Roger and Donna Shipley purchased this cabin in 2012

Why Roger and Donna Shipley chose Sevierville

Free Spirit is located on the summit of a ridge line which has a unique quality of it's own. On the ridge, it is quiet most of the time. There is usually a breeze blowing through the trees in the forest surrounding the open deck. After a good rain, a waterfall down below will sound off to provide a tranquil departure from the usual quiet. At night the sky opens up from the deck for star gazing. And in the morning the birds call for meditating in quiet solitude. All this preparing you for a inspirational hike in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park just a short distance away.

What makes this cabin unique

The access to Free Spirit Cabin is only three steps up to the deck from the driveway.

The capacity of 5-6 people includes a king bed downstairs, queen bed upstairs, and futon in the loft. Each bedroom has it's own jacuzzi tub and full bathroom with shower/tub.

Sky Harbor is conveniently located between Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge making both within just a few minutes drive. Dollywood is so close you can occasionally hear the train whistle from the locomotive. There is also a back way to Dollywood, Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg, the Arts and Crafts Community and a bypass to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park from Sky Harbor to avoid heavy traffic. Our laminated map shows how to get to both places and a few other shortcuts and bypasses around the area.
