About Roger and Donna Shipley
God has blessed us with our lifelong dream of having a place of our own in the mountains to enjoy His creation. Free Spirit Cabin is the perfect place to quiet your soul and free your spirit to experience all the beauty of nature and the serenity that it holds. We are so happy to be able to share this peaceful place with you.

Why Roger and Donna Shipley chose Sevierville
Free Spirit is located on the summit of a ridge line which has a unique quality of it's own. On the ridge, it is quiet most of the time. There is usually a breeze blowing through the trees in the forest surrounding the open deck. After a good rain, a waterfall down below will sound off to provide a tranquil departure from the usual quiet. At night the sky opens up from the deck for star gazing. And in the morning the birds call for meditating in quiet solitude. All this preparing you for a inspirational hike in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park just a short distance away.
What makes this Cabin unique
The access to Free Spirit Cabin is only three steps up to the deck from the driveway. The capacity of 5-6 people includes a king bed downstairs, queen bed upstairs, and futon in the loft. Each bedroom has it's own jacuzzi tub and full bathroom with shower/tub. Sky Harbor is conveniently located between Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge making both within just a few minutes drive. Dollywood is so close you can occasionally hear the train whistle from the locomotive. There is also a back way to Dollywood, Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg, the Arts and Crafts Community and a bypass to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park from Sky Harbor to avoid heavy traffic. Our laminated map shows how to get to both places and a few other shortcuts and bypasses around the area.

Nice cabin, well placed near Gatlinburg
We just finished a great stay at Free Spirit. The cabin is in a great location between Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge. We were able to get to zip lining, the aquarium, horseback riding, and geocaching during our stay without long drives. In the cabin, we enjoyed the hot tub, the pool table, and TV / Roku. We were able to cook all our meals in the cabin to save money. The owner was extremely responsive to questions. Highly recommended.
Perfect mountain retreat
We absolutely loved Free Spirit. It was very comfy and peaceful. The cabin was very well equipped and the beds were very comfortable. A perfect location for visiting the Great Smoky Mountains, very centrally located.
Thank you for your pleasant review of our cabin. We really try to make Free Spirit as comfortable and accommodating as possible for our guests. We love to hear from our them that goal was achieved.
The central location was one big factor when we decided to take the plunge into cabin ownership.
Thanks again and we hope to see you back some day.
Very nice cabin! Very clean, no issues or concerns!
We enjoyed the cabin, we wish we could have stayed longer and enjoyed it a little bit more. Everything you need if you’re a small family. Can’t wait to visit again!!!!
Thank you so much for your kind review of our cabin. It is a perfect home for a small family. We love to hear about great family time spent in Free Spirit. Thanks again for your stay and look forward to the next one.
My family enjoyed every single minute of being here! It was beautiful and as far as I'm concerned, photos don't do this home Justice. Family is what it was all about and we will forever be thankful for the time we spent at your home. Thank you very much!
Thank you so much for your very nice review of our cabin. We love for our guests to think of our home as theirs during their stay. We hope you were able to spend time in the Smokies and had the chance to see God's creation.

The cabin was beautiful, really could not have asked for any more. The location was great. Just a wonderful experience overall. Hope to stay there again

Perfect Girls Retreat!
This weekend was a "Girls Retreat" for five co-workers. From the moment we walked in the door we felt like we were home. The cabin is beautifully decorated, down to the Christmas tree by the fireplace. (and each little nook had adorable moose -- including a moose nativity scene on the mantle!) We stopped at the grocery store recommended by the owner to shop for groceries (less crowded than the ones in downtown Sevierville or Pigeon Forge) and prepared our suppers/breakfast in the kitchen that had all the essential cooking utensils. Snow was falling and it was dark when we arrived, so we were a little apprehensive driving up the last road to the cabin, which was pretty steep and included a narrow switchback, but I had no problem as long as I kept it steady. The roads are well-maintained. A snow plow even drove by the next morning, which surprised us a little, all the way up on the mountain. Our time was mostly spent between the kitchen table eating/playing games and fellowshipping around the fireplace. Detailed instructions were available for everything from the wifi to the hot tub. The king bed downstairs was very cozy and comfortable, I can vouch for that, and I hear the queen poster bed upstairs was the same. The cabin was spotless and we didn't see one cobweb. Believe me, we tried, just so we could make the statement that it was spotless. It was close enough to make a little jaunt into Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg, but far enough away to enjoy the quiet solitude of the mountains. Too bad it was just cold enough to keep us out of the hot tub this weekend. I cannot think of anything that we would change. We are already planning our next girls retreat to come up here again! Great communication with the owners.
Thank you so much for your great review of Free Spirit! We are at the cabin now and also read your entry into our journal. We are jealous you got the snow and we are getting the cold. But we are glad you made it up safely and were able to enjoy the snow. It was so good to hear such pleasant things about Free Spirit. It is our way to share our love of these mountains with those who want to see them in a safe and comfortable place, without worries. Thanks again and hope to see you back again.
