About Cathy Thicke
We bought our house in 1989, and began doing Bed and Breakfast in Tofino in 1990, as one of only 5 homes to do so. In 1998 we converted the main floor of the large house into a private vacation rental suite, allowing guests to share our experience of living 'on the beach'. My husband works at the hospital in Tofino, as a physician, and I serve on the District of Tofino Council, Tonquin Trail Committee, and the Clayoquot Biosphere Trust.
Cathy Thicke purchased this House in 1989
Why Cathy Thicke chose Tofino
We chose this property for its 1.3 acre south and west facing beachfront, and its proximity to town and the local hospital! It is a very unique property, with two beaches, hiking trail, great kayaking, 'supping' opportunities, whale watching, breath-taking sunsets, and the best low tide viewing on the Tofino coastline. You can even surf on Tonquin Beach in the winter! The sunsets here are sublime!
What makes this House unique
Beach walking and the new Tonquin Trail through old growth rainforest and sandy beaches, SUP-ing, kayaking, fishing from beach ( June to September ), whale watching from the beach in front, surfing, storm-watching, trampoline on property, and wonderful food- Tofino has many Canadian culinary delights ! ( Sobo, Tacofino and Shelter are our favourites!)
Please consider the following guidelines when booking this property:

On the Beach
We had a wonderful stay at this location! From the location to the comfortable beds and linens. There are two different oceanfront views and our own beach!
thanks for staying with us! glad you enjoyed it.
The owners are very helpful, friendly and non-obtrusive. The property is heavenly. What a wonderful few days. We will be back for sure. Thanks so much!
Lovely to have you stay! Thank you !
We had a great time, and Cathy was very helpful.
The house was awesome and the view outstanding. Although we had too brief a visit we enjoyed the property.
Fabulous house and great beach access, close to town.
Lovely in all ways
Really loved this huge ground floor of a house, on the best private beach very close to the town of Tofino. Fireplace indoors and fire pit just above the beach! Bedrooms are great and everything you could need is in the kitchen - we cooked 4 large dinners and were never stumped for what utensils or pans to use. Be aware there are lots of stairs from the parking area down to the house entrance, and again from the house to the beach, so not suitable for the elderly or for young unsupervised children. Otherwise it’s a superb choice!
A wonderful spot and accommodation. We were fortunate to have wonderful weather andbe able to enjoy the beautiful evenings outside around the firepit. The place had everything we needed and was spacious and cosy. Thanks Cathy for the great communication.
Thanks Lucy - nice to have you stay!
Tofino is a beautiful small town on the west coast of Vancouver Island. It is known as the Surf Capital of Canada, with the average age of 36! Tofino is in the midst of the Clayoquot Biosphere Reserve, a world -reknowned UNESCO designation. There are less than 600 Biosphere Reserves in the world and 16 are located in Canada. Tofino is adjacent to the Pacific Rim National Park, Provincial Parks, Tribal Parks, and in a World reknowned shorebird flyway. Tonquin Beach, a municipal park is adjacent to the house. The Tonquin Trail is at the top of the driveway, 2 kilometer trail, with spectacular views over the Clayoquot Sound Biosphere, and the wreck of the Tonquin ( 45 min. round trip). At low tides, Tonquin Beach is the best beach in the area for tidal pool viewing. Whales, eagles, and fish abound and may be seen from the sundeck or beach in the spring and summer. Tofino is the best place to learn to surf in Canada ! There are many stores providing lessons, with Surf Sister generally thought to be the best. Whale watching or bear watching by boat is also an option, with Remote Passages offering family packages. Sobo restaurant, only 1 km. away offers very healthy food at affordable prices ( child friendly menu), and the best margaritas in Canada! There is bear watching, sport fishing, hiking, beaches galore, stand up paddle boarding, kayaking, and culinary delights in this small jewel of a town.
