Guestbook comments from the manager

WE had a wonderful time! Your cabin is great, especially that screened-in porch. We will definitely be back! The TV really wasn't a big issue, there was so much to see and do. Thank you for the offer of a free night. We will take you up on it. Again, your property is just wonderful!

An Upscale Cabin Near Countless Outdoor Activities

  • 5 of 5

This home was the absolutely perfect place to stay while vacationing around Mentone and Fort Payne. The cabin was incredibly clean and beautiful. It also provided all of the creature comforts you would want, including a full kitchen, a flat screen TV with satellite cable, Wi-Fi, exceptionally comfortable furniture, lots of hot water, powerful air conditioning, ceiling fans, ambient lighting, and so much more. Plus, the house is near parks where you can take in the gorgeous views from different outlooks, hike a wide variety of trails, rock climb, and swim. When staying at this cabin, you're also really close to fun eateries like Wildflower Cafe. If you are looking for a quiet and upscale place to stay during your mountain trip, I highly recommend staying at this home.

Relaxing in Mentone

  • 5 of 5

Had a wonderful time in Mentone this weekend with friends. Our cabin was delightful! Clean, comfortable and peaceful. Just what we needed. Sitting on the porch with a blazing fire was perfect after all the Thanksgiving cooking. The cabin is close to everything so we got to tour little river canyon. Spectacular natural beauty. Can't wait to visit again.

Perfect weekend away

  • 5 of 5

This was our 3rd stay at this cabin & it will not be the last. My husband & I like to get away for a weekend for our anniversary each year & this has become our favorite spot! Love the well-stocked cabin, the proximity to good food & that fireplace on the screened in porch is my happy place. We'll be back!

In town but in touch with nature

  • 4 of 5

We were very happy with our choice. Set up nicely for privacy. We each had our own bed and bath. Location worked for us. The highlight is a huge porch at back of house. Trees and nature right out the screened in area. The loft area was spacious and comfortable. Downstairs bedroom was also comfortable. Washer and dryer as well as WI-FI were bonus.

A little difficult to find first time. That is probably a plus because it was very private.

Little details that would move this to 5 stars

-No bath soap

-Toilet paper not best quality

-We found a skillet that had been put away dirty

Owner's Response: Sheila, thank you for your feedback. It sounds like you had a nice stay at the home. Some feedback for other guests reading this review to help put things in perspective: Most of these points are “petty” and none were brought to our attn before this guest leaving their review 1) Supplying bath soap for home - Our listing clearly states this is not supplied for guests and so does the VRBO Hospitality app for guests who use this to familiarize themselves with the home. We are a vacation rental home, not a hotel. We have considered supplying this in the past but ultimately, the type of soap supplied may/may not be suitable for certain guests who have skin allergies to certain types of soap. As such, the decision was made not to supply soap and guests furnish their own. 2). Toilet paper - the home is on a septic system. As such, the most comfortable, softest toilet paper can’t be used as it is not conducive to a septic tank (only homes on sewer systems). We try to supply the highest quality of septic safe toilet paper available, that being said, no septic safe toilet paper will be as good as toilet paper made for sewer systems. 3). Skillet put away dirty - It is the responsibility of all our guests to place all items they used for cooking and eating into the dishwasher and run it prior to checking out of the home. If we had a prior guest who washed cookware and put it back into the kitchen cabinets and it was not totally clean, this is not the fault of our housekeeper. It is not the housekeepers job to clean dishes and inspect every piece of cookware, silverware, glassware, etc., prior to the next guest checking in (we have a lot of back-to-back rentals, guests checking out early in the day and checking in late afternoon). This piece of feedback I believe is completely unrealistic given the accountability for keeping the home clean by our guests versus what our housekeeper is require to perform. Final note - Our housekeeper is one of the best in the business and pretty much “deep cleans” the home after each guests checks out. Again, I feel it is unfair to leave feedback indicating it is somehow her or our responsibility to inspect every item in the kitchen prior to the next guest arriving which is typically within 5 hours time from when the prior guest checks out. I hope this review doesn’t dissuade other potential guests from choosing not to use our home for a potential stay in Mentone. Owner - Greg Sippel

We brought bikes and could easily bike to Mentone on back road away from traffic. River is just across the road. It was all good.
