Welcome to Tybee Island! I am a proud native Savannah-ian! Savannah and Tybee Island have grown and changed a lot over the years, all for the better! When I was a kid, they called this Savannah Beach! When my mom was younger, they held dances on the pavilion, which has since burned and has now been replaced by the Tybee Pier and Pavilion. Savannah was established in 1733, so there is much history to be found in our beautiful downtown too! I am continuing the family tradition with my wife and two sons (8 and 17 months) by ensuring they enjoy the benefits of coastal living too. The photo of me and my son were taken on the Back River at Tybee.
Jimmy Edwards purchased this condo in 2004
We purchased this property as a second home and investment property in 2004. We began renting the Tybee Island Pelican Drive house last year (2013) with great success and have expanded that to both downstairs units this year. This house is used by our family, and we enjoy it quite a bit. I hope you enjoy it as much as we do.
The Pelican house is true Tybee living at its best. The house is backed by Chimney Creek, a tidal creek. The creek has six feet of water at high tide and goes completely dry at low tide, exhibiting the extreme tide changes that we experience at Tybee. You can fish and crab out of your back door or just enjoy the sun on the secluded floating dock. Out of the front door, you have the beautiful marsh and coastal winds 24 hours a day.
I asked for the downstairs apt but because of Hurricane Matthew there was a small problem with it, so I spent the 1st night upstairs. Very large, nice, and upscale. Downstairs was fine though not so roomy, with a shower instead of a tub, but much better for taking my dogs outside. The screened porch was pleasant for sitting with the dogs, who enjoyed checking out the marsh across the street and the creek in back. Both places were clean and very comfortable and I'd enjoy staying there again. Jimmy and his wife were very pleasant and accommodating. Just a quick drive away was Coco's restaurant with good seafood and the best bloody mary I've ever had! The Crab Shack was walking distance. Sting Ray's in Tybee had wonderful meaty crab stew.
The place was very clean and comfortable for 2. Great location to escape any crowds and have peace and quiet. Glad I did not bring boat, at low tide, it would have sat on the mud, only water at almost high tide. I would have been upset, but I did not take boat and it was OK.
You could fish or crab from the dock and have a relaxing time right out the back door, pretty cool.
We were very pleased with our decision to stay at the Pineapple Cottage. The place is very clean, has everything you will need for a great getaway.
The cottage has furnishings that are quaint and probably more comfortable than home. We loved our stay and will be staying here again.
Also you can crab and fish off of the dock during high tide. At low tide the channel is muddy but all in all, we loved it.
Thanks Mr Edwards!
Made lots of use of the dock in the back. Caught plenty of crab and even a couple good size fish. Great price. Could use a few updates but nothing that makes or breaks the place. Will stay again in future.
We - my 5 year old son, girlfriend, and I - stayed here from Thursday thru Sunday. The cottage is very cute and has all the amenities needed. We didn't actually spend much time inside. It's about a five minute drive to the beach, lighthouse, science center, etc. We went down for a kid's charter fishing outing out of St Simons, only about 90 minute drive to St Simons. 15 minutes into Savannah for River Street and Forsyth Park.
Also, my son and I absolutely loved having the dock out back of the cottage. We crabbed just about every morning before heading out and every night before bed and caught at least one decent sized and a few smaller crabs every time we thru a trap out and we were using hot dogs for bait. My son loves wildlife so having the crabs to catch, inspect and release was fun; we saw fish jumping and various birds. Neighborhood is super quiet and the people we did see were very nice and friendly.
On our last night we tried the Crab Shack, conveniently located around the corner. This place is great and even if you don't like seafood (my gf doesn't) the ribs are amazing! The seafood is great and they have an alligator lagoon that my boy could have played at for hourse; you get to fed the gators....
We had a great time staying in your place! It's very clean and well kept and is very close to anything you need! Only thing that could make it better would be central air and a little bit safer dock (without nails sticking out). Overall, a great place to stay though! Thank you!
