Overview

About the property

3 bedroom 2 bath Oceanfront, chef's kitchen, wifi, 50 steps to tide pools

Captain's Quarters is spacious, and very clean. This ground-level condo has two steps up into it, and provides a fabulous view of the beach! The front room is welcoming with its gas fireplace, two recliners and sleeper sofa for two. The ocean balcony off the master bedroom (with queen bed and large shower/bath) provides a real treat...to enjoy the surf and waves in the comfort of your own condo. The kitchen has all appliances and conveniences to serve a full meal or a snack, and a table that seats 6-8. The bedrooms are nautically-themed and complete with queen bed, closet, bedside tables and lamps. The bathroom is sparkling clean with a tub and shower for your convenience, and the other two bedrooms are on the street side, one with a king bed and the other, a queen. A 'sitting room' marks the entrance, where wet shoes, coats, and towels can be placed, to keep things tidy.

No smoking in the condo or balcony. No pets. No seafood cooking inside the condo, please.

It's very easy to step outside and enjoy the ocean air and sights from the convenience of the lawn, downlooking from the bluff to view the tide pools and people on the beach below.

BRING BINOCULARS on your trip! From here, you can watch ships, whales, people, birds, and vehicles stuck in the sand...great fun!

For your planning purposes: our rates are based on occupancy. Extra guests over the number of two cost only $10/person/night, and are quoted in your price when you mention total persons in your party. This makes our condo affordable for couples or families. If you arrive with additional guests who are undeclared, our extra person charge is $20/person/night.

Bring your own BBQ to enjoy at the beach, or bring some starter wood to light a campfire on the beach! (The driftwood is often wet and hard to start without dry wood from home!).

Captain's Quarters is ideally located between the Pacific Ocean and Lincoln City. Drive down the ramp to spin a few doughnuts in the sand or beachcomb for miles in either direction! Walk 1/4 mile to town to enjoy pizza, ice cream cones, Pier 101 seafood, Thai, Chinese or Mexican food and stroll through souvenir and thrift shops.

About Teresa Reich

We are a family of six who love the beach! Fifteen years ago, we bought a sailboat and took our kids sailing in the Caribbean for a year. The experience was priceless on many levels! We brought home a love for warm oceans and boats and all things nautical.

Teresa Reich purchased this condo in 2014

Why Teresa Reich chose Central Coast

Location, location, location! Captain's Quarters has the exploding horizon of sand and surf, which is always interesting, no matter the weather. No more beachfront is being made, so this unique cliffside condo with a fabulous view is a treasure to us.

What makes this condo unique

Since it is perched on the low sea cliff, we can enjoy winter storms and balmy summer breezes in the condo. Or campfires and long walks on the beach. An oceanfront condo with a fireplace is the best place to be in the world!

Notes:
Beach access is via 50 gentle stairs (with one handrail) or a paved ramp to drive down! In fact, during April - Sept, many cars gather on the beach (right below the condo) when the tide is out! But twice a day, the tide rolls in, and clears everybody out!!! Bring a bundle of firewood from home. It's state-owned property and perfectly legal to have a beach fire without any permit! 'Keep the fire small as a lawn chair and west of the vegetation line and extinquish with water, not sand.' (Oregon State Parks rules) Bring roasting sticks and marshmallows and hot-dogs and you'll have a very fun and memorable meal :) Chinook Winds Casino operates a shuttle bus, which comes right past our condo. Call the driver at 541 921-5100 to schedule pickup. The shuttle leaves the casino every hour, on the hour. and traverses Lincoln City down to the south end of town to Mo's Restaurant at 51st St, then returns on NW Harbor (our street). Operates weekends only, Fri/Sat 4p-2a, Sun 4p-midnight.

Amazing view

  • 5 of 5

The Captain's quarter's was a great place, rooms were cozy and the view from the master bedroom was amazing. My mother in-law loved reading her book out on the balcony every morning and evening. The neighbors above had some children that seemed to be running wild but when they were gone it was a nice time. We put a roast in the crockpot and went to our baseball tournament Saturday and came back to dinner done and the sunset. You could be showering and not notice that the other one was being used also. The only thing that was inconvenient was the lack of dressers, there was shelves the master bedroom that my husband and kids used to store clean clothes on, they did have some wicker little dresser things but the drawers were very small. All in all it was a great con do and we'd definitely come back even with noisy kids upstairs.

Room to spread out and enjoy the view

  • 4 of 5

The biggest plus for this condo is the the great location it combines easy access to the beach along with a couple blocks to restaurants and shops. Another positive is the size for the price. The kids enjoyed having their own bedrooms instead of having to share like a hotel and it's always nice to have 2 bathrooms. The cosmetic updates make for a pleasant appearance but don't be fooled by the pictures finishes are typical beach not luxury. The biggest negative while you have a kitchen you can't cook seafood, so if you think you're going to save money by eating in be prepared to sacrifice sampling the local goodies. Another downside there's no laundry facilities on site, not a problem if your driving and can bring everything you want but if your flying or travelling light you might want to look for someplace with a dryer or that will provide extra towels.

Owner's Response: We have learned that guests do not enjoy following the seafood smells of the prior guest :( We recommend enjoying many of the fine seafood restaurants in our area. We post this about No Seafood Cooking in our condo description, so there are no surprises. Yes, we have a private washer/dryer on site...just ask Mike the manager if you would like to run a load.

Really wonderful

  • 5 of 5

So close to the beach, shops, and food. Lincoln City is a cute little busy town close to everything as well as other bigger beach towns. The beach was so close, it took no time at all to walk to the water. If there was a negative to speak of, sometimes the beach parties can go a little late, however this is easily dealt with. There were 8 of us total, 4 adults and 4 children under 5, plenty of room. Teresa was reachable and very helpful throughout our week long stay. I would recommend to anyone!!

Captains Quarters is in the upscale Oceanlake Historic District, conveniently located close to a ramp to actually drive onto the beach sand! The Chinook Winds Casino and Convention Center is just 2 miles north, with an indoor golf resort, seafood dining, concerts and entertainment, and 23 table games.

The local Chamber of Commerce sponsors a fun program called 'Finders Keepers' and annually hides 3000 hand blown glass sand dollars and Japanese sea floats along the 7 1/2 miles of Lincoln City beach! Be sure to walk the beach in front of your condo and look along the cliffs and among the grass and driftwood for these valuable collector items!

Lincoln City is home to the 'D River', the shortest river in the world. That river drains westward from Devil's Lake into the Pacific Ocean. Fishing on Devils Lake happens at Blue Heron Landing, just south of Hwy 101 at West Devils Lake Road. 541-994-4708. They rent supply bait and other equipment. Canoes, kayaks, motor boats, pontoon, hydrobikes and jet skiing also can be rented.

Ten miles south of Lincoln City is an exit for Boiler Bay State Park. It is famous for incredible ocean views, as well as one of the best places to spot migrating and resident gray whales.

Thirteen miles south of Lincoln City...turn right onto Otter Crest Loop for a more direct ocean drive. Off this Loop is also Cape Foulweather Visitor Center and Devils Punchbowl State Park, so named as at high tide, seawater swirls within a cavern appearing like a punchbowl. This park features 180-degree ocean views, whale sightings, fascinating rock formations, and is very popular with surfers and surf watchers. After a stop here, continue south on Otter Crest Loop to rejoin US-101

Just 30 miles south is the town of Newport on Yaquina Bay, with it's working fleet of fishing vessels, plus sea lions basking on the docks and dozens of quaint bayfront shops and curio stores and restaurants.

World-famous Oregon Coast Aquarium is also located in Newport, as well as the Maritime Museum and the Hatfield Marine Science Center. Two lighthouses, at Yaquina Bay State Park and Yaquina Head Outstanding Natural Area, are also here in Newport.

Your days will be delightful, whether beach combing for glass floats or shopping or dining or reading in front of the fireplace!
