Overview

About the property

Log Home, 3 Bedrooms + Loft, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 8)

Preferred rental periods during the summer months are for a minimum of six nights but four night minimum will be considered during the off season. The Yellowstone River Retreat Vacation Home was built in 2005 and is a cozy log home sitting on 25 acres in the Paradise Valley. The home site overlooks and has access to the Yellowstone River. Directly out the front cathedral windows are trees and brush along the river that provide a bird and animal sanctuary!

The full front view faces southwest towards the Gallatin Mountain Range with a view to the south of the northern mountains of Yellowstone National Park. Trails down to the river provide privacy and excellent Blue Ribbon fishing opportunities right out the front door! In the summer months the lower water levels provide a trout pond where osprey and bald eagles have been seen snatching trout for dinner - you can too! During the winter months herds of elk can be watched on the foothills of the Gallatins from the front windows and are oftentimes crossing the property. The Yellowstone River Retreat will comfortably sleep eight guests. The cathedral ceiling great room and kitchen with breakfast bar provide a setting where everyone can play cards, board games or simply and quietly lose themselves in the beautiful scenery while dinner is cooking.

About Ross and Norma Nickerson

We purchased the land in 1984, camped on it periodically until 2004 then decided to build the log home. We are both teachers and have been living in Montana since 1995. We love Montana and think our home on the Yellowstone River in the Paradise Valley is the best possible get-away in the world. We love the outdoors, wildlife, and scenic views!

Ross and Norma Nickerson purchased this house in 2005

Why Ross and Norma Nickerson chose Yellowstone Country

It is so close to Yellowstone, why not this property! Plus, the views are amazing. Our favorite thing to do in the evening is to sit in the living area, turn off all the lights, and gaze at the brilliant stars out the catherdal windows. There's so much to do during the day and it's relaxing by night.

What makes this house unique

The Yellowstone River is ever-changing...each season brings a new look, more rocks to overturn and admire, and different fishing holes. The catheral windows look southwest to the high mountain peaks of the northern edge of Yellowstone National Park. The deer roam around the house and down by the river. People raft by in the summer either fishing or simply enjoying a warm day. Most importantly to us, it is only 20 miles from the northeast entrance of Yellowstone which gives us plently to see and do every day!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thanks for sharing your house with us! We enjoyed Yellowstone 3 days and hiked Mt. Washburn. We hiked up the hill across the road. Awesome climb. Steep but I only slipped twice! We also rafted the river and went right past the house. This is a perfect location and we hope to be back! Thanks.

Relaxed Splendor Close to Yellowstone

  • 5 of 5

We actually stayed at this magnificent property 8/1-8/2015. Lovely views, well appointed kitchen, close to the river with great fishing. The owners are wonderful to work with. This place will restore your soul. Can't wait to go back. Livingston has a weekly farmers' market and there are many things to see and do within a hour's radius - Gem Mining, Bozeman Dinosaur museum, YNP, Chico Spa - but the best part of the stay is luxuriating in the beauty of the place. Definitely a place to savor.

Perfect place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

We rented this house for our first trip to Montana. It was the perfect location - close to Gardiner, Yellowstone, and Chico. The views from the house can't be beat and it was SO CLEAN. Thank you, Ross and Norma! It was the perfect "home base" for our trip. Great for all ages, including my parents and young children.

A Perfect Getaway Retreat

  • 5 of 5

Thank you Ross and Norma for sharing this wonderful and beautiful house with us during our 5 day stay in Paradise! Our 2 families from Toronto and Singapore found the house very neat and clean- not a single creepy crawly or flying things inside the house. The kids loved that and as well as the Foosball and Ping Pong table. Thank you for an E-entertainment free environment. The kids enjoyed sleeping on the bunk beds in the LOFT. The kitchen was well stocked with immaculate pots, pans, cutlery and appliances. We felt at home cooking and grilling- even the smallest details were taken care by you. The views all around the house is great. We even waded into the river and collected some interesting shaped river rocks. The YRR location was perfect for us since we landed into Bozeman and the Yellowstone North entrance was a short 25 minutes drive. Each day we visited different sections of The Yellowstone National Park and on the return would pick up groceries at the store in Gardiner. After a tiring day of sightseeing and trekking in Yellowstone we really looked forward to returning back to YRR and soaking into the hot shower or the hot tub, family dinner and to a game of Foosball before retiring to bed. I would recommend this 5 star home to prospective travelers to this pristine land.

The Paull's

  • 5 of 5

My family of 4 stayed last week at this wonderful home. We were extremely pleased with everything. Ross and Norma were great and treated us like family. They are very helpful and can answer any questions you may have about the area. It is close to Gardiner and Yellowstone National Park. Just remember that you don't get anywhere fast in Montana or Wyoming. In the park the max speed is 45 mph and most the time it is under 25 mph. There is so much to see you can't do it all in one week. We did a lot in one week. We flew into Rapid City and spent 2 days there before driving to Montana. Livingston is 20 minutes north and large enough to have anything you may need. You must stop at Mark's In and Out for a burger and milkshake. The best I have ever had nationally so far. When you come pack light because you can wash clothes when you need to. Thanks again to Ross and Norma for making this vacation one of our most memorable. Every one of us fell in love with the area and plan on going back.

A Perfect Home and a Perfect Location

  • 5 of 5

Six of us spent a week at the Yellowstone River Retreat (YRR), and it was awesome. I cannot recommend this home enough. As my title states, the home and the location are perfect. Ross and Norma took such good care of us. Their home has everything you could desire for spending time on the Yellowstone river and just a short 30 minute drive to Yellowstone National Park. All six of us would recommend the YRR, and would reserve it again in a heart beat. It was clean, comfortable, and oh so homey. We booked the home 10 months ago and we are 100% pleased with our choice. I would gladly visit with anyone thinking about a reservation. We shall return in the future. Thank you Ross and Norma.
