About Kim Shaffer

We are Greg & Kim and Bryan & Shanna. Greg and Kim currently live in Little Rock, AR, and Bryan and Shanna are locals. Most of us grew up in the Los Angeles area, but Bryan and Kim's parents fell in love with the Sequoias and bought property in Three Rivers in the early 1990's. We have either lived here or visited frequently since that time, soaking up the beauty and peace this area has to offer as often as possible.

Kim Shaffer purchased this house in 2013

Why Kim Shaffer chose Sequoia, Kings Canyon

The rivers are one of nature's highlights here, so we were excited to be able to own a house with such a beautiful, natural landscape right in our backyard. We bought the house in August, 2013, and have completely renovated it inside and out. Every where you look, there is attention to detail and uniqueness. From the tree in the living room to the horse trough tub, it is obvious we had a lot of fun with this project. Being from a big city, we understand the need for a stress-free, relaxing vacation that allows you to experience nature with all the comforts of home. We hope you love this house and the area as much as we do.

What makes this house unique

Our house is conveniently located on a peaceful, quiet lot close to Sequoia National Park, Lake Kaweah, Mineral Kings National Park, Kings Canyon National Park, and downtown Three Rivers. Nearby activities include hiking, boating, fishing, mountain biking, golfing, rafting, wine tasting, antiquing, and swimming. We are also walking distance from the Lion's Arena, where several fun, local festivals are held.

Great house, great location!

  • 5 of 5

This house has a great layout, comfortable beds, and is minutes away from the main entrance to Sequoia National Park. I stayed at the house with a friend and we were grateful for the location while we visited Sequoia NP and Kings Canyon NP. The house is close to Three Rivers. There are restaurants and small markets in town. The owners were friendly and helpful. Cell service at the house was spotty and we were grateful for wifi. If you are visiting the national parks this house will work great for you!

Perfect spot next to sequoia national park

  • 5 of 5

The river house is a perfect spot for families. Our 3 kids loved playing in the river by the house. It was also very close to sequoia for us to easily spend the day hiking and exploring.

Great River Spot

  • 5 of 5

If you are unfamiliar to the area, this house is in a wonderful location within the town of Three Rivers. You're a 10 minute drive to all amenities, including a grocery store, restaurants, art galleries and gas station. The main river is too high and too rapid to swim in, but the North Fork is perfect for lazy river days of fishing and swimming. The river was moving quick enough to where we didn't have to be covered in bug spray 24/7.

The house itself was very nice, clean and well thought out for accommodating a small family. I stayed with my husband and it was comfy for just 2, as well. The fire pit is great. The kitchen is well stocked with appliances and dishes. Being a chef myself, I really enjoyed spending time cooking, especially because the only thing I had to buy in town was tin foil, everything I needed was there.

The only hiccups were minor. The internet is pretty slow, but for being in the country, it was very nice to have at all. There is a tv in the living room with internet, Netflix, etc., but was constantly buffering, so we just turned it off and enjoyed the natural setting. I would recommend bringing DVDs (there is an in-house collection of mostly westerns and kid stuff) for night time entertainment if needed. There are A LOT of critters. Maybe because we've had such a wet season, I don't know. My husband saw a cockroach in the bathroom and almost had a heart attack. That was the only one seen in the house, but they were living in the logs around the fire pit area. He has a general bug phobia and was pretty uncomfortable. Tons and tons of very small frogs and rather large lizards. But again, it's the country, so if critters and slow internet are deal breakers, this property may not be the best choice for you. I enjoyed our stay immensely and would recommend it to anyone looking for a peaceful, California country getaway.

On a separate note, if you've never been to the Sequoia N.P. before, Three Rivers is the last stop before the Southwest entrance. It's literally a 10 minute drive to the park gate. However, it is the most winding entrance to the park. Get some dramamine if you get car sick easily. The North entrance is a much smoother drive. DO NOT try and go up the mountain from 3 Rivers and come back down from the north end. Even though it's a beautiful drive, it is 5x as winding and long as just going back down the way you came.

Great location!!!

  • 4 of 5

Loved this home. The river was beautiful. Plenty of places to sit outside and relax. The home was very comfortable for my family. My boys fished mornings and evenings. Wifi was slow. We had a hard time streaming movies. Other then that, it was a great stay.

AMAZING! Pictures and description don't do it justice!

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely LOVED our stay at the "River House". The location is beautiful and very private. The river is 30 steps from the front door. Our kids had so much fun exploring the property and I loved the hammock. The nearby area is scenic and provides for great walks (including horses and cattle). It is a short drive to Three Rivers and Sequoia entrance. The house was very clean and and had everything we needed (and more). The house has been (VERY) tastefully decorated and updated. Communication with the owner was easy and Kim was very helpful. Weather prevented us from using the campfire or BBQ, but we hope to be back. We found our new happy place as a family and we can't wait to return! Thank you River House!
