About Donna Robinson

My name is Donna Robinson.

I Have lived in Surfside, Tx for 16 years. I am self-employed, and have worked for 16 years, for several homeowners, cleaning and managing their homes. I also work for the moving company located in Angleton, and have worked there for 15 years. I have 3 children who are all grown.

Donna Robinson purchased this cottage in 1997

Why Donna Robinson chose Surfside Beach

A friend showed me Surfside Beach 18 years ago. I had never seen the ocean before and was instantly drawn to the ocean when we came to the top of the bridge. I had never seen homes on stilts. This little community located right on the ocean was so quaint and friendly, that I fell in love instantly. I work, live and play on this island. I raised my babies here and now they are grown, so now I can share paradise with others.

What makes this cottage unique

My home is on stilts, that is so unique to me. My house is also located where you can watch the ships coming or going from the Port jetties. You can sit on my front porch and watch the dolphins play or watch the bird migrations. I am located steps from the beach.

We are located 50 miles from Houston or 40 miles from Galveston.

Felt like a private beach!

  • 5 of 5

Fun, long weekend at the Seahagg! Great time here! Absolutely right on the beach!

Read previous: Yes, a trek to the house. Yes, parking could be challenging, esp when it's busy (no problems for us). Yes, it's not the Ritz, but yes it's perfect for the "right" people!

A quaint cottage with it's own unique personality. Bonus: Yard is fenced in (perfect for a dog that doesn't TRY to escape). Gate and hose-off station at the top of the stairs. Living room and 2 bedrooms are carpeted (a "first" for us with beach rentals). Sunroom is great with the daybed, table & chairs. The living room is cozy with a couch, loveseat, coffee table, and TV (think antenna TV?). There's no WiFi, so either "unplug" or set up a hotspot. Kitchen area has shelves for a pantry, and a bar and an island for counter space. Thoughtfully, the owner provided some bottled water (we had brought some, but saved a trip to the store, & we left an unopened 3-gallon jug to "pay it forward"). Recommend: bring your own sponge - the one left there was stinky, but I brought a new one. The shower is awesome! (You can wash your hair and not hit your elbows on the walls!). A strategically-located mirror above the toilet allows you to see yourself blow-drying your hair (outlet by washing machine is too far from the sink vanity mirror). Dryer is behind doors in the bathroom, FYI. The doors to the bedrooms are frames with cloth panels, & the rooms have shutters that open to the main living areas (bedroom noises WILL be heard, LoL -though the drone from window units muffles sounds!). No complaints about the queen mattress in the master. Disappointed that the 2nd bedroom had only a twin (thought it was a double or queen, or perhaps had a trundle)- the daybed "saved" us.

Our weather: warm & sunny, clouds & rain, wind & cold. Strategically-located heaters warmed the house nicely, and the window units cooled effectively (keep the entry door shut!). Area under the house provided cover from the rain & a respite from the wind to enjoy the sea air and sounds of the waves outdoors though the dunes obscure the waterview.

Comparisons: Dos Vistas, 2BR. On the water; "newer," better parking, lacked coziness & personality, by the jetty, ramp vs stairs. Beach Bunny, 2BR (next door!), on the water; also a trek, but more boardwalk. Seahagg wins for us for the sunroom, fence, and the area under the house! Motion-activated lights were great!

Thank you so much Donna! Great price, awesome stay! Hope this helps readers!

Great experience for the price!

  • 5 of 5

This house is not anything fancy, but it will bring you a great face the ocean experience. It is about 1 hour west from seawall Galveston. You have to walk a few steps to the house from parking area, but not too bad. My family and I had a great time!

Sea hag

  • 3 of 5

Sea Hag was right on the beach with no frills . Good for budget minded people . The trek to the csr and back was a little long. Trail would have been easier if the weeds had been weed eated. Air conditioning worked and house was cool in 99 degree weather.

Owner's Response: Glad everyone had a good time ! Those weeds that you speak of are several varieties of dune grasses. We are not allowed to weed eat dune grasses. I have kept it back from the paths that you walk on. We have spent 8 yrs building the dunes back from Hurricane Ike; that means from flat beach to present state. Dunes and grasses are the first line defense to tropical storms and hurricanes. I am proud of what I have accomplished in rebuilding dunes. When you come to my house you are at a real beach, it is not perfect for everyone, but it is my little piece of paradise! Thanks, Donna Robinson

Beach Bum Returns 2016

  • 5 of 5

This was our second year staying at The Seahagg, I absolutely love this little cottage on the beach. The free entertainment of dimwits getting stuck on the beach is great :) Pack light because you have to walk to home or if you have 4 wheel drive you can go on to beach and pull up in front of house to unload. This cottage is truly a beach bum experience. The house is not fancy, but, I didn't go to beach for fancy, I went for the beach and outdoors and you can not get any closer to beach. You can walk down the beach to Pirates Alley for dinner on the beach, also, don't forget a visit to Kitty's Purple Cow.

If you are looking for a true beach experience, this is your house. Donna Robinson is great to deal with, I have never had to call with a problem, but she is readily available to take care of any problems.

See you next year!!!

Perfect for our Family!!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the Seahagg Monday - Friday and it was wonderful! It was just as we expected and we couldn't have needed more. Donna was readily available if we needed her the days leading up to our trip and when we initially settled in. Upon arrival the cottage was clean/tidy and ready for us to settle in. This beachfront cottage was the perfect place for my husband and I along with our three young children. The Seahagg was equipped with all we needed - from grilling needs, hanging our hammock under the house, plenty of a/c to cool off from the Texas sun and the perfect location - the beach!! The beach was not busy and the kids were able to play in the water all day. We all loved watching the ships come/go and the dolphins swimming in the not-so-far distance. Seashells galore to collect! This property had beach toys ready for the kids. We particularly enjoyed the deck after the sun settled - watching the moon shine on the gulf while the kids were comfortable inside (dvd players in the bedrooms). The washer/dryer was very convenient as well. Recommendations to travelers - no need to over pack, swimsuits are the only things we ended up needing :) Convenient location to necessities (such as ice, beer, gas, souvenirs). We arrived on a Monday and aside from needing ice - we never left. We loved it here and would definitely return. Thank you Donna - this family from South Dakota would definitely return!

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for coming. I love when people can come and enjoy the life that I have lived for 20 yrs. It is beautiful to sit on the porch at nite and look for shootings stars, or the space station flying over, or the planets shining so brite, or the moon shimmering off the ocean. I am glad the kids had a great time too. Good luck on your drive home. Donna Robinson

Great Front Row View of the Ocean

  • 4 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay here. You can't get much of a better view than this. The owner/manager was very courteous and responsive both before and during the trip. Cons: Parking was slightly inconvenient and the water pressure/quality was poor. But the price and the location of this house more than made up for it. I highly recommend this property if you are looking for a relaxed stay right on the beach.
