About Donna Robinson
My name is Donna Robinson. I Have lived in Surfside, Tx for 16 years. I am self-employed, and have worked for 16 years, for several homeowners, cleaning and managing their homes. I also work for the moving company located in Angleton, and have worked there for 15 years. I have 3 children who are all grown.
Donna Robinson purchased this Cottage in 1997
Why Donna Robinson chose Surfside Beach
A friend showed me Surfside Beach 18 years ago. I had never seen the ocean before and was instantly drawn to the ocean when we came to the top of the bridge. I had never seen homes on stilts. This little community located right on the ocean was so quaint and friendly, that I fell in love instantly. I work, live and play on this island. I raised my babies here and now they are grown, so now I can share paradise with others.
What makes this Cottage unique
My home is on stilts, that is so unique to me. My house is also located where you can watch the ships coming or going from the Port jetties. You can sit on my front porch and watch the dolphins play or watch the bird migrations. I am located steps from the beach. We are located 50 miles from Houston or 40 miles from Galveston.

Felt like a private beach!
Fun, long weekend at the Seahagg! Great time here! Absolutely right on the beach!
Read previous: Yes, a trek to the house. Yes, parking could be challenging, esp when it's busy (no problems for us). Yes, it's not the Ritz, but yes it's perfect for the "right" people!
A quaint cottage with it's own unique personality. Bonus: Yard is fenced in (perfect for a dog that doesn't TRY to escape). Gate and hose-off station at the top of the stairs. Living room and 2 bedrooms are carpeted (a "first" for us with beach rentals). Sunroom is great with the daybed, table & chairs. The living room is cozy with a couch, loveseat, coffee table, and TV (think antenna TV?). There's no WiFi, so either "unplug" or set up a hotspot. Kitchen area has shelves for a pantry, and a bar and an island for counter space. Thoughtfully, the owner provided some bottled water (we had brought some, but saved a trip to the store, & we left an unopened 3-gallon jug to "pay it forward"). Recommend: bring your own sponge - the one left there was stinky, but I brought a new one. The shower is awesome! (You can wash your hair and not hit your elbows on the walls!). A strategically-located mirror above the toilet allows you to see yourself blow-drying your hair (outlet by washing machine is too far from the sink vanity mirror). Dryer is behind doors in the bathroom, FYI. The doors to the bedrooms are frames with cloth panels, & the rooms have shutters that open to the main living areas (bedroom noises WILL be heard, LoL -though the drone from window units muffles sounds!). No complaints about the queen mattress in the master. Disappointed that the 2nd bedroom had only a twin (thought it was a double or queen, or perhaps had a trundle)- the daybed "saved" us.
Our weather: warm & sunny, clouds & rain, wind & cold. Strategically-located heaters warmed the house nicely, and the window units cooled effectively (keep the entry door shut!). Area under the house provided cover from the rain & a respite from the wind to enjoy the sea air and sounds of the waves outdoors though the dunes obscure the waterview.
Comparisons: Dos Vistas, 2BR. On the water; "newer," better parking, lacked coziness & personality, by the jetty, ramp vs stairs. Beach Bunny, 2BR (next door!), on the water; also a trek, but more boardwalk. Seahagg wins for us for the sunroom, fence, and the area under the house! Motion-activated lights were great!
Thank you so much Donna! Great price, awesome stay! Hope this helps readers!
Glad everyone enjoyed their stay !
We enjoyed are time at the beach. We pretty much had the beach to are self. We stayed Sunday - Thursday. Donna call me to make sure everything was ok. She is supper nice. Your welcome Deb !
Glad y'all had a good time !
Being ON the beach makes some of the "character" of the house more then worth it.
The Seahagg is a quaint, quirky and PERFECTLY located home. For the price, do not expect deluxe accommodations. It was clean and adequately stocked. As stated in previous reviews, the bedroom doors are fabric panels and there are also shutters from each bedroom out to the living area. There is adequate visual privacy but sound does travel. This was a minor challenge for us when our toddler needed to go to bed early and the bigger kids wanted to watch a movie. The TV had to be turned up loud enough to be heard over the air conditioners but the sound then traveled equally as well into the bedrooms. Not a deal breaker by any means but worth noting for family's that may have children with different sleep needs. There was one boogie board and some sand toys left by a previous guest as well as a pop up tent. We contributed a couple more boogie boards and a "new to the house" pop up tent after the one left previously grew legs. The kitchen supplies were similarly stocked. It was very helpful to have the bits and pieces provided by Donna as well as the hodgepodge of supplies left by previous guests. The beds do leave a lot to be desired. The beds in the bedrooms could use replaced and the day bed is not a mattress at all but rather multiple bolster type cushions placed together on a wooden frame. I just had to make sure things were all in place so our son didn't fall through/out/off each night :) It is a place to lay your head though. If you're someone who struggles with aches and pains I'd recommend packing the pain revilers and maybe an egg crate or two :) All of the quirks of the house can be completely forgotten though when you realize how perfectly located it is, especially at it's price point. We had a pretty good idea of what the accommodations were going to be like based on previous reviews, and intentionally chose this house because it allowed our family of 5, with kids ranging in age from 1-11, to stay ON the beach for a whole week. Seeing dolphins from the house, being able spend an hour at the beach before breakfast, a couple hours here and there throughout the day and fit in naps and meals with out having to load everyone and everything up and drive was so worth it. We visited from memorial day weekend through the following week and as expected the weekend (Sunday) was jam packed but Monday was much less busy and by Tuesday there were times we had the beach nearly to ourselves. For us it was the perfect family trip!
Glad everyone had a good time !
Decent House, Great View!
First off for the price you pay for the house please don’t expect 5 Star accommodations. The house has seen much better days, but it doesn’t leak and the doors lock so that’s a plus. We had a few issues. First we were unsure of where to throw the trash away because the blue trash cans on Coral st had other numbers on them and where I come from you don’t put your trash in a neighbors can or there will be trouble. I called and left a VM with the owner but I never heard back from her. There are cans on the beach, so we just put it there. Met the owner after we checked out, she was very nice so I don’t know what the issue was with the message. Another issue we had was an air conditioner in one bed room kept blowing its breaker so we had to shuffle the kids the last night. All of that was no problem though. Our biggest issue was the mattresses. They both look and feel at least 20 years old. Think pull out sofa mattress only twice as thick. You could feel every single spring in them. Slept about 2 hours total the first night. Wound up going to Walmart and buying a queen air mattress to put on the box spring instead. The view from the porch and spending the evenings looking at the ocean made up for the conditions though. 3 stars on the house and 5 stars on the view averages out to 4 stars.
Word of advice, we were there in late May, and the sand fleas and biting flies distroyed our ankles, we look like we have the chicken pox below the knees, so bring insect repellent.
It was great to get to meet you. Sorry for the air conditioner problem.
Glad you were able to enjoy the beach.
Absolutely beautiful location right on beach
We so enjoyed being right on the beach. Drinking coffee on porch. We put our umbrella on corner of porch front sun first thing in the morning. I strongly suggest buying a canopy for the beach itself. The wind is so strong an umbrella is difficult to deal with. Also we stopped at the local gas station and bought an unlimited beach access pass for $12. So totally worth it. We were able to go on beach every day to park right in front of the house so we didn’t have others right in front of us. During the week was quiet and peaceful. The weekend was busy and noisy. The reason I didn’t give 5 stars is location of parking is a bit of a walk to haul stuff plus the mattresses really need to be updated. I will say I’m really picky about my mattress as I have a bad back. The cottage is cute and has everything you need. It was clean so no complaints there. Donna is sweet and easy to reach. We’d stay again. The beach is perfect. We saw dolphins every morning off our porch.
So glad everyone had a good time .
Perfect for our needs!
This is the cottage we have been searching for! Not fancy, but extremely comfortable. The ONLY down side was the access, but even that was just a little inconvenient. Most of the boardwalk leading to the house was in excellent shape and the motion lights were a plus. We we're able to park in front of the house on the beach which made unloading/loading much easier. We are already checking our calendars for dates to return. It was just the two of us this time but we will be back and will bring the grandchildren! Being dog friendly was the icing on the cake! I didn't meet the owner, but did speak with her on the phone and found her to be extremely nice.
So glad you had a good time !
See you again soon
