Winter’s Camp is a charming and cozy cabin tucked into the pines in the center of Twain Harte, with modern touches and access to Twain Harte Lake. It’s the perfect escape for families looking for a relaxing stay in a quaint Sierra town that time forgot (in a good way).
The cabin has two bedrooms and two bathrooms and can comfortably sleep eight. There is a master bedroom on the far end with a queen-size bed and ensuite bathroom. A second bedroom features a full-size bed plus twin bunk beds – perfect for the family. The spacious living room has a vaulted ceiling and a fireplace (that is just for show. There is ample space to huddle around a vintage board game, relax with a book or enjoy movie night with family and friends.
Winter’s Camp has been in our family for decades. It was recently handed down a generation and given a modern refresh. All the bed and bath linens are fresh, comfortable and actually match! There is speedy wireless internet access – with a strong signal throughout the house and front deck. The living room has a 42” Sony TV in case you’ve reached pine tree and sunshine overload. The connected Roku box will let you queue up a movie from your Netflix, Amazon or Hulu account. Note: there is no standard cable TV service.
The kitchen is well-stocked with the cookware and tools you need to pull together a family feast (sharp knives, solid cookware and a cocktail shaker in case of emergency). There is fresh, new table service for eight. Enjoy meals inside when the air is cool or take advantage of the huge deck out front for dining al fresco.
Speaking of that deck: you’ll spend more time here than any other place during your stay. Perfect for relaxing, having a drink and coming up with grand plans that you’ll never get around to because you’re so content right where you are. Seriously, it’s a great deck.
Your rental comes with lake privileges, granting you access to Twain Harte Lake for your entire group. Relax on the sandy shore, take a swim in the cool water on a hot day or make your way across the lake the “The Rock” where the big kids hang out and dare each other to throw backflips off the diving board. Don’t forget to hit the Snack Shack for soft serve ice cream.
There is so much more to say, but we’ll let the pictures do some of the talking as well. The owner manages the property and lives locally if you need any help during your stay. About Bill Salsig and Jody Pritchard
Winter's Camp (known in our family as 'The Cabin') has been the hub of our summer vacations since the mid-80's. In 2009 Bill (pictured with his mother Natalie and granddaughter) 'retired' from the US Forest Service and moved to Twain Harte where he now lives full time. Bill has continued his love of engineering and still inspects trail bridges on the Stanislaus National Forest. Bill also serves on the Twain Harte Lake Association Board of Directors. In 2013 he purchased the cabin from his mother and spent a year renovating the cabin with the help of his daughter Jody. Jody is a professional lighting designer in San Francisco and helps Bill with the rental management and online presence of Winter's Camp.

Why Bill Salsig and Jody Pritchard chose Twain Harte
Why Winter in Summer? For five generations the name 'Winter' has been handed down through the first sons in our family. The youngest is now just 7. Winter's Camp has been a place where generations of our family reconnect, play, and relax together during hot summer days. So many hours have been spent reading on the deck, lounging at The Lake, and swapping stories. As a kid Jody always wanted to vacation somewhere else, but now as an adult with her own family, she loves the smell of the pine trees when they drive into Twain Harte and her children constantly ask when they get to go back.
What makes this Cabin unique
Summers at Winter's Camp are the perfect answer to the cold Bay Area fog. We have invested in the property to provide fun Mid-Century modern design and creature comforts for the next generations to come. We look forward to sharing our little slice of summer haven with you and the people you care about.

Amazing Family getaway
We had such a relaxing time staying at the Winter's Camp cabin. It was the perfect spot for our family of 5! The kitchen had all the essentials, there were family games to play, the T.V. was easy to operate and had great instructions. But our favorite part was deck. The picnic table area was so cute, we enjoyed eating outside. It was so inviting, we highly recommend this cabin and will be back in the near future.
My husband and I really enjoyed our stay in Twain Harte. The cabin is a great mixture of mid-century and rustic charm. A lot of thought and detail in all the decorations and added amenities: vintage games and magazines; charming stuffed animals; creative lighting and comfortable beds. Easy short walk to town and lake access, too. We would love to go back!
Enjoyed our stay tremendously and will back soon!
The cabin is very well equipped and located near downtown. We had two families with two 5 year old boys. All had a blast! Both days walked downtown and ended up listening to live music and dancing. Lake is very kid-friendly but can get crowded on the weekend.
The only thing we would enjoy better is a earlier check in and one hour later check out .
Everything you could possibility think of was there -
Earlier check in and a little later check out would be better for our family though - that may stop us from renting here again - it was so perfect other wise we loved the huge deck - we never turned on the tv -
Great cabin! central location, clean and cozy & family friendly
Fantastic Cabin and lovely owners.. The cabin is centrally located, a 2 minute walk to the village and a short drive to the lake (we also walked)
The cabin is very well equipped, clean and modernized but has a vintage rustic charm. We loved our trip and cant wait to return.
Beautiful, well equipped home with responsive and kind property owners!
Bill and his daughter, Jody were very helpful from the moment we booked their beautiful home. Bill stopped by shortly after we arrived to drop off a bottle of wine and snacks for the kids. He told us about things to do in the area as well as the History of the place. The property worked out perfect for our group; 3 adults and 3 children - the kids loved the deck and the toys/games on the property. The kitchen had everything we needed to make breakfast, lunch and dinner. Everything was spotless, we can't wait to go back. The only disappointment was the local pool was not open which of course had nothing to do with the property. The lake was beautiful though they are quite strict (no personal food or drinks at the lake and anything bought at snack shack must be consumed within the "eating area," not where all you're towels etc. are).
