Hello to all new and returning renters of Pondering Pines Cabin ! We are the Colombo family ! Robert , Susan , Nicole , Tyler and Dominic Colombo. We are the new owners of the Pondering Pines Cabin! We live in Petaluma Ca. I've worked as a garbageman for the last 28 years in San Francisco and my wife is a stay at home mom. We look forward to your stay. We will try to make your visit a great experience !!
Robert Colombo purchased this cabin in 2010
My family has been vacationing in Twain Harte for about ten years now. We were looking for a vacation place that had everything. Twain Harte is that place. Twain Harte offers a beautiful swimming and fishing only lake, restaurants within walking distance, Pee Wee golf, hiking trails , golf course , movies in the park , only a few hours from the bay area , snow skiing and much more. Its been a long time dream of mine to own my own vacation place in the mountains. With the support of my wife we were able to make it work.
Our cabin is located on a very quiet street yet its within walking distance to restaurants , pee wee golf and your morning coffee and fresh baked scone !!!. Its has a large deck and sits on about 1/4 of an acre.We spend every morning having coffee on the deck and every evening bbqing and enjoying our great view as the sun sets. We are very fortunate that all of our neighboring cabins are non vacation rentals. This keeps our area especially quiet.
Deer can often be seen coming up from the creek down the hill behind the cabin. The creek is too far to hike to. Sorry kids :) On the nights we get back too late from the lake or playing in the snow we often walk to town for a bite at one of the local restaurants. 'The Rock' is very popular! The cabin was built in 1937 but has all the comforts of home. YES! It has central heat !!! We love Twain Harte and we love our cabin. I know you will too.
Very charming and comfortable place- we have been coming here for many years and our young kids love it like a second home. Quiet location but close to everything. Owners are great to work with!
Our two families (with 4 kids ages 4-7) were looking for a short 2-night getaway between Christmas and New Year's to see some snow. Given most places require ONE WEEK minimum during this period, we knew the odds were against us. So we were elated to come across this cabin that allowed a 2-night minimum! And we were elated even more when 1) the owner seemed to take so much pride in going above & beyond to be a good host and felt so personally vested in us having a great time (email response times within a few hours, text response times within a few minutes, before/during our stay), 2) the rooms (including bathrooms & kitchen) were super clean, 3) second floor sleeping options were lovely, 4) we saw the largest selection of movies/games (especially for kids) I've seen in a cabin rental, and 5) only a short 15 minute drive up the freeway with a foot of snow where we had the whole hill to ourselves for sledding. To cap it off, not having had to give up an arm and a leg for this stay (compared to similar places) left us feeling good about the value we got for the money. If this is in your budget range, you'd be hard-pressed to find a better place. My only one recommendation is that the living room can use some more lighting. :) We'd definitely be interested in coming back for a summer stay to enjoy the benefits of the lake.
I had the pleasure of staying in this cabin for a very short two days and definitely plan on returning next year. The cabin is so cozy and comfortable! My son and daughter-in-law were with me and we all enjoyed the very comfortable beds and the cleanliness and quaintness of this adorable cabin. The owner, Robert, was extremely easy to communicate with and readily provided recommendations on things to do in the area. I had several peaceful mornings sitting on the deck with my morning coffee and afternoons with a glass of wine. I was able to make friends with the resident hummingbird who decided I was a safe companion and kept me entertained at his feeder next to the deck. The town of Twain Harte is great and it is within walking distance to the cabin. There are very good restaurants and I was pleasantly surprised to find really good live music at several of them on a Saturday night. All in all this was a perfect short break in a very charming area. I'm looking forward to my next stay. Next time I'm bringing my fishing gear.
We had a lovely time in this sweet, quiet home. It was very clean and welcoming and just as described. We would gladly rent this getaway again next time we're in Twaine Hart. The owners were very responsive to text and email. It was our first time to Twaine Hart and Robert was happy to fill us in on places to see and eat. We loved sitting out on the porch for morning coffee and playing cards in the evening. Thank you for sharing your home!
We just returned from a 4-day stay at Pondering Pines Cabin in Twain Harte over the 4th of July weekend, and we had such a wonderful time, it was hard to leave! My husband, my 9-year-old son, and I truly enjoyed the rustic charm of the cabin. You can tell it is such a well-cared-for cabin, and it is beautiful, quaint, and simply elegant. We enjoyed sitting out on the deck each morning and evening in the beautiful surroundings, connecting with the very nice neighbors, and appreciating the comfort of Pondering Pines Cabin. I felt very at home there, and I'm grateful for how clean it was, how easy it was to get there, and how close it was to town and to Twain Harte Lake. We will definitely come back, especially in the winter! We found that it was only a short 20-minute drive to Dodge Ridge and Pinecrest. The Colombo's have definitely created a little sanctuary in the woods with their Pondering Pines Cabin. Robert and Susan have made certain that their guests have a comfortable and inviting stay, and Robert was very easy to work with in planning our stay in Twain Harte. So thank you to the Colombo's for providing such a lovely home-away-from home!
My family enjoyed a week here for skiing at Dodge Ridge. Love Twain Harte as it is an easy drive up the hill with all the conveniences of a great town. And it is well plowed if you wake up to a snowstorm. Cabin is old-school with all the modern necessities. A bit quirky but that is what makes renting a cabin fun. Lots of good sleeping room for kids upstairs and a master downstairs for the parents. Will definitely rent again.
