Why Gail DeLano chose Twain Harte

My grandfather built this cabin in 1940 for his family. After my father died, my mother continued to vacation at Twain Harte with the four kids in my family. Currently, my brother and I own the property, and have improved it throughout the years - new roof, foundations, siding, interior walls, new electrical, new plumbing and tankless water heater, log woodwork, new deck, and a completely remodeled upstairs bath. The cabin is very updated with a vintage feel.

What makes this cabin unique

Large flat property with parking for 10+ cars...many lots in Twain Harte are smaller with little parking. Great place for kids to safely place away from the street. Cabin sits among many tall pine trees but is 1/3 mile from the little town of Twain Harte, and 2/3 mile from Twain Harte Lake

Magical Stay!

  • 5 of 5

From the planning stages of the trip, Gail was super communicative and helpful in planning our stay. She describes the cabin perfectly on VRBO. Much emphasize is needed that the lot itself was spectacular. It was huge, with plenty of flat space for our kids to play. The location is also walking distance to the cutest little downtown where there are several restaurants, ice cream shop and even live music on Saturday night (at least night we were there). Though the beds and bedding are comfortable, the vacation rental is definitely a cabin so if you are looking to have a luxurious kitchen and/or hotel like flooring and temperature controlled rooms, you may want to look elsewhere. I know my family and friends will be back because our kids had a fantastic time while at the rental and at our daily trips to the lake. The fee to go to the lake daily is $8 per person and is worth every dime. Just know there is no food/alcohol/coolers allowed. What you do get to experience though is a super family friendly environment with several lifeguards and a perfectly sized lake where one can swim from one end to the other; and there are even water slides, diving boards and a play structure. The deck is simply the very best one I have ever stayed at ever! It is huge and several hours time seemed to slip away as we enjoyed BBQ'ing and nature (several deer sightings during our stay). All in all, this place reminds me of a slower paced state like Idaho, where you are immune to the hustle and bustle of California making it an incredible getaway with minimal driving given it's accessibility from both the Bay Area and Sacramento area.

This is a true "mountain cabin" experience.

  • 4 of 5

We had a great time in this cabin. It is very rustic and quant. It was cold outside but the cabin stays very warm. Beautiful views and we saw deer!!!!! Just a relaxing, fun weekend with the family. Thank you!

Just amazing!

  • 5 of 5

My family wanted a last minute trip up to the mountains before it gets cold. I found this place with one week left, when got to the place everything was clean and perfect. It was on a big lot so the kids enjoyed playing outside, the lakes and rivers aren't too far from the place so we had a chance to go fishing and even caught a few trout. Overall, if you have a large family this place is perfect for you.

Good for big groups

  • 2 of 5

The cabin was plenty big enough for our group, 6 adults and 3 kids, with enough room to accommodate 2 extra adults that joined us for dinner.

We were disappointed with the cleanliness of the cabin. The kitchen floor looked like it hadn't seen a mop for some time and we had to sweep the deck and dust off the chairs before enjoying it. There were some issues with the heating as well so we were chilly for a while which didn't help with our general impressions.

The cabin was simple and a great size for our group, but I didn't feel like it was a great value. I wouldn't not recommend it, but just keep your expectations a little low.

Owner's Response: I'm very sorry Stephanie and her family were dissatisfied with the cabin's condition the weekend they stayed. Now that I’m aware, I’ll be getting in touch with them to make it up to them in some fashion. We communicated about the heating, which was simply a matter of time for the units to heat up. I normally have my cleaning service leave the heater and pellet stove on a lower setting, but unfortunately it wasn’t high enough this time. But it was not until I read this review that I knew of any cleaning issues. I always emphasize to my cleaners that the cabin must be especially clean for guests. I keep in touch with guests as they arrive and after to make sure there are sufficient supplies and to address any issues. While I heard about and monitored the heating questions, I did not hear anything about the kitchen floor, the deck and outside furniture, etc. If I get any complaints, I offer to have my cleaning service come over right away to address the issue. Obviously, that's not my first choice—I’d rather it perfectly clean and ready when guests arrive. I certainly would have done that for Stephanie's group had I known. I've had a few changes this year with a long-time cleaner relocating out of the area mid-year and have tried a few cleaning services as replacements. I thought I was finally set, but clearly there are some further changes needed. Please, those of you who book a cabin for a vacation, keep in touch with owners so they can address issues WHEN you are there. The clear majority will want to address problems for you, so you can fully enjoy your stay. No one wants to have unhappy renters. Just let them know!

We had a wonderful weekend!

  • 5 of 5

We returned to Twain Harte for a weekend after a MANY year absence. We loved the cabin. It was easily large enough for 8 of us. The cabin was clean and comfortable and had all of the amenities that we needed. It was a really hot week, and Gail was super responsive about getting us extra fans for the bedrooms to keep us more comfortable. The ceiling fans were very helpful, as well. Gail checked in a few times to see that all was well, but was not intrusive. The cabin location is a close walk to downtown and allowed the kids to walk around on their own.

I have many fond memories of Twain Harte and this was a great weekend for us getting to visit.
