About the property

Darling One Bedroom, Kitchen, Jetted Tub At Foot Of Sun Mountain, Sunset Views

Nestled among two acres of pinons at the foot of the sacred Sun Mountain, your casita beckons. Sunsets and sunrises greet you daily, with Sun mountain to your back only being about a 30 minute hike to the top. There you'll understand why people move to Santa Fe. A mile away is Museum Hill. A few blocks further are the art galleries, restaurants, and the Georgia O'Keefe Museum. Georgia spent her last years only a couple blocks from Sun Mountain Casita. After a day here, you'll understand why. It is the perfect quiet place to watch the skies change over the city and mountains after a day in the land of enchantment. Step into your jetted tub, grill some salmon, and enjoy a glass of wine while the Santa Fe light lingers on your private patio. Enjoy the bird feeders, flowers and the sounds of coyotes as the lights twinkle before you. The perfect retreat, Sun Mountain Casita will cast her gentle spell on you, beckoning you to return.

About Nancy or George Roberts

George grew up a missionary kid in Zimbabwe, and met Nancy in California. After raising two boys, they set out to find their perfect paradise, Santa Fe, although they call the world their home. Avid travelers, they have been to 75 countries. They are devotees of Argentine Tango, and love dogs of all kinds.

Nancy or George Roberts purchased this cottage in 2001

Why Nancy or George Roberts chose New Mexico

The property is unusual as it is so close to downtown, yet on two view acres. Most people say it is the best view they've seen in Santa Fe, and Sun Mountain is literally at your back door. Close to everything yet in a peaceful paradise, we felt completely blessed to be able to purchase this property, and now share it with you. The house was built in 1930, and the floors are old 18 in wide plank pine...a rarity now. Harold Littlefield built the place and we've done our best to restore it, and not change it much. We call it rustic elegance.

What makes this cottage unique

Well, to us and our friends, this property has soul, as soon as you turn in the long driveway, shaded by pinons. The views will take your breath away, as Santa Fe skies change each hour. You can watch summer storms come in and go out all across the valley, from Albuquerque to some say, Colorado. The living room floor has 18 inch wide boards from the 1930's and vigas across the living room ceiling. The Jotul fireplace heats the whole casita. Charm oozes from each room, with lovely original art, to the mosaic bathroom. Bird feeders are all around, and the curved walls of the patio drip with purple wisteria in the summer, framing other flowers. You won't want to leave!

Cozy casita with a lot of personality!

  • 5 of 5

This stay was perfect for us. It is walking distance to Sun Mountain trailhead and a very short drive to the plaza. We love to tent camp and the casita allowed us to feel like we were connected to the outdoors. The bed is comfortable. The house is perfect for a couple but tight space if add additional people although another family member would be fine. We were there in July and the afternoons heat up but it cools back down at night so never posed a problem as long as windows are kept open. No screens on the windows but was not a problem.

Wonderful property with great views of the city lights, sunsets and Sun Mountain

  • 5 of 5

I had a relaxing and restful stay for almost 2 weeks. Convenient to town. Fully equipped kitchen. Ample outside space and not fussy at all. Nancy and George really thought it through in what a guest might need and it was all there. I highly recommend their casita.

Wonderful!

  • 5 of 5

We loved staying in the casita. It is compact as stated, but had everything we needed. Quiet and beautiful surroundings. Having Sun Mtn right in back was a treat and made hiking so convenient.

Owner's responsiveness to a refrigerator issue was immediately addressed and a new one was installed within hours. Great service! Would recommend to anyone not needing a lot of space.

Charming outdoor space

  • 3 of 5

This will never be a 5 star property for the reasons other reviewers list: tiny kitchen, refrigerator and freezer not cold enough, no heat in the bedroom, other small things, like only one wine glass. That being said, the outdoor area just about makes up for it. The patio is truly lovely and was in spring bloom when we were there. The view is terrific and the outdoor furnishings made it a comfortable place to be, especially with our two small dogs. Having Sun Mountain right behind you is also pretty spectacular. The location is super convenient, with a 5 minute drive to the Plaza. The Jotul gas heater was cozy on the snowy evening we were there. If you don't plan on cooking much and enjoy being outdoors, this might be right for you.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your review. We are sad you think that this property will never deserve a 5 star review. Indeed the kitchen is small as you can see from the photos, which is reflected in the price of 135 a night...but everything one needs is there. Sometimes people don't communicate to us about the broken wine glasses and the housekeeper doesn't always notice. We will indeed replace the broken wine glasses now that we know. If the Jotul stove is on in advance of a snowy night, the heat does travel to the bedroom. If not enough, there is an electric heater in the closet for you to use. We have really tried hard to make this million dollar view property deserving 5 stars for the price, but need communication like yours to make this happen, so thank you for this. We hope you will visit again. Our main house property does have a large kitchen. Perhaps you would be happier there. www.vrbo.com/639257. You will note it has all 5 star reviews. Please visit! Perfect for our needs.

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in Santa Fe for the balloon fest in Albuquerque. This house had everything we needed, was very close to town and had no problems. The price was right which was the most important aspect for us, and they let us have our dog with us which was a priority. We have a well trained dog, so we had no problems. We would recommend staying in this cozy home in the mountains as it was pleasant and quiet.
