About Melissa Schutter

Owners Melissa and Jeff Schutter both grew up and raised two children in Seward. We love Alaska and the outdoors. We spend as much of our free time as possible enjoying the great outdoors of Alaska fishing, camping, hiking, ATV riding and snowmobile riding. We can recommend activities and places to visit, and tell stories of living in Alaska; including the time our son was attached by a bear! Yes he survived, with minimal injury.

Why Melissa Schutter chose Bear Creek

Tiehacker Lodging is nestled in a private subdivision away from the hustle and bustle of the downtown area. With majestic views and wildlife viewing, this is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the beauty of Alaska.

Cozy

  • 4 of 5

This place was a good deal for the cost. It's very basic, but has all you need in a place to stay in the Seward area.

Great place!

  • 5 of 5

Apartment was very cute. Great location, close to exit glacier and only a couple miles from downtown seward. The game room/pool table was great and there was a lot of space.

Good value stay

  • 5 of 5

Went to Seward for two days fishing, stayed two nights. Very clean with really charming entrance hall - there is free standing wood fire stove, which owners are happy to run for you. It's in heavily wooded area with little creek behind property - really quiet at night. The bathroom arrangements - probably more suitable for family with kids - entrance to bathroom through the bed room. We knew about it when made decision to book. There are comfortable futon beds in game room and there are plenty wii games and accessories. It was raining heavily through our stay so we stayed inside and play pool. If planning to stay, I would not recommend cooking dinners but rather dine in town, though it is setup for breakfast - we managed to have scramble eggs, coffee and toasts for three adults quite easily, making beef stroganoff for three adults at dinner was jumping through the hoops :). Or have microwaveable food for nights!

Felt Like Home

  • 5 of 5

By the time we arrived in Seward, we were tired of hotel rooms and ready to go home. The lodge was spacious and the pool table was a nice bonus. We enjoyed cooking, playing pool, and connecting when we were in. The wifi was good and strong. The property is about a 10-minute drive to downtown and is surrounded by beautiful woods. As we were getting out of the car, I heard the river nearby. Thanks for letting us enjoy your beautiful property for a few days.

good place to stay

  • 4 of 5

Melissa and Jeff were very nice. We spoke to Jeff quite a bit. He told us about many things. The place was comfortable with a comfortable bed and had lots of room for the two of us. We had our own private entrance. The small river behind the house was cool. We saw Bald Eagles flying up and down it. Good place to stay before our trip to Denali. Had a great time on the Kenai Fjords Boat tour too.
