The Nook's entrance is separate from the hosts. The main room has a comfortable queen sized bed, loveseat, secretary's desk, dresser and Morris chair. The kitchenette is well equipped with a compact refrigerator, microwave, toaster, and Keurig coffee maker, and other kitchen essentials. During the warmer months there is A/C and guests may use the front deck with bistro table and chairs.
Your hosts, Mary and Kevin Bartel, reside in the lower level. They honor their guests privacy but, are happy to assist in making your visit comfortable and making recommendations for outings and dining, etc.!
Guests best suited for The Nook will appreciate the quiet nature of the facility, that there is a shoes off policy, no smoking permitted in or on the premises, and that pets are unable to be accommodated. About our location
The Nook is conveniently located a short walk from Saranac Lakes’ downtown shops, restaurants and artist galleries. The building behind The Nook is BluSeed Studios, featuring art exhibitions, workshops and live music performances. Across the street kitty corner is a small park with a tennis court and basketball court. Less than a mile away is the towns’ municipal beach, park and picnic area at Lake Colby - always a lovely spot to watch the sunset and lower Saranac Lake boat launch, which gives access to the spectacular Saranac chain of lakes.
The town of Saranac Lake serves as a great vacation spot for outdoor enthusiasts, no matter the time of year! Nearby find great road biking, canoeing, hiking, fishing, snow shoeing and x-c skiing. Downhill skiers may explore Titus, Big Tupper and Whiteface Mountains each approximately 30 minutes away. Saranac Lake’s history continues as a health and wellness getaway location. Come see why Saranac Lake is one of the Northeast's pioneering health resorts and why a get away here in the Great North Woods is plain ole healing. Breath, relax, feel and be.
It’s not really a small space … but certainly a cozy place ... one guest said we may want to put a warning on our site - 'don't be surprised if you end up extending your stay!'
We call the upstairs of our home The Nook, as for us it is two floors above where we dwell and it just has a special good feeling to take refuge. The slanted lower ceilings, the lighting, the feng shui gives us that sense. We wish to share the charm of The Nook at Inner Quest with you - visitors, friends, and family. Perhaps when you come, you’ll share in your words how The Nook provided shelter upon return from your ADK outings.
May you be happy, Mary & Kevin

About Mary Bartel
We love the Adirondacks. We moved here together in 1988 so we could live an active yet peaceful mountain lifestyle. We enjoy all seasons playing outdoors: hiking, biking, walking, canoeing, x-c skiing and snow shoeing. Let us help you fall in love with the Adirondacks.
Mary Bartel purchased this House in 2005
Why Mary Bartel chose Saranac Lake
The property was purchased in 2005 to open a Yoga and Wellness Center where locals and visitors could find options for rejuvenating themselves. In June 2013, Kevin and I downsized, sold our home and built an apt. in the basement so we could save money and travel more. In Jan. 2014 the upstairs became available for rent and we decided to turn it into a vacation rental. We felt the nature of the facility, the special services we offer here, and the convenient location to the downtown area would work well for many visitors. We enjoy offering the space and meeting so many nice people.
What makes this House unique
The Nook is like home yet a floor below there are holistic services such as yoga, stretch, and tai chi group or private classes, yoga therapy, massage and other body work services available. The schedule of classes is light offering weekday classes where guests may participate at no extra charge.

A Cozy Nook with some surprises
Cozy even at -20 below. A very comfortable and functional space. Plenty of seating, desk for working and a kitchenette. Parking is spacious.
Mary is right on top of things. Customer centric; a real people person. It was a pleasure working with her.
The two surprises? I brought in a Costco folding chair - better posture for my back (I bring or buy these on most trips $16), Mary asked about it and she got my spiel. She enlightened me to Structural Yoga Therapy. I had a session and it has been very helpful. Now that’s value added. I plan to return.
Surprise #2 - Nori’s health food store and cafe - given my diet (low carb, vegan) but there many nice places to eat in this wonderful town.
A great experience I recommend to others.
So nice to host you and work with you too. I look forward to seeing how you again. All the best to you and your wife in the New Year.
We enjoyed the cozy and spaciousness of “The Nook”
We enjoyed this cozy space nd would definitely stay here again. Would love to explore in the Summer as I’m not a skier.
Thank you Diane. It was nice to meet you and your husband. Thanks so much for the skating tickets, my husband and I had a lovely time at the event ... great seats!
Very comfortable and relaxing
Bed is way to comfortable, can't get out of it till 10. Everything you need for that getaway. Great home base for all the hiking in the area.
Perfect little set up with mini kitchen, bedroom and bath.
Great place and Mary made everything easy and enjoyable. She also arranged a specialized yoga/stretch session for me the day before IRONMAN Lake Placid. I'll be back.
It was our pleasure to host you. See you soon again. Hope you liked the printed sequence of the exercises I presented to you. Be well. Mary
It was very clean and it was a great stay.
Sweet, thank you for booking The Nook.
Cozy and charming
The Nook provided a wonderful and relaxing retreat for a 2-night midweek escape. My husband and I both loved and appreciated the little touches that Mary put into decorating and appointing the space. I particularly enjoyed the gorgeous slipper soak tub after a chilly hike up Cascade Mountain. Very relaxing. Highly recommend breakfast (and dinner) at the Blue Moon cafe. Honestly, the best meal that we've had out in a long time. We will be back for sure!
Thanks for the review. We wish our guests to feel cozy and at home. Do come again!
