This property is our family guest house to the main house. We enjoy sharing it with good people when our grown children and their families are not visiting. The Owl's Nest, named so for the late nights our family worked on it, is well located close to Helen, Clarksville, Cleveland, and Dahlonega. You are just a short drive away from everything in this area.
This cottage is newly renovated from top to bottom. River access is located in front of the main house about 100 yards away. Earth steps lead down the mountain to 300 private feet of the Chattahoochee River. Be advised, a certain amount of physical fitness is required to go up and down the earth steps. (Not recommended for the very young or the very old). We are 66 years old and go up and down them regularly; however, this is the mountains! It's not the beach.
There is no view of the river from the cottage in the summer months because of the rich canopy; however, in the fall and winter you can see dappled views from the fire pit area and deck. You can always hear the water running over the shoals year round.
The cottage has all the basics. Our children made sure it would have everything they needed when they visited, so it does have all essentials plus some: television, Direct TV, landline telephone, DVD player, movies, games and Wifi. There is also a dishwasher, microwave, coffee maker, blender, crock pot, toaster and a washer/dryer(he). The kitchen contains cookware and utensils, and even some extras. Coffee, salt and pepper, coffee filters and all dishes, glasses and cookware are provided. One roll of paper towel to get you started, dish detergent, dishwasher detergent, dish towels, trash bags, tissue, hand soap, bath soap, towels and sheets are all there. All you need to do is walk in, unpack, put up your groceries and enjoy!
The master bedroom has a queen size bed, the upstairs bedroom also has a queen size bed, and the sofa-bed (which is very nice, Sterns and Foster) is also a queen.
The house features a covered deck with a charcoal grill in the fire pit area with Adirondack seating and picnic table.
There is ample parking space, so you may want to bring your kayaks or trailer. Wildwood Outfitters, 5 minutes away, also rents kayaks and has tours. We suggest putting in at Wildwood and taking out at Mossy Creek. Wildwood is set up to help you do this.
There are wineries, antiques, gold and gem mines, mountain restaurants, pony rides, zip lines, cabbage patch babies, kayaking, tubing, water falls, rivers... There is always something to do.
Sorry, no pets.
Presently firewood is provided for your convenience;however, we ask for a reasonable donation based on the amount you use. If no donation is left but firewood is used, we may deduct a reasonable amount from your deposit. Firewood is expensive up here, too!

About Mark and Saralyn Davis
Mark and Saralyn are both retired and thought it would be great fun to buy the cottage next to their home and renovate it for visits from their ever growing family: a guest house. It had wonderful potential and just needed a lot of love. Mark is originally from Covington, Ga. and was in the insurance business for over 40 years. He also played in a band called the Statesboro Blues Band for 26 years. He enjoys repairing, restoring, and building tube amplifiers. He still rocks! Saralyn is a retired school teacher. She taught gifted language arts. She also sang back-up and harmony for her husband's band. She is originally from Sandersville, Ga. The Davis Family has two children who are both married and 2 grandchildren.
Mark and Saralyn Davis purchased this Cottage in 2012
Why Mark and Saralyn Davis chose Habersham County
We purchased this property because we have a growing family and we knew this would make a perfect guest house. Our children and their families love the North Georgia Mountains. They helped design the cottage to meet their needs, so we know it will meet yours. We always loved vacationing in this area because of the cooler summers and breathtaking views. This cottage provided us an opportunity to share our love of the Northeast Georgia Mountains with our family and many others. Many renters have suggested we raise our price, but we like making it affordable.
What makes this Cottage unique
The secluded setting allows people to unwind from the daily rat race and enjoy nature and the activities it affords. The river is heard all over the mountain. October: The fall is stunning in the foothills and mountains. The leaves are magnificent. Depending on the weather, the leaves peak about the 3rd or 4th week in October and have actually peaked the first week of November. Helen, the Bavarian Village, celebrates October-fest the entire month with an array of activities. The Chattahoochee River is gorgeous. It is called the Living River because it sings. Kayakers, swimmers, and fisherman love it. There are many wineries in the area that are stunning. Antiquing: This is the area for magnificent finds. There are a plethora of antique shops filled with unique and interesting items.

The cabin was very clean and decorated so perfect! When you walked in, you felt right at home. We were in town for my nieces graduation so we were in and out! Very convenient to clarkesville and Cornelia! Thanks to the wonderful host!
The cabin is very nice! Great place for relaxing! Loved the outside area and my girls loved “hanging out” in the hammock. The river is a difficult trek for sure to get too! Beautiful view though!
We are so glad you enjoyed yourselves. Come see us again!
This was everything we hoped for!! The owners had it very well equipped for us to come into town , gongrocery shopping and just enjoy the rest! We will definitely be going again! Thank you!
Super clean and well provisioned
Couldn't have asked for a more relaxing setting to unwind from the busy holidays. So clean..and lots of extras...you both have thought of everything.! Games movies and awesome outside fireplace. Bring your wood from home to really enjoy many nights. Thank you for a restful stay!
wonderful, relaxing get-a-way
Enjoyed our stay! Wonderful people to work with!
Adorable, beautiful setting.
Owners were responsive, warm and friendly. Cabin/house isn't directly on the river, but very close. Firepit was amazing.
You can hear the Chattahoochee River from the deck of this lovely cottage. ,This section of Chattahoochee is called the living river because of the shoals and falls. Guests love fishing, swimming, and kayaking in the 'Hooch'. The cottage is located within minutes of Helen- the Alpine Mountain Village-, Tallulah Falls and Tallulah Gorge - where hiking trails are great fun-, and Dahlonega - where GOLD was discovered in Georgia. You can pan for gold and gem stones at several locations. While in Helen, don't miss Unicoi State Park. Cleveland, only minutes away, is where you can find Baby Land General - The Cabbage Patch Babies! There are many wineries located in this area and wine tastings held daily. You can also visit Clayton and Dillard where the views of the Blue Ridge Mountains are stunning. Be sure to eat at the Dillard House! There is NO food like it on the planet. The Upper Chattahoochee and the Soque Rivers are world renowned for their trout. There are also many festivals held in the area: gold, apple, mountain laurel, arts and crafts, wine, and on and on. There is always something going on.
