About William and Susan Vogel

Located in the charming resort town of Glen Arbor and walkable to everything which is important during the summer when parking is at a premium, from restraunts to art galleries, and all sorts of recreation opportunities.

William and Susan Vogel purchased this house in 2005

Why William and Susan Vogel chose Glen Arbor

We have been coming up to Glen Arbor for years and kept looking for that perfect place for our second home. The place we envisioned just didn't seem to exist so we finally built it! Based on the floor plans of great resorts that we have stayed at, Bearberry House allows for all guests to have their own space (and bathroom) as well as ample inside and outside areas for everyone to gather together. We planned for good - and not so good - weather by having a large screened-in porch as well as an even larger two-tiered deck - both with seating for everyone. Our location is quiet enough to see and hear the wildlife, yet close enough to be able to walk to the grocery store ... and pretty much everything else in town!

What makes this house unique

Walkable to everything in Glen Arbor: Shops, Galleries, Cherry Republic, Crystal River Kayaking, Glen Arbor Park and Tennis Courts, Art's Tavern, Western Avenue Grill, Boonedocks, Blu, Lake Michigan Beach, Alligator Hill Hiking/X-country Ski trails, biking, hiking and more!

Perfect Michigan Vacation Home

  • 5 of 5

Bearberry House is a beautiful, well-appointed house that made our family vacation extra special. The house offered every amenity necessary for a relaxing, comfortable stay. The house was spotless and it was evident that the owners take excellent care of their home. The owner provided excellent service. For example, the owner of the hardware store in Glen Arbor stopped by at the owner's request to make sure we had adequate gas for the outside grill. The location added to the enjoyment. We could walk to the tennis courts, playground, restaurants, grocery store, quaint shops and a putt-putt golf course was only a block away! We went to various Lake Michigan beaches every day--we especially liked the Empire Beach and the area where the Platte River flows into Lake Michigan. My granddaughters demanded to climb the Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes each day and since they were only about ten minutes away, it was very doable. I would definitely recommend Bearberry House!!

We were 4 couples celebrating a 50th anniversary and some golf. Trying to find a 4 bedroom with each bedroom having an ensuite was a difficult task until we found Bearberry House. This home in Glen Arbor is absolutely fantastic. The photos in the VRBO do not give it justice. All of us said "wow" when we entered. It was like walking into a Home and Garden set - the bear theme throughout the home was perfect. Sitting on the deck watching fawns, deer and "large" raccoons could not be better. The capability of walking to restaurants (Note: Arts Tavern is cash only) and the market was great. One could not beat watching the sun setting over Lake Michigan. For golf, Manitou Passage and Champion Hills are highly recommended with Sugar Loaf and Mistwood recommended for value.

The owners were very quick to reply and take action to any query. The cost is reasonable when you split the total between 4 couples. This VRBO is highly recommended, especially for 4 couples. Thanks, Des

This is a spectacular rental. The moment we walked in we were delighted with the layout, cleanliness and beauty of the house and surroundings. It was much more impressive than even the pictures suggested. It is the best stocked house we have ever rented with more than adequate kitchen supplies, paper goods and soap. The location is wonderful, within walking distance of everything in Glen Arbor. We spent an afternoon riding bikes as the bike trail runs in front of the house. Despite the noncompliance of the weather, one day full of rain, the puzzles in the house (and wifi connections) kept everyone entertained. The owners were spectacular, sending an incredible amount of information about the area before arrival, and calling the day we arrived to be sure everything was in order. My wife fell in love with the house and we are trying to arrange our schedule so we can return again.

Owner's Response: Thank you for such nice words! We are proud of our central location within Glen Arbor and the easy access to activities in and around Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore - the Heritage Trail is one more way to be active in a beautiful setting! In addition to hiking/biking the trail, the portion of the trail between Glen Arbor and Glen Haven is groomed all winter for cross-country skiing! We hope you will stay with us again soon.

My dad rented this house for our family for a week and it was perfect! It has 5 bedrooms each with its own TV and bathroom. The kitchen is beautiful and has everything you could ever need for cooking. The beds are extremely comfortable and the linens are beautiful. The living area is great with comfy couches and a huge flat screen TV. There is even a screened in porch, an amazing outdoor deck with table for 8 people (plus extra chairs if you need them.) We used the huge grill on the deck several times, including twice for the salmon we caught on Lake Michigan. It did a great job! The front lawn was quiet with Adirondack chairs to relax in and watch the birds and chipmunks. The location is perfect-walking distance to all shops, restaurants, etc. Loved our stay and hope to go back next summer!

Perfect Wedding Weekend Getaway

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I spent a long weekend with our wedding party and friends during our wedding weekend and couldn't have been happier with our stay. The house provided the perfect amount of privacy and community among our diverse group of friends. The house was far more beautiful than the pictures and was very close to downtown shops and beach access. The Glen Arbor, Sutton's Bay, Traverse City area is our favorite. We've stayed in this part of Northern Michigan many times throughout the years but Bearberry House has been our favorite thus far. Not only was the location perfect for shopping, eating at nearby restaurants, bike riding, and kayaking, but the house was spacious, yet cozy and inviting.

Bearberry House

  • 5 of 5

My family spent a week at the Bearberry House and couldn't be happier with our stay. The home is beautiful, fully equipped, located within walking distance to all the shops and restaurants in the area and was so comfortable. We had 8 adults and 4 children and we had so much fun playing games, cooking, sightseeing and exploring the area. Our greatest accomplishment was climbing Sleeping Bear Dunes! This part of Michigan is gorgeous and clean. There are so many things to see and do but it doesn't feel "touristy". The flowers around Glen Arbor were blooming and so many varieties! The grandchildren loved seeing the wildlife including black squirrels, deer and even a porcupine! The owners were so accommodating and gracious. Be sure to take the Sleeping Bear scenic drive and try to climb it (if you dare)! We also visited a lighthouse and Fish Town and had a wonderful time there. We would love to come back some day and wouldn't consider staying anywhere else.
