"We stayed here on Labor Day weekend, the cabin was perfect for our family of 4. It was simple yet sufficient for our family, if you are looking for something extravagant this is not the place for you. The location was absolutely amazing the area is one of the most pristine and beautiful I have been to in Northern Michigan (this was not our first time in the region), one thing that stood out the most for me is that we did not need to get into the car to go to the dunes, the Heritage Bike Trail is literally across the street and the main Dune Climb is a short bike/walk. The bike ride to Glen Arbor was about 4 miles and we stopped at Glen Haven about half way and watched a blacksmith make a coat hook and looked at some old boats, there is also a Lk Mich Beach there. Our boys and I loved fishing in the crystal clear Little Glen and just relaxing on the shore. If you like craft beer there is no brewery but go to Art's Tavern, Short's makes a beer specifically for them. A larger beach area would have been nice, some of the brush growth could be cleared out from either side to enhance the view of the lake and enlarge the beach area, and have the beach area more maintained lots of reeds growing on it. Also, linens would've been nice but weren't a deal breaker."

  • Just What We Needed

"We just returned from a week at Grove House and had the best time ever. The property is secluded but within walking distance of the town of Empire, the Sleeping Bear Heritage bike trail, and Lake Michigan. It is peaceful and quiet there. Our dogs were able to roam the grounds off leash (not possible in the city where they live) and we spent many hours on the enclosed porch, watching the wildlife or catching up on our reading. It was truly the rest and recuperation we both needed after a really hard winter and work schedule. The place is spotless, well equipped, and the owners are tremendously helpful. Will definitely visit again."

  • Best of both worlds - located on powerful Lake Michigan AND peaceful South Bar Lake

"My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our relaxing stay at this beach house. Just steps out the front of the house, you have breathtaking views of Lake Michigan and Sleeping Bear Dunes. Off your back porch, you're sitting on peaceful South Bar Lake. The number of wildlife we encountered during our stay was unbelievable! Deer, chipmunks, squirrels, beavers, ducks, birds and even a bald eagle visited daily. We enjoyed our little family of deer who came by daily to say hi - including two fawns who rested near the edge of South Bar Lake, at the bottom of the stairs leading to the private dock. We loved the proximity to Sleeping Bear Dunes, Glen Arbor and even took the short trip over to Traverse City one day. We rode our bikes into Glen Arbor one afternoon and took a kayak out for a tour of the lake. We walked into downtown Empire one night for ice cream at Tiffany's which was amazing! We also rode bikes to Village Inn Pizza for dinner one night and also tried out Joe's Friendly Tavern - recommend both of them. The public beach and park is a short 3-5 minute walk and is very clean and well kept. The house is charming and has everything you need to enjoy your stay. We loved it and will hopefully visit again soon."

  • Great Location

"We stayed at this home August 1st-8th. Unfortunately, on our second day an incredible storm (100 mph straight line winds) hit the Sleeping Bear area and ravaged Glen Arbor (and our vacation!) Our stay was Saturday-Saturday and we were without power from Sunday-Friday evening. All the parks were closed for the length of our trip (including the dune climb right across the street!) due to downed trees (everywhere). We had a week's worth of food and no refrigeration, showers, or toilets. This trip was a dream for my mother and she spent more than she ever has to rent this home for her children, their significant others, and her husband. After a day of flushing the toilets with lake water and buying lots of ice, the owner drove 5 hours to save our vacation (we were just about to leave!) Chris brought a gigantic generator and enough gasoline for the week. He spent two hours installing it to the entire home, bringing not only electricity but water (hot water!) He then turned around and drove 5 hours home in the middle of the night. We were so grateful for Elizabeth and Chris's kindness and generosity. We were able to share these resources with the neighbors and make the most of the vacation (and beautiful Little Glen Lake). This vacation was not what we had hoped for, but to no fault of the owners of this property. Below are some positive things to note about this vacation home: - Location: right across from the Dune Climb and Sleeping Bear Heritage Trail and directly on Little Glen Lake! Also close to Alligator Trail and biking (and running) distance from the town of Glen Arbor (located between Empire and Glen Arbor). - Condition: the home was not updated but very clean. The kitchen has everything you could need (maybe too much!) - Comfort: we slept 7 comfortably (our 8th member canceled his flight due to the storm!) - Bathrooms: 2 full baths, 1 bathroom with a toilet (small shower but it was broken when we were there) and an outdoor shower. - Outdoor space: great deck, dock, grill, and picnic table. The home also comes with a row boat and a canoe. The water is shallow and crystal clear. Thank you again to Elizabeth and her father Chris for going out of their way to make our stay more comfortable during an unforeseen situation. We would highly recommend this property to their hospitality, the location, and the space it provided our family."
