About David and Pearle Howell
Come kayak with us. We leave 3 kayaks, canoe, rowboat and paddle board for your use. We have had many happy travelers visit the Owls Nest and enjoy our quiet cove. Our family enjoys Christmas here every year in this cozy retreat. My Canadian wife gets her skiing 'fix' at nearby Wisp. We personally maintain and clean the home before and after each booking. We have many years of experience renting the Owls Nest to travelers. We try to be flexible with move in and move out times and all money is refunded if you contact owner directly so that the owner enters the cancellation into VRBO..
David and Pearle Howell purchased this Cabin in 1987
Why David and Pearle Howell chose Penelacres
We bought this property because of the western exposure of the lakefront, location at the end of a peninsula with no drive thru traffic, and clean, deep lake water on a quiet cove. The property is four miles from Lodestone and 6 miles from Wisp Ski Resort and offers year round enjoyment. The location is perfect for all water sports. Our cove is out of the lake boat traffic. We provide canoe, kayaks, paddleboard and life jackets. Deep water off the our own dock is suitable for swimming and diving. Can dock renters's boat.
What makes this Cabin unique
We will offer full owner refund if less than 14 days if you contact us and we submit cancellation to VRBO. Our intent is “safer than home”. • Our property is our own separate lot, yard, decks, docks and hot tub • Our dock is not shared with anybody. Free use of our four kayaks, a canoe, paddle board, & rowboat. • Our outdoor fire pit is not shared with lots of firewood for your use. • The Owls Nest has a private play structure, which is pressure washed often. • Our hot tub water is fully (usually), or partially, changed with every rental. Owners have MD Commercial Pool/Hot Tub license. Instead of continually adding chemicals, we change water. We have changed to a more positive sanitizing schedule, based on bromine and dichlor based shock. No others are involved in cabin cleaning or general maintenance. Between renters…… The cabin is completely misted (twice) inside with 4% Hydrogen Peroxide. • All bedding is washed, between renters, not just sheets. • All pillows on the sofas are washed or have the covers washed. • CDC cleaning guidance is being followed. We sanitize All surfaces, including leather sofas, chairs, dressers, tables with Lysol. • Bathroom and kitchen appliances, All remotes, TV, DVD, fans, heaters/ AC, phone, computer monitor, keyboard and mouse are wiped with Lysol. • We have our own dry foam carpet cleaner, at the cabin. Before the new renter comes in, the cabin, is misted again with hydrogen peroxide. Local Restaurants now offer take- out and delivery. Outdoor eating is now (5/30) allowed. Grocery stores in McHenry and Oakland (Walmart) have food. Deep Creek Beveridge liquor store has a drive through. State parks are accessible for hiking, etc but have visitor’s high density public areas etc., closed. The Owls Nest allows you a safe, space and satisfying recreational activity, without having to having to engage in risky interpersonal contact.

Great getaway! We enjoyed fishing, kayaking, and the hot tub. And thanks for the smores!
Owl's Nest is the Best
We had a wonderful, relaxing weekend at the Owl's Nest. Weather was very nice so we canoed around the lake, beautiful hike to Swallow Falls and relaxing soak in the hot tub in the evenings. The cabin is very nice and very clean with all the amenities, board games and movies you could want for a weekend (or weeks-long) get away. Highly recommend Owl's Nest for your next stay at Deep Creek Lake!
Perfect for a romantic get away!
Cozy little cottage with a beautiful view right on the lake! While the cottage is very small, it was perfect for a weekend get away for my husband and I. Dave and Pearle were very active hosts- texting prior to check-in, did a spring clean prior to our arrival, filled hot tub with new water, and checking in once more prior to check-out. The wood burning stove was pre- set with logs and ready to light with matches provided- they left candy, pop corn, and even a bottles of jam and wine to partake in as a thank you for renting with them. They truly care about their renters’ experience. We will definitely be back!
Great Cabin getaway for all ages
Our group only stayed a couple of days but there were easily enough activities to keep us busy for another week. The property was fantastic, it had a wonderful cozy atmosphere. The scenery was beautiful and the amenities were all in fantastic condition. The kitchen was stocked with all sorts of tools and other essentials. Having complimentary firewood was also a great touch. All around, we had a great experience and if we ever return to the area, we will most likely come back to Owl's Nest.
Dave and Pearle waste no expense in making their home comfortable and easy for their guests. The location couldn't be better! Private and beautiful, it even snowed while we were visiting and it was magical. Thank you again, I really hope to make it back to the Owls Nest in the future!
