Cozy Cabin with Stunning Lake View and Direct Access to the BWCA in Ely, MN
The Rookery at Vosburgh’s Custom Cabin Rentals
Set high above Moose Lake, The Rookery is a cozy, light-filled two-bedroom cabin with sweeping views toward the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. Large screened windows welcome the lake breeze, while a lake-facing porch provides a peaceful place for morning coffee, listening to loons or watching the evening light over Moose Lake.
Best of all, you’ll be staying at one of Ely’s few cabin resorts located directly on a BWCAW entry lake. From our central landing on Moose Lake—Entry Point 25—you can paddle or boat directly into the Boundary Waters without driving or shuttling to another launch.
The Rookery sleeps four and is an ideal home base for couples, small families, anglers and anyone looking to experience the Boundary Waters while still enjoying the comforts of a cabin.
THE CABIN
The Rookery has two private bedrooms: one with a queen bed and a second with two twin beds. A full bathroom includes a shower.
The open kitchen and living area features a fully equipped kitchen with a stove, oven, refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, cookware and dishes. A freestanding wood-burning stove makes the cabin especially cozy on cool Northwoods evenings.
One of The Rookery’s best features is its large screened windows, which fill the cabin with natural light and take advantage of the beautiful views and breezes coming off Moose Lake.
Bed linens and blankets are provided. Guests should bring their own kitchen and bath towels.
DIRECT ACCESS TO THE BOUNDARY WATERS
Vosburgh’s is located directly on Moose Lake, BWCAW Entry Point 25. Guests can launch a canoe or boat from our landing and travel directly into the Boundary Waters.
This makes The Rookery a great basecamp for day paddles, fishing adventures and exploring canoe country without having to pack up and drive to another entry point each morning.
There are also excellent hiking opportunities nearby, including Secret/Blackstone and Kawishiwi Falls, as well as many other outdoor adventures around Ely.
BOAT INCLUDED WITH WEEKLY STAYS
Stays of seven nights or longer include use of a 16-foot Lund fishing boat and canoe. Motors are rented separately, and guests may also bring their own motor of 25 hp or less.
Additional rentals and services may include 25 hp motors, trolling motors, depth finders, canoes and other fishing equipment. Live bait, docks and a screened fish-cleaning house are also available at the resort.
Our central waterfront and boat landing are a short walk or approximately two-minute drive from The Rookery.
FISH, PADDLE, SWIM & EXPLORE
Moose Lake offers excellent opportunities for fishing, boating, paddling and swimming. Anglers can pursue walleye, northern pike, smallmouth bass and lake trout in the surrounding waters.
Families can spend the day swimming from the docks, take a canoe into the BWCAW, explore nearby hiking trails or simply enjoy an afternoon at the cabin.
Wildlife is part of everyday life here. Loons, eagles, otters and other Northwoods wildlife are frequently seen around the lake, and evenings bring quiet skies and incredible stargazing.
A FAMILY-RUN MOOSE LAKE RESORT

Our property includes several cabins, so guests have the privacy of their own cabin while also having access to shared resort amenities including our waterfront, docks, boat landing, boathouse and fish-cleaning house.
WIFI & CELL SERVICE
Fast reliable satellite internet is available. Cell service can also be limited depending on your carrier. Many guests consider that part of the appeal of spending a week on Moose Lake.
PETS
The Rookery is pet-friendly. Pets must be supervised and may not be left unattended in the cabin. Please review our pet policies before arrival.
GOOD TO KNOW
The Rookery is available seasonally, generally May through October. Most summer reservations are Saturday-to-Saturday, although shorter and more flexible stays may be available depending on the season.
Free parking is available on the property. Smoking is not permitted inside the cabin.
Guests planning to enter the BWCAW are responsible for obtaining any required permits. Please feel free to contact us with questions about local entry points, routes or trip planning.
YOUR NORTHWOODS BASECAMP
The Rookery gets its name from the bird colonies—or “rookeries”—found in this wild corner of northern Minnesota. It’s a fitting name for a cabin designed for settling in, slowing down and enjoying the surroundings.
Spend your mornings listening to loons, your days fishing Moose Lake or paddling into the Boundary Waters, and your evenings relaxing above the lake.
Whether you come for fishing, a family vacation, a Boundary Waters adventure or simply some quiet time in the Northwoods, The Rookery offers a comfortable home base with something increasingly hard to find: direct access to the wilderness right from the resort.

My family and I had a great time staying at the Vosburgh's Custom Cabins -- "Thye's Cabin"! The cabin was cozy and had all the amenities we needed, i.e. wifi, cooking, blankets, etc. Having a private dock, a canoe, and renting a kayak were extra bonuses to be able to enjoy Moose Lake and all the views. We had a lot of loons come by and saw lots of eagles too. At night we'd sit on the patio watching movies and the wildlife. Also, we'd get in a paddle or a quick swim to watch the sunset. Lots of trails nearby to hike and see the sites. The Vosburgh family and crew were great! They were so friendly and quick to help with answers. You can tell they really love it up there! You have to see the view from their place - Wow, it's beautiful! They reassured us too we were fine in regards to the wildfires and would keep us posted in case anything changed. I'd love to go back and would definitely recommend Vosburgh's Custom Cabins. Thank you Vosburghs!
We had a great time relaxing and fishing. Tha staff was very helpful and made sure we had everything we needed. The view from the cabin was breathtaking. Looking forward to a return trip.
We really enjoyed the cabin and the facilities. You can't beat that view of the lake from the living room!
Willy was great to work with and helped us have a very relaxing, memorable trip!
This cabin is absolutely amazing. Windows overlooking moose lake, without any cabins or structures on the other side of the lake, giving you that secluded feeling we were looking for. The staff are great, happy to facilitate your needs and will set you up with a boat to go out into the boundary waters right from their dock. The only problem I had was I didn’t want to leave!
