Staying in a neighborhood, as opposed to a hotel, guarantees a true feel of a place. Smell sweet olive, taste warm and sugary beignets, see grand mansions and creole cottages and hear music reflective of this city with a deep soul and spirit. Our Nola home is situated in the riverbend in Uptown, just one block off Oak Street, a recently renovated commercial corridor loaded with coffee shops, yoga studios, classic businesses, restaurants and 2 of New Orleans' most revered locations: The Maple Leaf bar and Jaques-Imo's. The house itself is one half of a double, approximately 1400 sq ft, and includes 2 bedrooms The place can sleep 8 as there is a full sized bed, a twin with trundle, a queen sofa bed and a full sized mattress) 2 full bathrooms, and plenty of space to stretch out and relax. The house is a traditional shotgun, meaning all the rooms line up in a row, however, there is an additional camelback (essentially a second floor) which features a private bedroom with a full sized bed, a walk-in closet, and a full bathroom. There is a queen sized sofa bed in the living room. We also have an air mattress which can be set up in one of the other rooms. The eat-in kitchen has all of the basics for meal preparation. We have a traditional range/stove. We have a toaster oven and a coffee maker. We have WiFi, but no TV--there is too much to see and do in Nola to be sitting in watching television. One of the highlights of our place is the front porch which is quite lovely for a break from exploration or for kicking back with an Abita and some conversation with neighbors while listening to some WWOZ or WTUL. For more privacy, the back yard is set up with a table and chairs—perfect for setting up a spread of po’ boys and red beans and rice. Our neighborhood is funky and fun, full of all different kinds of people and places to explore. Favorite local spots are right around the corner: Grab an amazing burger at The Cowbell, a pastry and loaf of fresh baked bread at Breads on Oak, or a cafe au lait at the Rue de la Course. Restaurant choices abound--all within a few blocks. Tapas, Thai, sushi, pizza, middle-eastern. It is easy to feel like you are a part of the community here. Folks are friendly, hospitable and ready to chat about great bands to check out or share stories about the last festival. By the way, you will find there is no shortage of festivals in this city--there is always a reason to celebrate! In fact, the Po' Boy Fest (held the 2nd weekend of November) happens right here. You can literally sit on the porch and sample the city's best po' boys and enjoy music unmatched by any other city. You can't visit New Orleans without riding the street car. Fortunately, you can walk a few blocks, up to Carrollton Street and catch one. Audubon Park and the universities are just around the bend and the magnificence of St. Charles will have you captivated as you head to the French Quarter.
My husband and I were committed to the revitalization of Nola after Hurricane Katrina. Our best friend is a realtor and he helped us to find this home. At the time, the house needed a great deal of TLC. Much of our own sweat went into the restoration of this house.
Cute little place close to everything you need! Nice and clean.
My family and I stayed here 4th of July weekend. We were thoroughly pleased with the home. The home does not have a television which was mentioned in the listing. I thought that it would be an issue but we really did not miss it as the home has WiFI. WE really just were there to sleep and enjoy the beautiful city and hang out with friends and family. The location is great.
Plenty of room for us. Loved having two bathrooms. Kids loved playing in the different rooms. Would recommend this to anyone visiting New Orleans and would stay in this house again.
The location is awesome. It's close to the street car and uber was cheap to the places we went. (Bourbon, French market, and even local food places uber drivers suggested.) The pictures does not do this place justice. It is way bigger and everyone had their own space. Even though we found it better to invade each others space. When we had a problem, (not really big) they came by to help. I will be looking at this property for my next trip.
There were 9 of us guys that were meeting in New Orleans for a few days of fun. The house was perfect! Lots of beds and extra space for air mattresses. The neighborhood was great with a few great bars/restaurants/music venues nearby. Overally a great stay! Owners were so nice and very quick to respond to messages. Thanks again!
Came into town to celebrate my best friends marriage. Jennifer is the best house is awesome for the value! Was really suprised on how great Uber worked to. better than normal taxi almost like a local tour guide
