About the property

High Desert Getaway. Hot Tub, Homestead Cabin, Views, And Stunning Boulders!

"Stop looking for other listings, this is the one... from hot tub stargazing to the amazing hikes right in the backyard, we honestly didn't leave for three days."

- Steven, San Francisco

An artistic and comfortable two bedroom home plus two sleeping cabins, we were a star feature on the recent Parade of Homes tour. We are located at the end of a dirt road and nestled in five acres of surreal boulder landscape. We are equally close to the Park entrance and Pappy & Harriet's. Off the back porch is 200 acres of park-like desert to explore. Loaded with features and nice touches, and . . . the most sublime hot tub experience in the high desert!

** NOTE: The listed base rate is for the main house - up to FOUR GUESTS. Rates including the sleeping cabins are structured according to guest count. Please read rates carefully when requesting a booking. We keep the maximum at eight guests.

There are stunning boulder views from every window. Outside, enjoy the back porch, the 'lookout lounge' which overlooks the town of Joshua Tree and the national park, a hot tub, a cowboy tub, a yoga deck, a horseshoe pit, a barbecue area (gas & charcoal), great hangout spots, and more boulder piles than you can explore in a weekend.

Just off the back porch is over 250 acres of pristine desert for you to explore. Nothing but boulders, joshua trees, wildlife . . . And silence!

A scenic walking bridge takes you to a new six person saltwater hot tub surrounded by boulders - a stargazer's dream!

We are uniquely situated between the national park entrance in Joshua Tree and Pappy & Harriet's in Pioneertown - the best daytime and nighttime activities the high desert has to offer.

Or. . . You may decide you don't want to leave Sweet Rock at all!

About John Henson

As longtime desert enthusiasts, we have stayed at many rentals in the area and noted the many things that we appreciate in a good rental experience. After an extensive search, we found this uniquely wonderful property and spent two years customizing every detail in order to create what is now one of the best rental properties in the entire high desert.

A peaceful place to get-away

  • 5 of 5

We needed a place for a quick get-away and Sweet Rock Ranch was perfect. It has everything you need including a spa, cowboy plunge (outside tub), hiking and great outdoor furniture to sit and enjoy a glass of wine or two or three...The kitchen is well equipped with all the gadgets and blenders you'll need to make yourself that perfect margarita. The location is close to everything you want to do, see, hear in Joshua Tree.

The owners are quickly responsive and aim to please. I'll definately go back.

Delicious Desert Getaway

  • 5 of 5

What a great place! You COULD spend the entire time in the hot tub, or climbing the rocks just outside, or exploring the whole area on a hike, or watching the birds/rabbits/squirrels/chipmunks at the bird feeder, or hanging out by the fire pit or the fireplace...but then you'd miss all the other cool stuff to do in the area, so well-documented in the handy book on the coffee table. This is a great location to explore the area. DO NOTE that the outboard casitas do not have bathrooms or even toilets; that was a bummer for us when we got there (though documented on the website - "no bathrooms", we somehow missed that detail). Everything else is perfectly appointed and well-thought-out, comfortable, welcoming, beautifully maintained and terrific.

Beautiful property with perfect amenities

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at Sweet Rock was perfect in every way. John greeted us upon our arrival, gave us a tour and ensured we had everything we needed. The kids loved exploring the property, complete privacy and expansive views. The house was well stocked with everything we needed, and John and Deva were only a text away if we had any questions or issues (we didn’t!). This truly felt like a home away from home, cozy, warm, and comfortable. If we ever find our way back to the Joshua Tree area, this is where we’ll stay.

Respite from the world

  • 5 of 5

Our group has visited Sweet Rock Ranch the past few years in September for our annual trip to Joshua Tree. We have stayed at other places in the area, and Sweet Rock is far and away our favorite. The house and surrounding environment are comfortable, peaceful, and relaxing. The house is clean, functionally designed, and artistically decorated. An exquisite place!

Family, wildlife, and nature bonding at it's best!

  • 5 of 5

This place was fantastic! Bunnies, and quail, and chipmunks (etc.) oh my! They are right outside the door for feeding and viewing. It's natural setting is exactly what we wanted: big boulders, Joshua trees, hot tub, and perfect lighting to view the starry nights. The owners are attentive and respond quickly to questions and give great suggestions. The house is clean, well maintained, and loved. Our favorite part was the family bonding. The house and surroundings set the atmosphere for great family time and activities.

Relax, Refresh, Rejuvenate

  • 5 of 5

We went there to unplug and that's exactly what we did. It has everything that you would want for recharging. The house is comfortable and beautifully decorated. It reaches out and hugs you. Every little detail was thought through in this house. Upon arrival there is an Arrival Notebook which has everything outlined right down to Do's and Don'ts and helpful tips about the area. We loved Sweet Rock Ranch.
