About Clifford and Dora Scott

My husband and I live in Virginia Beach, he is a long shoreman and I manage a dental practice and we both work for Twiddy cleaning a large beach house on sundays. I graduated from Kellam High School and my husband graduated from Currituck High School and we have enjoyed carova beach since we were children. We have rented homes here at the beach and on the canals since 1995. We have traveled all over the world but could never imagine vacationing anywhere better than Carova Beach.

Clifford and Dora Scott purchased this cottage in 2014

Why Clifford and Dora Scott chose Northern Coast & Outer Banks

My husband and I grew up enjoying carova beach all our lives and In 1997, the year after we were married, we were the first family to rent this home. We talked about how much fun we had and how we would love to own this piece of paradise. All I can say is never stop chasing your dreams. This year we bought our dream home 20 years later and with a little TLC we love it more today then we could even have imagine back then.

What makes this cottage unique

The views, seclusion and close proximity to the beach and sound, makes this home a one of a kind. The comfortable decor and abundance of amenities make it easy to feel like your own slice of paradise. Just minutes to the surf where you can drive right up sink a chair, grab a book, and watch the water roll over your feet as all your stress rolls right away. The home has a boat launch and dock if you bring your own boat we are just minutes from Knotts Island, NC across the sound.

The perfect canal house in OBX

  • 5 of 5

As part of our family reunion, (involving two houses) Cliff and Dora's house was the perfect getaway, packed with toys like kayaks, a crabpot, a great boat dock, swings, chairs and decks galore. We actually made quite a few runs to pick up guests across the sound in our boat, and the location was perfect, right near the entrance. Other guests drove up the beach, a once in a lifetime experience that they raved about. Being just a short 15-20 minute walk to the Atlantic Ocean on the sand paths made for easy living. The house was neat and clean, had soft linens, a well equipped kitchen. Dora and Scott are hosts with a whole lot of experience.

Absolutely beautiful getaway!

  • 5 of 5

The house is in a very remote part of OBX, so be prepared to get there and stay the whole week. My family loved kayaking, building fires, hanging in the hot tub and going to the beach. We were blessed to be visited by horses every day! The house is one of the most well-stocked I've stayed in and the owners are super responsive. It's a vacation my three boys will never forget!

Our "Adventure" vacation

  • 5 of 5

As first timers to the 4 wheel drive section of the Outer Banks, we had no idea what to expect. Very heavy rains the day before; and day of, our arrival had turned the 'roads' into mini swamps. I managed to scoot across the bay from Coinjock in our boat in about 30 minutes, dodging storms. However, my wife and daughter/son-in-law had to drive around, first dealing with traffic, then the driving windy rain on the beach. THANK GOODNESS that Reid and Dora happened to be in Corolla, and they found my crew and lead them up the beach. My wife was exhilarated just from the drive in. Said she would not have done it without Dora and Reid leading the way. The Scott's were great and responsive to any and every need. The house is completely furnished, down to beach towels, sunscreen, coffee, beach chairs and kayaks. The upper deck provide stunning sunset views; with abundant wildlife. The kitchen, den, and one bedroom are on the 3rd level, and was cozy but comfortable. Our daughters and men stayed on the 2nd level in the 3 bedrooms there. Nearly all of our time was spent outside, either on the dock or boat, or on the several decks around the house. The gas grill worked without fail; and we ended up eating only one meal out for the entire week. It is probably a good 5 minute ride out to the beach--a little too far to walk, but since you drive on the beach anyway, the distance really is not a factor. I think due to the weather, we only had internet service for maybe 24 hours. We could connect to the network, but network would not connect to internet. Blame that on the DSL, but we 'connected' in other ways. Hardly cut television on the entire week. We were able to use our boat to explore and ski in the bay; the kayaks were used every day and we caught a few crabs and fish. You do need to bring any water you plan to consume, including water for ice. Even though Reid has filters, you can't escape the 'beach water' syndrome; which I am sure is true of any house there. Terrific responsive owners, beautiful sunsets, and away from it all.

Beautiful Home! Worked great for our family - kayaks, horses, 4WD Heaven,

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time at Salty Kisses. The home has a great layout (we have twin teens and a 7 year old) and is beautifully decorated. The home owners are extremely nice and responsive. The kitchen had plenty of cookware and utensils, there were beach towels available, board games, books, and a wonderful fire-pit.

The horses grazed in the yard most everyday. We enjoyed kayaking the canals and sound. The beach is beautiful. A high clearance 4WD is a must! Our Suburban and Yukon did just fine - we let our 16 year olds drive the beach and they loved it! Bring lots of water and stop by the Volunteer Fire Department for ice. - Hope to return

Beautiful, spacious, perfect!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for a week with our kids and their significant others for our 30th wedding anniversary. Dora and Clifford were so accommodating and we actually got to meet them as they have other properties in the area they were maintaining and dock their boat at the house. We highly recommend that you follow the directions on this website as our GPS ended us up in the protected area for the wild horses and our rented 4wd got stuck and we ended up paying $670 for a tow and could have been fined for trespassing! Also, 4wd is absolutely a must.

We were visited by horses just about every day and during a fire, s'mores and sing-a-long session one night, we had some hang out with us for about 15 minutes. AMAZING! We also saw deer, osprey, blue herron, otters and dolphin.

The beds were comfortable, the house was clean, kitchen was well equipped and there are some spices and cocktail mixers left from previous guests that was quite a nice surprise.

Smart TVs in every room and decent Wi-Fi, although we spent most nights playing games and listening to music.

Thank you Dora and Cliff for allowing us to enjoy your home.
