About Clifford and Dora Scott
My husband and I live in Virginia Beach, he is a long shoreman and I manage a dental practice and we both work for Twiddy cleaning a large beach house on sundays. I graduated from Kellam High School and my husband graduated from Currituck High School and we have enjoyed carova beach since we were children. We have rented homes here at the beach and on the canals since 1995. We have traveled all over the world but could never imagine vacationing anywhere better than Carova Beach.
Clifford and Dora Scott purchased this Cottage in 2014
Why Clifford and Dora Scott chose Corolla
My husband and I grew up enjoying carova beach all our lives and In 1997, the year after we were married, we were the first family to rent this home. We talked about how much fun we had and how we would love to own this piece of paradise. All I can say is never stop chasing your dreams. This year we bought our dream home 20 years later and with a little TLC we love it more today then we could even have imagine back then.
What makes this Cottage unique
The views, seclusion and close proximity to the beach and sound, makes this home a one of a kind. The comfortable decor and abundance of amenities make it easy to feel like your own slice of paradise. Just minutes to the surf where you can drive right up sink a chair, grab a book, and watch the water roll over your feet as all your stress rolls right away. The home has a boat launch and dock if you bring your own boat we are just minutes from Knotts Island, NC across the sound.

Fairly run down and dirty. Mold, broken furniture and so many bugs!
The house layout was great with kids having the bedrooms separate from the main living area. The beach is an easy 5-10 minute drive and the views from the balcony are pretty. Unfortunately the rest was a bit disappointing. There was water leaking from a ceiling heat register in the family room, mold in the ceiling, dirty windows, to get linens for the 5 beds is an extra fee, many of the chairs meant for lounging outside were broken and unsafe for our kids. I think the worst part was the bugs (both inside and out). Most of our party left with 100+ bug bites.
I'm sorry that you found your stay a bit disappointing, to address your issues condensation can form on the registers when the doors are left open or lots of people are coming and going and its hotter than Hades out side with humility at 100 percent as it was labor day weekend . If you check your paper work we did not charge a dime for your linens, yes most places do charge but we gave you a courtesy on all your towels, sheets, and beach towels and only asked that be laundered which they were not. Some of the furniture outside is in need of replacement but there is seven new chairs that we added this year and i left the other chairs there as extras since other families have found them useful and not unsafe. I will remove them to avoid any incidents. Our home is located on a waterfront point facing a national wildlife refuge which is why the wild horses, deer, otters, and other wildlife are so abundant in the area but unfortunately with nature comes flying insects depending on the direction of the wind. When i left the house on Saturday the day you arrived there were no bugs in the home and the house was clean inside and out , but after four families move in groceries and unpack you can expect some flying insects could come inside. I just hope that future renters reading these reviews read all the reviews and find that almost all the families that have shared our home with have found it to be a sanctuary with so much to offer.
Great location, comfortable house.
Horses visited most days.
Great view of storms and sunsets.
Gorgeous location off the grid to relax and connect with nature.
Our family had a wonderful vacation at Salty Kisses. We loved the gorgeous corner lot with amazing views, stunning sunsets and starry skies to die for. The house was comfy and had every single thing we needed from cookware and coffee to beach chairs (nice ones), corn hole and kayaks. The house was clean and the rooms nicely done with comfortable bed linens, fresh towels and comforts of home. We all slept great! The outside decks and screened in porch areas were fabulous with great furnishings for dining, sunning, catching sunset and stargazing. I especially love the hammock to relax and read in the shade. We got to experience the beach fun and the sound too which gave us tons to do. Loved how private the property is and the space for the dog to run around. Fishing off the bulkhead was fun. The horses came to visit almost daily which was great. We saw osprey, great Blue Herrin and Crane.
We were fortunate to have a perfect week of weather. The rainy weeks prior had left the road leading back to the house very muddy and there were large deep puddles. Large 4x4 vehicle was an absolute must to access. It's a bumpy ride to and from the beach so know that going in.
We loved kayaking in the sound and also in the ocean where we came within feet of dolphin. Also love the space to spread out on the beach. So great to pull the trucks up with all our stuff, set up and hang. The beach is gorgeous, sand is pristine and the water was clear and clean.
Dora and Reid were great in communicating with us before and while we were there. They really have a lovely home and provided so much that we were so pleasantly surprised about.
Thank you so much for the awesome review, I'm sorry you were unfortunate to have come after historic flooding so the road were unusually bumpy and still flooded in most areas. We have had guests come in Subaru's and Honda pilots before but this would not have been the week for that. I hope you will come again and enjoy Carova as much as we do:)
Outstanding family get away property
Exceptional get away with amazing views of the marsh and bay.
This was by far one of my favorite vacations. Our hosts (Reid & Dora) were absolutely amazing. We had quite the storm one night, and one of the air conditioners stopped working on the top floor. With out hesitation, they showed up with a temporary one and d-humidifier. I mean, they really care about their guests experience.
Things we got to do within a 2 mile radius: Fishing right into the canal from the house. Went to the beach. Experience the wild horses right on the property (they came every day for us). Kayaking. Fire Pit. Off Roading on the beach to find more wild horses.
Things we got to do when we went into town (Duck): Rented a pontoon boat for 4 hours. Experienced Duck Donuts and the town of Duck (which was fantastic). Dora and Reid recommended Uncle Ike's Sandbar & Grill and it was absolutely amazing. The Chicken and waffles stuffed with bacon was to die for!
so glad you had a great time :)
Enjoyed it immensely. Only issue I could mention is that better spray for ants etc on yard would have been great. We say out there a lot but got a bit eaten up. Beautiful, relaxing vacation. Was wonderful to detach and just enjoy. House was incredibly well stocked for kitchen and linens. Views were great. Kayaks were big fun. Loved it!!!
sorry you had pesky pests, If you look back over prior reviews this isn't normally an issue we do treat the yard regularly we even spray for mosquitoes if they are being a problem, but sometimes if there is a lot of rain immediately following treatment it could have been less effective hopefully next visit you wont have so many uninvited guests :)
