Space 800 sq. ft.
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 3 - 5 nights

About the property

Larger than it looks. Brimming with charisma & walking distance to all the fun!

This bright space is 800 s.f. of the Caribbean charm hidden away in the heart of the Marigny--which puts it pretty much close to everything. The bustling, up-and-coming St Claude Avenue is one and a half blocks away. The Avenue is alive with funky dive bars, art galleries, junk and thrift shops, and even theatres. Coffee shops are all around! And eateries of all kinds seem to pop up over night.

The entire rest of the Crescent City is easily at hand. We are 10 walkable blocks from the French Quarter.

Mardi Gras? The Season begins just 3 blocks from here with the irreverent Krewe de Vieux and ends in the same spot with the Ste. Anne Walking Parade--where EVERYONE is in the Krewe and the bar is set sky high for costuming!

Jazz Fest? French Quarter Fest? Chaz Fest? Oyster Fest? VooDoo Fest? It seems that we have parades, 2nd lines and festivals one after the other in close formation. Or maybe you’re here for a convention. There are oodles of them here every year. The CBD is just minutes away by cab or Uber.

Restaurants abound. From funky/trendy to 4 star: running the gamut from run-down-your-arm juicy poboys, thick gumbos and firey crawfish boils to the finest dining at Commanders and Bayona: from Baccanal at the far-end-elbow of the Bywater to Maurapas or The Three Muses on Frenchman Street. But even in this lush landscape, it’s sometimes just right to eat at “home”. You’ll have a spacious, fully equipped kitchen here to rustle up a home-made meal. With the Food Co-op just a block away, you can conveniently “make groceries” for whatever inspires you.

We’ll have information on all the above including plantations and swamp tours and everything in between available when you arrive.

You’ll just enter through the green security gate with coded entry, walk down the lighted drive to find your "home-away-from-home" with a deck in the back corner of our good-sized back yard. The entire colorful house is yours. With 800 cozy square feet, you’ll have one bedroom and one bath with a large kitchen/eating area, living room, front porch plus a deck for morning coffee or that last cocktail before you call it a day. This out-of-sight hideaway can be just the reprieve you need from the abundant action of the Crescent City.

Parking is on the street and rarely an issue. If you don’t feel like walking (which is a great choice), bicycles can be rented in several places nearby (a great way to get around the city). Buses are found on St Claude and

Lyft or Uber are only an app away. We are thrilled that the new North Rampart street car line is only 5 blocks away and it will get you all over town for a song.

The large back yard is shared with us. We live on site in the historic front house. We have a workshop across the space from you and we have two dogs who will keep us company. They do not come into the cottage and they are never outside without us. Chances are that you will meet them! If you’re not a “dog person” another spot would probably be a better fit for you. The entire outside area is well kept and, depending on the time of year, filled with foliage and greenery.

A laundry shed is located behind our house and we are happy to share it with you.

Smoking on the deck and the covered patio is acceptable.

Your hosts are two sisters. Stephanie has an extensive and creative background in antiques and furniture refinishing while Marna has been busy for years rehabbing as much of the historic architecture in New Orleans as she can manage. While we’ll give you your space and privacy, we ARE on hand with hopefully helpful information--or help--if needed.

This cottage has the best of both worlds. It is close to all the action New Orleans is famous for. Yet it's location will provide you with that needed respite we all need when the day is done.

Three wonderful weeks!

  • 5 of 5

We just spent 3 wonderful weeks staying here. The unit is very well equipped and spacious with a very comfortable bed. It is in a quiet residential location yet close enough to walk easily to Frenchmen St and, a bit further, to the French Quarter. The neighbourhood nearby is great. We especially liked The Franklin Restaurant and the Faubourg wine shop.

We enjoyed sitting outside for breakfast every morning. Marna and Stephanie are delightful company and the dogs, Beaux and Liza, are very friendly. We felt that we were leaving good friends when the sad time came to say goodbye. Thanks, Marna and Stephanie, for making our stay so enjoyable and we hope to return very soon.

Owner's Response: With your 3 week stay, we came to think of you as neighbors and friends! Even Beaux and Liza wonder where you went. Thanks for the wonderful things you had to say about your stay, our sweet place, and the neighborhood that is so full of rich and colorful places to discover. You can be sure that we'll be looking forward to your return!

Would rate 5 stars if hot water flowed a bit faster, but there is a note posted in the bathroom!

This property is perfect for two. Charming, comfortable and rather eclectically, yet quaintly appointed. Huge fully equipped kitchen and functional dining area for those times when you want a break from eating out---which should be the exception rather the norm when in New Orleans! Marna and Stephanie are the quintessential gracious and authentic property hostesses---New Orleans style! The property is securely tucked away and within a power walk distance of The French Quarter. A quiet nightly respite from full days of anything and everything that is New Orleans. Located in the heart of a distinctive neighborhood community that is part of the essence of this culturally, racially diverse and enigmatic historic, great American city. When you are in the cottage, you don't want to leave---but the duty of being lucky enough to spend any time in New Orleans calls daily...and so you heed...with the warm feeling of knowing that when each day of your stay experience in The Big Easy is over until the next, you arrive "home away from home"---with a porch light on---home---to a good night's sleep in a very comfortable bed. Full of memories of the day and anticipation of the next, we could not help but marvel at how fortunate and grateful we are to have found this place and make the acquaintance of our hostesses. We would definitely return to this accommodation, so until then we hope that all who stay here between now and then have the same wonderful experience and appreciation!

Owner's Response: This is a beautifully written review! It is a thorough and interesting read....both about the Cottage, our neighborhood, the magical city of New Orleans and even Stephanie and me! We can't thank you enough. PS: and about the slow hot water--you are so right. It's the price we pay for living in old, historic property. We must be patient in our bath as well. Your words are on the money--from first to last.

Quiet and hidden, yet close to everything!

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at the cottage! Marna and Stephanie were awesome hosts, and even shared their sweet dog Beaux with us, because we missed ours so badly! The cottage was in a great location, away from all the noise and craziness, but a short walk from all the happening areas. Highly recommended if you're planning a trip to NOLA!

Lovely Stay

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed celebrating our second anniversary here! The guesthouse is tucked back from the street and overlooks a pretty, private green space where stables were located long ago. It was the perfect home base in New Orleans in a wonderful neighborhood, with nice hosts, and a cute dog! Easy to walk anywhere and lots of great dining very nearby like the St. Roch market. The guesthouse is plenty big and the kitchen is very spacious.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for this great review!! It's lovely that you noted the green area you get to see from the cottage--great for early morning coffee. And, you know, I don't anyone has mentioned the history of the mule stables--it's a story that gets into the rich old tale of not just our home--but the neighborhood as a whole. And, the kitchen--it IS a bonus. Thanks again for your kind words!

Best place ever!

  • 5 of 5

Me and my wife were here for 1 week to visit New Orleans. We have been traveling alot and I can say that this is the best vacationhome I stayed in, ever! Nice neighborhood to be in. Marna, Stephanie and Bo (the dog) were the best hosts. They made our stay perfect! Highly recommended.

It is also not far from the french quarter. You can catch the streetcar for 3$ for a day. Or a cab for about 10 to 12$ for a ride. All of this made it perfect and you dont need a car to get around town.

Owner's Response: You two were our first guests ever from Sweden. We are SO happy that you picked our Cottage for your visit to New Orleans!!!! We couldn't have been luckier. It was such a treat to talk about your country and your home while you were seeing ours for the first time. We would do it again any time. Thanks so much for your kind words. And Bo says to tell you "hello"--you really know how to pet a dog!
