This house was built to entertain a lot of guests without feeling cramped. It has two master bedrooms in the front with private bathrooms containing granite counter tops and showers. These bedrooms have private fire places and ocean views. They open into a large gathering room with a 25 foot brick dome ceiling, family room and kitchen that looks out on the ocean. There is a large lower covered patio area and an upper tanning deck. The four back bedrooms open up on another brick domed family room. Each of these bedrooms have room access to the bathrooms that are between the two bedrooms rooms located on both sides of the family area. They are large bathrooms with dual sinks granite counter tops and granite showers. The house has travertine floors with a 5 star resort look. Like many beach front homes in Mexico the house incorporates solar technology. It is powered by the sun and a large battery bank. The water is trucked in to fill a large water tank under the garage. It is totally self contained and a backup generator is provided. The house solar which allows us to offer an affordable rate to our guest. We try to limit the number of occupants to 12 because of water and electrical management. We ask that you have a conservative approach when it comes to water and electrical consumption. The Sea of Cortez is not about the house. It is about the enjoying the breath taking beauty of the beach.
It was built for family and friends to get away and have fun. The house is equipped with bocce sets, horse shoes, bean toss, kayaks, paddle boards, fishing equipment, beach chairs, beach lounge chairs. In town there is scuba diving tours, cocktail cruises, deep sea fishing, sports bars, restaurants, shopping and other adventures. This is not San Diego but the Paradise described in many Jimmy Buffet songs. The beach is like a peaceful Corona commercial setting. If you need the San Diego 5 star meal and feel Mayan Palace is 2 miles from the house.
If you are into sailing and know what your doing we have land sailors, kite surfing, wind surfing and sunfish sail boats. All this can be discussed to enhance your stay. Come experience something new in an environment you will never forget.
The house was designed by a Mexican Architect who had built many beach homes in the region. We built the home as a family retreat. We have entertained Church groups, high school groups, relatives and many friends and neighbors over the years.
We love the people in the region and the beautiful blue Sea of Cortez. The 25 foot brick dome ceiling and private beach makes the place great for relaxing and all beach and water sports.
The beach is one of the best in Rocky Point but this house definitely needs some work.
We were told the day before we arrived that there was an issue with the house inverter but it would be fixed the day after we arrived. I don't believe it was ever fixed. On arrival, we quickly found out the issues we would experience. We would have to run the generator most of the time, or the following would not work:
- Normal water pressure above just a dribble
- Fridge to operate at a normal temperature
- Hot water (really didn't work even with the generator running)
In addition the grill only worked marginally. It took almost 2 hours to grill chicken on the first night.
Hopefully these issues can be fixed as it really is a nice beach.
Been to Rocky Point many other times, but never with a private beach. Owner was available 24/7, and house location was the best. House fit 14 guest easily, and on Saturday, the massage people came by, which we took advantage of, and a guy walking beach selling blankets, and other souvenirs. Highly recommend for anyone wanting privacy and safe place to stay. Unbelievable
This house was perfect for housing 10 people for a remote beach getaway. I would echo some of the other sentiments that the summer months can be rough with no AC--mornings are great but the house really heats up in the afternoon and holds a lot of that warmth through the night. It doesn't make the stay impossible but we tried to keep the house opened up as much as possible. The only problems with that were that several of the screen doors and window screens were out of their housings and were in rough shape so we had to resort to propping them up and not completely covering those openings. That inevitably meant dealing with a lot of bugs but hey, what's a nature retreat without some wildlife?
Our main problem came in the form of a refrigerator that was not functioning. It was a good thing we did not meal plan as we would not have been able to store things very long. We resorted to daily trips into town for supplies and storing food in the coolers we brought so we made it work, but if you are looking to hunker down for several days make sure to confirm the fridge is back in working order. One of the maintenance men came by during our stay to replace some of the batteries in the garage so we mentioned to him that the fridge was causing problems which he confirmed, but was unable to do anything about. He did message the owner to let him know so we left it at that.
Overall we enjoyed our stay which is why I still say four stars. The house definitely has the feel of an old family vacation spot turned rental, judging by the age of some of the beach/ocean toys and wear and tear on the doors and windows. With a few updates I think it could easily be a five star property because the layout of the house is great and the location is top notch.
We were a large group and each and everyone of us agree, this is the place to be. The owner's instructions and directions guided us to truly "The Nicest Beach in Penasco". We enjoyed our time as we canoed, cooked, collected shells, walked the beach and slept on comfortable beds. We were blessed with perfect weather and so we spent most of our time outside enjoying the sun, sand and surf. Wished we could have stayed longer, much longer.
Great house, very much as described. Well equipped, big, clean and comfy. Beach is beautiful, not rocky, lots of shells. Very quiet.
But DO NOT go in the summer - there is no AC in the house! We stayed there in August 2015 and it was MISERABLE. John did help by getting us floor fans for every room but when the temps are 100 during the day and 80+ at night, it's just too hot without AC. With the floor fans running all night we did run out of battery powered electric and had to switch the generator on, in the middle of the night.
That said, we liked the house and beach enough to return for 5 days in March 2016. PERFECT with no AC. We were three families and each couple had a bedroom and one room each for the kids of each family. We plan to return, but not during May-Sept. :)
Water pressure is lacking but that's understandable given that water is stored onsite. We had no issues with electricity when we stayed in March (all solar powered to batteries.)
It's at least 20min drive into town from here.
We rented this house in July. Overall the house was amazing except no air conditioning and we weren't prepared for how miserable this time of year was. Unfortunately we did run out of power and we didn't cook a lot there but running the fans probably did it. Our fridge wasn't working right and the owner immediately had that corrected he is great to work with. We would love to rent this home again just at a different time of year. The beach is absolutely the best in Rocky Point we checked out many different beaches and hands down nothing compares. We found endless seashells some sand dollars and one morning the tide was out and there were starfish everywhere. We even saw some Dolphins.
