About Liz Murphy

Born and brought up in England, we relocated from Hertfordshire, as a family of 4, to Montclair NJ in 2005 for my husband's work. My husband works in HR and I am designer and illustrator. At the time our sons were 12 and 9 years old. As ex-pats we very much wanted to find a vacation home of our own. We were looking for a place that would allow us to spend quality time as a family and experience a slice of American culture to it's fullest. We originally started our hunt in the Berkshires but after staying with friends in Lake Naomi, we fell in love with the community and all it had to offer and what's more, it is only an hour and a half drive from our home.

Liz Murphy purchased this house in 2008

Why Liz Murphy chose Lake Naomi

As soon as we walked into this house (despite it's 1980's decor) and saw the amazing view from the back deck we were sold. The stream runs directly towards the deck and feels as if it is flowing straight into the house.

The location of the home is unique. When this house was originally built there were no restrictions of the proximity of the property to the water and hence we are right on the stream. Our two boys have spent countless joyful hours building forts, fishing and playing on rafts right on our door step. Listening to the sound of the water, spotting the wild life that comes to visit us and watching the changing seasons, the stream never gets old!

The other huge bonus is that the location of the house in relation to the lake, the pool, tennis etc could not be better. As short walk to the end of the road there is a huge outdoor pool with slide, a volley court and countless more activities to keep the kids entertained.

Realizing how much we loved being in the house, we decided modernize in 2010. We wanted to maximize on the view, create an extra space to watch TV and allow for more guests to stay. As a designer, I was able to bring our mid century/contemporary European style to the 1980's architecture. A style that is definitely not typical for this area.

What makes this house unique

The location in relation to the stream, the pool and the lake.

Recently renovated with a modern interior design style. We have WFi, cable and new appliances.

The rear property in not over looked, giving total privacy to sunbath on the large deck.

Guestbook comments from the owner

I have never been so excited to write a review because if any home and homeowner deserve it, it's this! First of all, the homeowner, Liz Murphy, was an absolute delight and made me feel SO comfortable with the whole process. This was my first time booking a home for a group of friends and I was extremely nervous about it but Liz made me feel at ease and walked me through the whole process. She is so kind and really really made me want to have this home. We had a small hick-up and the stove at the home did not work, Liz did everything she could, since it was a Saturday night and she was not able to reach anyone to come help us she had a ranger sent over. Although he was not able to help, the fact that she was so concerned and did everything she could really was heartwarming, and when the stove was not able to get fixed she gave us a FULL REFUND on the home!!! We could not believe it! When we walked into the home it was breathtaking. I was really nervous about booking someone's home because I am a clean freak, but this felt cleaner than a high end hotel! Everything is taken care of so well and you can just feel the love and warmth that was put into this home. The group that I went with initially planned on going skiing but we ended up not even leaving the house once because we were so drawn to its comfort and beauty. The huge glass windows and doors are so inviting and really bring the beautiful outdoors in. The river/creek in the backyard was one of my favorite parts, it is truly breathtaking. This experience honestly exceeded all of our expectations and I know we will be back. Thanks so much Liz!

Thank you kindly,

Cobham House

  • 5 of 5

This was the second stay for our family of 4 adults and 1 child at this lovely property. We just love the sound and sight of the stream in back of the house. The interior of the home is beautifully decorated, and all necessities are provided. We got a guest membership to Lake Naomi, but we would have been happy to simply sit on the deck. So relaxing!

Beautiful home

  • 5 of 5

Because of the photos I was expecting a very nice house. Instead it turned out to be a beautiful house. It is full of light and one wall of the living room is composed of glass sliding doors that look out over the gorgeous back yard complete with a deck from which one can see and hear the creek that runs through the land. The house is fully stocked with good quality cookware and a generous supply of spices and such. We hope to stay there again.

What a beauty!

  • 5 of 5

Loved the design of the house. The stream out in the back is gorgeous and super relaxing. We were lucky to go when the weather was warm so we all just relaxed outside on the bench, listening to the stream. I loved the inside of the house with its open concept - it made everything seem so spacious. The owner was absolutely accommodating and easily reachable through email. I would give more than 5 stars for service if I could! I had contacted the owner about wanting to stay a bit later on the day I was supposed to leave and she offered us to stay the extra night if we wanted. Unfortunately, work got in the way and we couldn't take the gracious offer, but just hearing the offer made me super thankful.

Perfect for our family ski trip with the kids

  • 5 of 5

I cannot say enough positive things about this beautiful place! We recently rented it for a long weekend for our first family ski trip with friends. We had 4 children with us (all under 5) and this was perfect. The kids had plenty space to run around, separate TV room to relax after a long day of skiing, the stairs are carpeted which was great for the little ones, the bunk beds were a hit. The place is very clean, spacious, filled with daylight and with a great view of the brook. Location was perfect for access to Camelback Ski Resort, shopping at WallMart for supplies as well as local family restaurants. Our host Liz is wonderful and extremely helpful if you need anything. I recommend this place to anyone looking for a relaxing cozy weekend away from the city, we will 100% return here for our next ski trip.

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to write this review. So glad you all enjoy your weekend.. I may be selling the house at some point this year. Nothing definite yet. Until that happens, I will look forward to hearing from you for your next ski trip. best liz

Lovely home with very pretty view

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in this house for 4 nights over the Christmas break, and had a lovely time. The main living area is stylish and comfortable, with picture windows facing the creek with little falls, much closer than I expected. When snow fell on the second morning the view was even prettier. There were separate sitting areas for TV and a games console outside the kids' bedroom, and plenty of board games and electronic entertainment.

The owner was easy and pleasant to deal with, and made us feel very welcome.

We didn't really explore the neighborhood or club, but went instead to Camelback Mountain on two of our days for half day lessons for the kids / us to have a snowboard - but note that their lack of organization and potential traffic on the seemingly short drive there can mess with your plans!

I would definitely recommend this house for a year round getaway, for one or two small families.

A home not a house.

  • 5 of 5

A cozy, exquisitely designed house that has many details which make it a warm and inviting home. The rear wall is completely glass which showcases perfectly the picturesque stream behind the house. It is a perfect rental for a family or several couples. Plus Liz the proprietress is a pleasure to deal with. I highly recommend it.
