A week in Kona

  • 5 of 5

As usual we had a great time in Kona. Dot and Dean do a great job in keeping the house very clean and having all the right stuff available like a wagon in the garage and beach toys and chairs. We love Kona and this house is like our home away from home, we had our son, his wife and our two grandsons, plenty of room for all...thanks for the the Aloha!!

Beautiful Home With Beautiful Pool

  • 4 of 5

The house was huge, pictures were accurate. The beds were luxuriously comfortable, with several pillows! The bathrooms had skylights so it was great showering with the sun shining in. Things were dated, such as the carpet and sofa. The house shows its age. The pool was absolutely stunning and huge! It was heated nicely, so we used it several times every day. There was lots of nice patio furniture, including 4 loungers. There were lots of pool toys but most of them had holes and couldn't hold air, so we ended up buying our own. There was a foot pump there to help us blow them up. The house has a huge walk around deck which was lovely, and I learned not to walk through the house if I was wet at all from the pool after slipping on the floor and bruising my knee. After that, I walked around the deck to the front door. There was everything we needed, from beach supplies (chairs, mats, umbrellas, coolers, etc) to every cooking utensil we needed. Cons: There were little bugs all over the kitchen counter. We kept it wiped down 100% of the time but any drop of food and they were all over it, and they loved crawling on the booze bottles. We also had an issue with cockroaches. I was told that there would be none in the house, yet we found several. The one night, we killed about 10. I called the owners and they arranged for the exterminator to spray, but unfortunately it was on the day we left. We saw several outside at night on the deck, so that kept us inside more nights than we would've liked. One morning I woke to a dead one just outside the bedroom door. I understand this is the tropics, and coming from Canada we are not used to that but I think they can be controlled a little better than they were. There were several cans of spray but I don't think that really kept them away. Also, the house really needs air conditioning! Although they provide fans for each bedroom, the living area gets incredibly hot in the day and in the evenings, it could be very uncomfortable at times. About the area, we didn't really do anything in the area. We spent a lot of time driving north to go to the great beaches, and we spent a lot of time further up on Ali'i Drive. Not sure I would stay in this area again. Having the garage was great! The wifi and cable were also great! The master had a patio door, but there was a huge tear in the screen so we were afraid to keep it open. The place was VERY nice, but needs upgrades and better pest control.

Amazing home, In a beautiful setting

  • 5 of 5

My family and I had a great time. Great home in a beautiful setting. The house owners were very accommodating and were easy to get a hold of. The location of the house is great; only being 1 block away from Keahou-Bay. O

Plenty of amenities are included with your stay including beach supplies, fishing equipment and even bicycles. Would recommend to anyone. We will be back! :)

Home living on vacation is the best!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great experience at this home. Our group consisted of three couples; we all had private bedrooms and one shared bath which suited us well. Having all rooms on one level was perfect. We appreciated the nice kitchen and washer/dryer, as well as the grill since we ate many meals here. Since swimming beaches are hard to find we loved the wonderful pool (swam early morning and late at night). Delightful bird sounds woke us each day. Loved the shy little geckos too! There was no air conditioning, but the nights were cool and we slept well. Dot and Dean were very responsive to our needs.

Perfect; couldn't be a better home for the price

  • 5 of 5

Don't want to write a lot of good things because it will generate less dates available for my family to choose; but OH well here goes:

Perfect; fantastic; no better money spent; owners are very responsive when needed. Pool is just fabulous. Would recommend this home to anyone, any age, up to 3 bedrooms full!

We will return!! Bob

Nice location, too many rules, too much work

  • 2 of 5

The house was nice and location was nice. However after paying a big cleaning charge, we still were to take the trash out, clean up everything including washing the dishes and laundry, clean the refrigerator etc. We were threatened with additional fees if we did not follow these rules. If I wanted to do all that, I should have stayed home. All the rules should have been fully disclosed in the Home Away details before we booked . I would have thought twice about having to do all the work I had already paid for. Typically all the cleaning should be on the part of the property owner as that is what I am paying for... a relaxing time without work.
